Bought this at Telford and have been busy working on it.
I have finished it as though it had been restored to original condition.
I have added plug leads, petrol pipe and other wires as required.
A nice little model.

General Discussion / Failures and Frustrations
« on: October 07, 2016, 10:18:29 AM »
I don't know about you but I have times when I find it really difficult to settle down to modelling.
Nothing seems to go right and I lose bits on the floor, the paint won't stick, the masking tape pulls the paint off or the paint bleeds under it.
Well for the past two weeks this has been the case, the more I try the more frustrated I get.
This is a failure and I could not get a decent finish.
I post here as a warning to all.
This is a Revell Dodge Viper, I found it really hard to build and am really not satisfied with the end result.

I knew that I should not have built the 52 Chevy.
I am now working on this kit.
It was driven By Timo Makinen, so it is left hand drive, not right as the original.

Very nice it is too - well so far.
I have been undercoating and painting all the bits, its quite time consuming.
Here is the underneath.
Here are the seats with seat belts and etched brass bits.

Painting in progress.

General Discussion / Model kits for birthdays and Christmas
« on: September 20, 2016, 03:20:53 PM »
My family seem to think that they know what I want to build, they buy me presents for anniversaries and so on.
I can understand the Chevy -bit of a joke, its the same age as he is and so on.................. .

I happened to be in Australia visiting my son and his family, we took the kids to an Air Museum just outside Perth.
I waxed lyrical about a particular aircraft - yes - guess what, it was a kit for Christmas.
You would think that I would learn.
I once mentioned Wallace and Grommit, Dr Who and Shaun the Sheep. Lots of presents to build there. Yes I built them all and then gave them away.

Well I now have the 1/72 Airfix Catalina to build. Joy.

General Discussion / Klear
« on: September 16, 2016, 10:42:42 AM »
I have been trying to sort out files on my computer and came across this.
It may be of interest to you.
I must have written it way back in time.

Klear

Made by Johnson, called Future in USA, it may be going out of production soon.
It is described as an acrylic polymer that contains phosphates, polycarboxylates and other substances.
Many uses other besides that as a floor cleaner – modelling, covering scratches in cd’s apparently. Also for cement/concrete mixing and in nappies, water softening.
Can be removed by using a solution of dilute ammonia (they mean a dilute solution of ammonium hydroxide).

Polycarboxylates are high molecular weight (they mean mass) polymers that now have replaced polyphosphates. It does biodegrade but this depends on the polymer size and it is non toxic to aquatic organisms, unlike phospates.
They also have a low toxicity generally.
As the molecular mass decreases the solubility increases.

Described as an Anionic polymer with a carbon chain backbone that contains carboxyl groups (COOH), sometimes as the sodium salt. It is usually a co-polymer, this means that it is made up of two different molecules that are joined together in long chains, there is little mention of linkage between the chains, but there probably will be as the COOH groups may hydrogen bond, but as I have forgotten most organic chemistry I cannot be sure. It would seem that some of the sodium ones have super cross linking and so will be particularly tough.
The usual co-polymers are

1.   acrylic acid (prop-2-enoic acid) and maleic anhydride
2.   acrylic acid and methacrylic acid (Perspex is polymethylmethacrylate)

It may also be a homo-polymer of acrylic acid (3)

So 1 would be a never ending chain of
-(CH2-CHCOOH)x-(COONa-COONa)y-
2   -(CH2-COONa)x-(CH2-CHCOOH(Na))y -
3   -(CH2-CHCOOH(Na))x-

I bought this from Veteranus Models in Ripon.
I also bought the Swiss Guard at our show.
Here are pictures of the instructions, artwork and parts.
The kit contains 28 parts that seem to be nicely moulded on first inspection.

General Discussion / Model Shops
« on: August 31, 2016, 07:22:58 AM »
These now seem to be fewer and further between them.
I have just visited the model shop in Ripon, Veteranus models.
https://veteranus.co.uk/
Excellent shop, well stocked with some unusual kits, I did pick up one or two, and of course the Badger primer.
Well worth a visit.

General Discussion / Trip to Doncaster Aeroventure Museum.
« on: July 28, 2016, 12:37:32 PM »
Many thanks to Steve and Neil for organising the trip. The fish and chips were excellent.
10 club members looked around the museum and were duly impressed. Some even spent some hard earned cash on models.
It is a great pity that the museum is not better sign posted from the M18.
I am sure some photos will follow.
Here is the website http://www.southyorkshireaircraftmuseum.org.uk/

General Discussion / Duped again!
« on: September 15, 2015, 01:15:12 PM »
As it is raining I started another car kit, it says Revell on the box and in the instructions but guess what - stamped under a piece of plastic in small letters - HELLER. A little bit naughty really.
You may see it on here later.
