Looking good, hopefully the rotor won't turn it into a tailsitter.

It looks like you've managed to get it to sit correctly. Spindly legs are always a bind. (No comment please Martin).

That's a serious amount of modifying, good luck.

With the body cleaned up and the undercarriage fitted, after several attempts to get it to sit correctly. The tail setup was added again some sanding was required as a hump showed where the part joined the top of the fuselage. The wings have miniscule tabs to attach them to the fuselage and the plan/paint guide show slightly different positions for thre trailing edge so I cross referenced with books and photos to arrive at the position they've been attached at. Revell Contacta, Superglue Gel and Plastic Weld were all used in the process. The resulting gaps have being filled. Checking the wings they are 2mm out of true with each other and this is probably due to a mixture of the undercarriage issues and wing root profiles. It doesn't stand out, but I know it's there. At the moment the a/c doesn't tail sit but we'll see once the pulse jets and rudders are attached.

Yes Chris it seems to be going together quite well though Martin P said he had difficulty fitting the trailer wheels so I should take care there.
All the major subassemblies have been near enough comlpleted and those plus all the other parts have been primed with Mr Surfacer 1500 Black Primer. This will be my second attempt at using this as a primer and pre shader. I sprayed outside, as I prefer to, with the weather being good yesterday and the few gaps in the primer only became apparent in the photo!! I've left the cab and bonnet seperate from the chassis as I will be glazing the cab. Fit up to now is good if you take your time.

Another kit started at the last PlayDay. It's the original 1979 release of the Matchbox kit which had a couple of re-releases before the final one by Revell in 2007. Moulded in the usual 3 coloured trees of the period with the rear of the box showing the marking options. The instructions are of the exploded type and are vague at times re placement and which part to use for which model. More on this later. I hope the decals, transfers back then, will have stoodthe test of time.

Plan B. A test fit of the canopy showed it wouldn't fit correctly if I went down the road of filleting so it was 'take the bay apart' and out with the knife and sanding pads. This produced a far better fit and then it was on with filling the nose with Blue Tack and the same plus ball bearings behind the cockpit to hopefully prevent tailsitting. The instructions say 10gms in the nose but I don't think that's anywhere near enough. After that the body was closed up with an elastic band and tape being used to hold it together.

I'm sure there'd be lots of takers!!!!
Another great day with a bit more modelling done this time as well as the usual banter.

With it being a short run kit there was lots of tiding up of parts to do before any work could commence. All the internal partes were primed with Vallejo Bronze Green, also labelled as a primer, before Humbrol RLM 02 was applied to the cockpit parts, with some parts painted Tamiya RLM 66. Parts for the main undercarriage bay were finished in Vallejo Aluminium. Now we get to the interesting/annoying/frustrating part. As the kit is a 'one size fits all' some of the parts are generic, such as the seat. There are two in the kit but they are for the two-seater model and are nothing like the one required for the single seater. Looking around the sprue trees I found a couple of parts that aren't labelled for the single seater so used these to upgrade the seat. Moving on to the main undercarriage well it appears that AZ have taken a leaf out of IBGs book a la 'why use 3 pieces when 5 will do? I say 3 as that's what Revell have used in their build and that all goes together nicely. Consequently despite trying to be careful aligning everything once you try and fit the bay onto the guides in the fuselage it doesn't sit on them correctly. I've managed to line everything up so it's correct for when the fuselage halves are joined at the bottom but the parts are too wide to allow closure at the top despite some sanding. This means I'll have to put a fillet along the spine and the plane will be slightly 'fat bodied'. I could say it's to provide more fuel for the pulse jets which were built whilst waiting for other parts to dry/set.

Sometimes it pays to join the two halves down one side together before joining the two halves of the fuselage on long bodies. But it looks loike you got there in the end, well done.

The decals aren't up to Cartograph standard and needed to be cut as close as possible due to the thick carrier film. It took several attempts to get some of them to lay as they should with a blade needed so the underwing roundels would follow the curves. Like Chris I decided not to fit all the stencils mainly due to the fact they're black on ESDG so aren't really visible. The wing tanks and AIMs have been fitted, with decals for the latter coming from spares as the sheet ones refused to bend and then shattered!! The canopy parts are held in place with Glue and Glaze. The white seal around the main part is missing as I can't find the pen I use for such, doh!!!! A new pitot has been fashioned from Evergreen strip and the last small items have been fitted.
The biggest fault with this kit is that the top four intake doors are moulded closed whereas they fall open due to gravity once the engine is switched off only closing on powering up. To rectify this would have taken mega work as the plastic is so thick on the intakes plus life's too short and there's lots more kits to build. I managed to take the photos outside today in what would probably have been the same conditions as the Falklands? (Apart from the greenhouse in the background!!!)

You know how they say to cut brass tubing without it crushing by rolling it under a blade/saw well.............
Great work there.
