A question of scale?
« on: February 21, 2015, 10:07:34 AM »
Look at the photo below.
The two outer figures are sold as 1/32nd scale, the inner one as 1/35 scale.
What a difference there seems to be.
So, is one very big, is one very small or is it a case of both?
1/32 is 9.53 mm = 1 ft.
1/35 is 8.67 = 1 ft.
This makes the 1/32 over 5 f.t when seated - seems a bit big.
the 1/35 is 4 foot when seated.
I measure about 4 ft.3 in. when seated.
Draw your own conclusions.

Now then. If we take an average person of 1,80m height then in 1:32 he would be 56,42mm tall. In 1:35 he would be 51,42 mm tall. That of course is overall height. With a sitting person we have to take proportion into account. When one considers that a human has a height of 8 times the distance from top of head to chin, and that the half way mark is the hip joints being 4 heads from the floor then we can calculate the rest.
In 1:32 a head height is 7.03mm so from hips to top of head is 28,12mm.
In 1:35 a head height is 6.4mm so from hips to top of head is 25,6mm.
Here we se that the seated height difference between 1:35 and 1:32 is a mere 2,53mm (or just under 1/8 Inch in old money)
I recon that your figures exceed these paramenetrs and one of them is not to scale. But you will have to measure that.

Hope this helps.

Average is a mathematical mean so surely it should be "the average height of a person"?

I meant that the person is average, just like you by the sounds of it. His height is definately 1,80m though. ;D
