The first two photos are of the box art and kit contents.
Reviews say it should conatin injection moulded railings- I cannot find any.

What a strange scale 1:131, maybe that's how it fitted the box.
Saw this in Croppers and just had to have my fix of plastic - is it the feel the smell or what?
Please note that no brass was harmed in the building of this kit.
The railings are stretched sprue.

Modelling Projects / Italeri 1/35U-Boot Biber
« on: April 14, 2013, 09:19:22 AM »
Having attended the Sword and Lance Model Show and having the model on display, here are the build details.

I decided that if I was to enter something into the maritime competition I had better try to build something.
The Biber was a one man submarime and was developed during the final stages of the second World War.
It was produced after the capture of Welman W-46 in Norway. The first prototype was developed in just 6 weeks. The sub was not very successful and suffered from many problems.

The first photograph shows the kit contents.

The parts look crisp and well moulded. The whole box and kit is nicely presented.

Channel 4 did a program called Salvage Squad and in one of the programmes they did renovate a Biber from the Submarine Museum, this was designated 105 and it is this particular sub that I will be building. 105 was recoverd with a dead operator on board – Carbon monoxide poisoning being the cause.
I can see from the kit instructions that the interior is only partially detailed; I will add one or two extra details, but will only include items that can be seen with the hatch open. A seat and basic dashboard are provided, this has an etched brass front, I will add switches and valves for blowing the tanks. I also added an extra gauge or two.

The ejector pin marks on the inside of the conning tower were removed and the area filled and sanded. The interior was painted white.
The panel was sprayed black and the controls and dials added and painted.
Construction went much as the instructions stated.

Modelling Projects / Etched madness!!!!!
« on: March 26, 2013, 03:10:44 PM »
My latest project seems to involve large amounts of bending and sticking etched brass - not one of my favourite occupations.
Anyway, I did find that the etched brass did stick a lot better after a clean with a fibre glass pencil.
The project is something along the maritime theme- you will just have to wait and see.

Modelling Projects / 1/16 Miniart German Knight XV Century
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:06:56 AM »
Just completed this kit. I have had it for a while but never got round to building it.
Fit of parts is a bit hit and miss, a lot of fiddling and filling is requiired to get it looking something like.

General Discussion / The ups and downs of attending shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:11:18 AM »
 :-\
Well, you see lots of nice modes, you can buy almost anything to do with modelling, you are with like minded people  (well you hope you are?), you may get fired up for your next project and so on.
I attended the Huddersfield Model Show with the club and had a great day, stoppedd for a meal on the way hope, great banter and so on.
No down sides then?
Well one or two, you may get damaged by a felllow modeller, you may not get on with some of the people, your models may suffer a little in transit.
Well most of these things did not affect me, then I got home and dropped a box on the way up stairs, the photographs will show you the rest, yes, it was the 1/48 Airfix landrovers and so on. B - - - - - !

General Discussion / A Blast from the past

 8)
i came across these photos whist searching for some plans for Gerry.
These must be from an early visit to North Shields.
Cyril was into Tanks, Kevin into Chipmunks and I was building helicopters, the guy many of you will not know is Malcolm, he built Polish aircraft, buses and cars in 1/32 scale.
Hope you find this slightly interesting.
Cheers

« on: November 08, 2012, 08:01:11 AM »
Just posted some pictures of this on the blog as I cannot seem to upload onto the forum.
The kit is clean well presented and so far the fit of parts is excellent.
I have built and painted the engine so far, you will see how small it is, 21 parts.
