Just started this. Having done a little research I can't find any photos of this beast. One photo I did find had different floats so this may have been a special Polish version ( I base that on the fact that the kit is Polish ). The chin radar and all the other fuselage additions appear to be authentic.
Mouldings are not bad - I think it is quite an old kit - don't when I bought it.
Cockpit interior minimal and added some detail.
-
Looks nice and different.

Different is good - will follow with interest.
-
Have you tried looking on Scalemates? They have timelines for lots of kits. As the floats are a lighter pastic it appears the kit may have been released in various guises? Should be an interesting build.
-
Good suggestion Chris H,
I have used it to try and find out what is a re-box or new moulding or new parts.
Chris42 have a look you might also find some builds on the website of this helicopter or wal arounds.
Cheers,

Hi Kevin - thanks for the tip. Not been able to find any walkrounds of choppers wth floats. I can find plenty of phtos of the original mi-4; I also have one of the WWP modeler's books. You are right Chris the floats being a separate sprue in a different shade of grey, look as if the original kit did not have them. I'll take a look at Scalemates.
-
Interesting stuff.
-
Having looked at Scalemates it looks as if the kit was modified from another in 1995. Still can't find actual photos.
-
The nose was a struggle to fit. As you can see a bit of filler required and some clean up to do.

I'm sure you will do it proud.
Looks very good so far.

It will be as smooth as a baby’s bottom when you’ve finished.

Here are a couple of dimensions for you Kevin.
The Mi-4 rotor dia. 68ft and length 82ft
The Chickasaw rotor dia. 53ft and length 42ft.
So quite a bit larger.
-
That's a lot bigger. It must have been dam impressive.
-
On one of our next meetings I'll bring both models so you can compare.
-
You know what Andy will say Chris - " mine is bigger than yours" - hohohhohohoh

Typical squaddie.
-
More progree on the model. Floats assembled and mounted.
-
I like the look of that.
-
That looks good, for a helicopter, that is!
-
Completed. A bit of filling was required but overall not bad. The green is a Tamiya (XF13) paint and the blue a Mr Hobby(67).
I had to buy some additional decals as I don't remember whether they were in the kit or I'd lost them.
The figure is just for scale.

Looks good. Judging by the figure, the thing must have been enormous!

The Russian's are as bad as the American's.
They both like to show theirs are bigger and better, and more impressive.
Very nice model though....
