Title: 15 inch shell
Post by: Roger on June 28, 2016, 02:18:47 PM
I have often wondered why there was a large shell beside the road in Middleton (near Pickering).  Recently in Kirby Misperton I found it's twin together with an explanation.
The shells fitted the main armament on Queen Elizabeth class battleships, and if you want to see what one of them looked like, I'm sure Haddock could oblige!
Hope this is of interest to someone!!!

Interesting indeed.  I'm very surprised we haven't had an "MSea Production" at a club meeting on this already so well done on beating him to the post with this, erm, post!

Hi Roger,
Yes, I've often wondered about the 'Shell', and its origins, now it becomes a bit clearer thanks to you.
Isn't it strange what fantastic artefacts and stories lie within a small radius of each of our own locations.
Great Stuff, thanks Roger.
