Still working on the WW2 Soviet house and it is at the stage with lots of painting of small figures so started the next model.
As you can see from the box it is the battleship HMS Prince of Wales - but not as you know it.
The model was in a sale and I think it was not just the £3.99 sale price but was also half price to get rid of it.
Now for the model will it be HMS Prince of Wales as she was with the Bismark - NO - it will be one of the class taken out of lay-up after the war and converted into an aircraft carrier with large scale armament ( yes Kiteman its all out of my head and other dark and strange places ). So the hull is now fastened together before making it a waterline model. She will then be given a transom stern and an enlarged hull shape from the mid to back sections. It will then have an angled flight deck with a ski-jump but retaining the ford 4 x 14inch gun.
-
Oh, No..........
The Genie has escaped the bottle again..................................!
Different, Msea this one for sure. Are those mushrooms on sale in Walkington again............?
Angled deck, 4 x 14in Guns, does it submerge also??

Not at the moment but thanks for the idea !!!!!!!!!
-
The hull cut down to waterline and some balsa added to bulk out the aft end. When this is dry it will be sanded down smooth and a skin of plastic added - then the fun begins.
-
Still waiting for the balsa to dry - so drilled out the portholes and added some brass doors to the main accomodation block
-
Working on the funnel guard and adding a thin plastic surface to the hull.
Next job is to sort out the exact size of the flight deck, get it fitted and then add the underneath supports.
-
Interesting stuff, you don't do anything easy do you?
-
You scare me sometimes!
-
Plastic deck added with cut out's for the small guns and enclosed sections for the ships boats.
A start made on the ski-jump from brass and plastic sides.
-
Excellent stuff Martin, you could join the steampunk navy.
-
Thank you Admiral Zak, sign me up.
-
Excellent stuff Martin, you could join the steampunk navy.
Don't encourage him!!
-
Very Martinesque!
-
Very Martinesque!
Could even be Martinique.
-
Just a test trying to get new comp working
-
Martinized!!
-
Martinized!!
I like Martinized. I expect Zak will say to "Martinize in a dark and strange way" is what I do to models.
-
Could one say that a model has been "Martinied"?
-
Back to work on some models.
I like the name plate that comes with the Prince of Wales model so have removed the name and cleaned up the space, then some 3mm letters to make the new name.
-
Very steam punkish!
-
Very steam punkish!
More revolutionary than punkish I think..I expect the sailors would have nicknamed her "King Killer"
Jacky Fisher always wanted to name one of the WW1 battleships "Oliver Cromwell" and was surprised the King would never pass this as a name-- I wonder why ????
-
Neat!
-
All very intriguing, seeing as I've visited Moseley Old Hall where King Charles II hid from Oliver Cromwell's men just this week.
Can see ships of the realm wouldn't be destined to be Oliver Cromwell................
Cheers,
Bigkev

As well 4 x 14inch guns and 6 x 51/2inch guns she has 8 "Sea Pig" missiles.
They are just bits of plastic from the scrap box with brass a top and brass bar missiles ( before somebody asks the missile part is 10mm long) Why are they "Sea Pig" missiles -- well if pigs could fly came to mind.
The last photo is the name plate now it has some colour on it.
-
Ingenious as awlays.
-
Well back to a bit of plastic after show hall plan number 12,749.
The missiles now have a radar dome fitted and also they are PINK -- well it is a "Sea Pig" missile so what colour should they be ???? Before anybody starts on at me --it's my model and its for fun and if you have seen a "Sea Pig" missile and it was a different colour then I MIGHT change it but I don't think so.
-
Do it your way .......good on ya!
-
Just to keep you on your toes --what will they be ?????
A clue they will be 24.8mm long when finished in 1/570 scale
-
Another two photos to help you decide what they are ?????
-
Hi Msea,
Are they going to be 'Sea Pigs' as opposed to Sea Harriers.........?
Also will they be painted in high altitude pink, to match the sky as the sun sets...........
Cheers,
Bigkev

Well done that man
Not sure about the pink it might clash with the missiles ?
A couple of shots of them under construction -- the last one is the lift that I nearly forgot to add to the deck -- just saved another oooooppps
-
Boats and missiles fitted.
Yellow stripe down deck done and green stripes either side just painted.
-
Hi Msea,
Think I'm close to your wavelength on this project, somebody help me!!
Instead of 'Pink' what about a nice 'Violet' shade. It certainly will help in the colour stakes on this model.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Some rails added to the ship --- not a glue run in sight.
-
Just goes to show that choosing your desired photo shot is essential.
Nice work from whatever angle...............
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
I am always fascinated by your creativity.
-
He is one in a Million!
Luckily, because we only know of Msea, collectively we can try to contain his wild creativity.......
Hopefully,
Bigkev

I have always liked David Griffiths model "We a' gang doon the watter tae see the splendid cat" with the people on the paddle steamer going to see HMS Tiger in 1914. So have decided to steal the idea ( I hope he takes it as a compliment ) and add a paddle steamer to this model.
Having used the Hull ferry to cross the Humber in my youth - shall make it the Tattershall Castle. The ship is 64m length and 17m beam so that should if my maths is correct be a model of 112mm length and 39mm beam. first card cut out for the shape made - now to decide how to make it ??????
-
Is this the one that is moored at Hartlepool or am I completely mistaken?
-
Hi Zak the Tattershall Castle is in London first as an art gallery and then as a restaurant. The one in Hartlepool is the Wingfield Castle.
-

Thank you.
-
A start made on the lower hull - the extension parts on the midships area are for the paddle wheel and covering.
Now should I just plate over the side with thin acrylic or fill in the sections between the ribs with filler and then plate over -- decisions decisions decisions!!!!
-
...once more into the breach with MSea!!!
-
This is actually inspiring me to attempt a build of SS Lulworth Hill (see my "wish list post elsewhere on the forum). I shall contact William Hamilton & Co (if they still exist) and try to find some plans.
-
Have put some filler in between the ribs of the Tattershall Castle.
So while waiting for that to dry looked at the original info for the Prince of Wales and saw she had aircraft in a gantry, so dug out the box of bits and found that she has 2 in the box - wings folded and extended. Only problem they are made to fit onto the gantry so have made some legs to get them standing on the deck.
-
Aircraft on legs!!! Now that had to come from you didn`t it. Could we call them bipedial biplanes??? Nice one.
-
Hi Kiteman,
I actually think they are representative of Blackburn Sharks by the look of them. I'm not sure though if the 'Prince of Wales' (original ship) actually carried them??
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Hi Kev - I think it is supposed to be a "walrus" - the Prince of Wales carried 4 of them.
But from the quality they could be anything- and that's before I start work on them.
-
Hi Msea,
Your almost 100% right they 'should' be Walrus's, but I can tell you for sure that they are not anything remotely like a Walrus. These are not pusher aircraft, but tractor engine, large cylinder cowling, square winged, unequal span, definitely not Walrusesque.
According to Owen Thetford's British Naval Aircraft since 1918, the Walrus WAS operated by the 'Prince of Wales', however the Blackburn Shark (Floatplane version) was operated by Renown, Repulse, and Warspite type of Warships, but Prince of Wales is not mentioned.
I think some Msea intervention is required.................
Gosh, cannot believe I said that. What will come next???
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
I have decided that they will be "stringbags".
Even thou the last was in 1945 - when the "Olivar Cromwell" was reconstructed in the early 1950 the navy is so short of money (the RAF has taken it all again) that they have to reactivate some of the old stringbags for torpedo work - on top of all that I LIKE STRINGBAGS - and its my model of a what if so I can do as I please.
-
Just got your post as I posted my last one - I agree with you on all aspects.
BUT I LIKE STRINGBAGS so that is what they will be - if it can have "pink sea pig" missiles it can have any plane I like as well.
Now what colour shall I make them ???????????????
-
I'm waiting to see what colour the water is going to be!
-
I think that to understand MSea and his colour schemes one needs to smoke some illegal substance!
-
I'm waiting to see what colour the water is going to be!
Now then Wizzel -- its the Tattershall Castle taking people to see the ship on the Humber -- so the only colour for the water is MUD BROWN.
But thinking about it how about a nice yellow or violet to match the missiles. Thinking about it a bit more, if I did the sea that colour Haddock would kill me.
-
If you painted the sea in any colour not naturally attributed to it..............................
You could be making a case for a hit man job?
Be cautious,
Bigkev

Thank you Kev I will consider your very wise remarks.
Some work on the aircraft.
-
They are very...............sweet!
Look forward to seeing them on the deck, ready to leap into action.
Well, the Sea-Pigs probably, the 'Stringbag' look a likes probably more like me in the morning creaking, but inside raring to go....................well, sometimes!
Bigkev
-
This is all very worrying, MSea doing very small aircraft - well I think that is what they are.
Will wonders never cease?
-
Some more work done on the Tattershall Castle.
-
I was waiting for Kiteman to suggest "let's make the water turn black".
Whatever colour it ends up being, this is far and beyond any madness you have achieved to date MSea!
-

Thank you for your kind words - I do TRY and keep on the correct side of madness - but not sure which side that is.
Some more work done adding the ford deck to the Tattershall Castle. Next job to add a little more filler on the parts shown up by the primer. Then its onto the bridge, funnel, lifeboats and rails.
-
Some colour and rails added to the Tattershall Castle.
-
Coming on nicely is that.
-
Where did you get the railings from MSea? Are they spares from another kit, generic from (eg) White Ensign or scratch built?
-

Hi Wizzel they are a generic set from White Ensign.
The first photo shows the section under the bridge - scratch built from bits of spare acrylic. The last 2 show the bridge being made from a bit of spare brass.
-
Thanks MSea. I may be in the business of wanting some soon...!
Lovely work from you as always. A combination of a keen eye, steady hand and an active imagination.
-
Bridge and area finished -- next a bit of primer then on with the painting.
Before anybody points out the bridge windows on the Tattershall Castle should be square, if you wish to take the drilled holes and file them all out square and the same size -- you must be on a skill level with Haddock - and that's about 80% improved on me. So they will stay round.
-

Cropper does stock some generic railing, not sure of quality, will have a look today when I an in there.
-
...and all from scraps of this and that, amazing. Almost a bridge too far!!! ;D
-
Groan!
-
...and all from scraps of this and that, amazing. Almost a bridge too far!!! ;D
I will cross that when I get to it !!!!
-
Some work done on the funnel and mast with stays. I have traveled on the Tattershall Castle lots of times as a child but don't remember the funnel like this. Its a good job we have photos to correct our imperfect minds.
AND BEFORE the rivet counters start on at me this model is based on the Tattershall Castle not an exact replica - its mine so I can do as I wish !!!!!!!!
-
....and so you should. Bravo MSea!
-
British Rail logo added to funnel from tape.
Before you ask Wizzel it was Model Technics TrimLine coach tape from Croppers, a while ago and I don't remember the price.
-
Hi Msea,
Was that called the British Railway logo, or was it the 'Intercity' logo?
Cheers,
Bigkev
-

Not sure but I thought (its that word again) that the sign was for all of British Rail and the intercity had different colours and the words Inter City as well as the logo.
BUT I AM SURE SOMEBODY ON ONE OF THE FORUMS WILL TELL ME I AM WRONG - AT GREAT LENGTH.
I am just going on what images I have found.
-
Might even have been SeaLink?
-
BUT I AM SURE SOMEBODY ON ONE OF THE FORUMS WILL TELL ME I AM WRONG - AT GREAT LENGTH.
If they haven't got the message that "you ain't bovvered" by now, you're doing summat seriously wrong. "Correct" or not it's nice work either way.
-
The colour is correct for british rail but there is a slight anomaly in the vertical stripes but I am not brave enough to point it out and get both barrels or some other retribution from msea!!!
Bridlufc

He'll have a presentation about this at the next meeting I shouldn't wonder!

You are all WRONG the presentation will be about how "happy I am" with the improved level of responses on the site !!!!!!!!!
-
...and so say all of us!
-
Back to the scrap box to make (I think it is part of the fuel/heating/water system) behind the bridge and also a shot of the funnel and bridge added to the ship - the hole in the ford deck is for the mast ( just looking what colour it should be ) with a deck house between the mast and bridge.
-
Hi Msea,
A work of art in the making!
Bigkev
-
...or is it the art of work in the making ;D
-
None of the above its just having FUN
-
FUN? Mmmm, yes, I remember that. I had some once...
-
Fun, no idea, never mind just get back to what you know best, Grumpy in my case.
Bah Humbug.
-
Could we all be suffering from Chairaphobia??
A fear of 'Fun'?
Not us on here, we all like some fun, jibes and comments from other members. Just remember when you see them at the next club meeting not to leave bruising, from throttling and beating visible........ and then no one will know............Simples!!!!
Bigkev
-
Chairaphobia!....there´s no fun in that!
-
Especially if you have nothing to sit on !!!!
-
Some for work done on the Tattershall Castle - first 2 show the guard over the paddle wheels without colour in the holes and then filled in.
Some rigging on the mast and the water/heating/fuel thing behind the bridge.
Now another question for you to answer - seeing as the boat is only BASED on the Tattershall Castle what shall I call her ?????
-
Will there be a British Rail pork pie in attendance anywhere?
Haddock.
-
Howzabout the Tatty Paddler!
-
Howzabout the Tatty Paddler!
I like it -- it also links to the Soviet House and the spuds in the garden.
Haddock I think I will now have a pork pie floating in the water around the ship at anchor - thanks for the extra job-- ho ho ho
-
Some more work done on the Tatty Paddler.
Now to put some more work in on the King Killer.
-

Don't think a British rail pork pie would float. I seem to remember that the crust was made from a low grade cast iron and the meat was a mixture of sawdust and dead hedgehogs!!
Haddock.
-
I remember the taste and texture so well - thanks Haddock for bringing that thought back - am now off to be sick !!!!!!
-
And the tea, now that was something else!!
I always thought I was tough but a cup of tea and a "growler" was a test of manhood.
Haddock.
-
Putting the food (if you can call it that) aside -- back to working on the King Killer.
The mast has some radar fitted and the lifeboats painted.
-
Decide that she needed more planes on deck so have made a helicopter.
It would be 17.54m long and 3.96m high with 3 rotor blades at 14.63m diameter - so what is it ????????
-
Its a Dragonfly of course!
Bigkev
-
Well done that man - BUT will my dragonfly look like the original ??????
-
I can answer that as well.............................
'NO'!!!
Probably be some Psychedelic paint job to match those magic mushrooms Joyce cooks with!!
Bigkev
-
It`ll probably have legs and arms and all sorts knowing MSea ;D
-
Main and tail rotor fitted - now what colour shall I paint it ????????????????????
-
First bit of paint on the dragonfly but not happy with the rotor colour -- so shall repaint them.
Also a start made on the sea around the ship, next job is to mix up a good brown for the sea and more definition of the sea around the bows.
-
A little more work done on the dragonfly and a couple of tugs to tow them around the deck.
-
Splendid!
-
King Killer and Tatty fitted to base and mud colour on the sea.
Might change the brown colour a bit, it was OK then put a brown wash over it and not sure about that. Have run out of 1/700 scale figures to put on the Tatty and Killer, will fit them when i get some more.
Base surround made just needs cleaning up and some black paint and its finished.
-
Spiffin'.
-
What will the over fertile imagination produce next I wonder?
-
I know and you will find out in the future -- "be afraid be very afraid" -- HoHoHo
-
A splendid job young man. Shows what can be done with a little imagination. Well done and thanks.
-
It looked good in the flesh, so to speak.
-
Hi Msea,
A neat project from the master of zany idea's................
I going into my slit trench now to hide for fear of reprisal..............
Bigkev
-
Hi Msea,
I going into my slit trench now to hide for fear of reprisal..............
Bigkev
You don't have to worry Kevin -- all the time will be taken up with fixing the mast.
Taking it out of the car boot for the club meeting the mast touched the boot lid and damaged the set up. The top cross mast had been soldered and it just bent, the tripod assembly had been super glued and has come to bits totally.
AHHHH WELL -- its only a hobby and its for FUN so no problems
-
Know just how you feel, commiserations.
Haddock.
