Been busy today with the airbrush. Very pleased with the result so far. I may change my mind when the euphoria of lacquer fumes wears off. We shall see.

Unfortunately we cannot see your photo, obviously the fumes.
-
I know, now sorted.
-
looks a bit like a Citroen ?
-
Got it in one Dave.
-
Hi Francis,
Is there a New Zealand connection by any chance??
Bigkev
-
Of course there is Kev. It's going to be a replica of the first Citroen I had during my student years in New Zealand. I'm in the process of converting it from left hand to right hand drive and DS spec to that of an ID19. At least that's the plan.
-
I love the way your models relate to aspects of your life.
-
While there is a personal link for some of my models it is equally true there are many that I just find fascinating either because of their technological and or historical significance, Q.E.D. a current fascination with Herr Heinkel's jets. I do have some themes that alternate and endure such as New Zealand aviation, the 2nd New Zealand Army in Italy and the Targa Florio.
-
Looks like it'll be agood finish on the Citoen.
-
How many coats is that Francis ????
-
One white micro filler primer coat allowed to dry for two days then nibbed off with a lint free cotton cloth. Colour was applied as a mist coat followed fairly quickly with a wet coat. End of story.
-
Nice to know.
-
Thanks for the info Francis
-
Converted to a very crude ID19 spec. Left hand drive moved to right hand side, seats modified to bench configuration with arm rests added. That in simple terms is the chassis and interior sorted.
-
Looks good so far.
-
One of the best looking cars ever.
very nice paint job.
Andy.
-
I had an uncle who was a designer on these car.
Bob c
-
That must have been an exciting project for your uncle Bob.
After a serious effort at the workbench today I'm declaring this one finished.
-
Did you ever tell us the make of kit and the scale?
-
Oops, sorry chaps.
Details; Heller 1:43 Citroen DS 19, kit number 80162 purchased in the mid 1990s. Modified from the left hand drive DS French version in the kit to a right hand drive Slough built ID 19 specification. Finished predominantly with Tamiya paints.
-
Thanks Francis, a nice paint job.
1/43 - O gauge then in model railway terms. 7mm - 1 ft.
-
Excellently finished Francis. You'll be catching up with Dave soon.
-
Stunning finish.
Andy.
-
Great work Francis,
Love the paint job.
Bigkev
-
All that nibbing did it proud
-
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement chaps.
It's been cold and wet outside, great modelling weather me thinks so lets have another shiny one. End of day one chassis, engine and drive train sort.
-
Some sort of Audi Francis?
Bigkev

I saw the logo on the engine too.
R8 Spyder?
Nothing wrong with my eyes!
-
Sherlock Smith has got it. This is the Revell R8 Spyder. An enjoyable build so far.

But what scale is it?
-
Come on Sherlock, you must be able to deduce the scale given your ability.
Bigkev
-
Hi, I will have a go at 1/24th
Watson

Hi, I will have a go at 1/24th
Watson
That's what I thought too.
-
And you're both right, it's 1:24 scale. Body primed this morning so there'll be no action on this one for a couple of days.
-
Looking good whatever the scale.
-
Any personal connection with this one?
-
Any personal connection with this one?
I know, I know....!!!
Its the one he goes shopping in.......maybe?
Bigkev
-
Nothing personal with this one, just like the look and sound of the real thing plus I got it dead cheap at the last Bolton show.
-
Aaaah, Martin will be pleased.
You may be a Kiwi, but you have good indications you could make an honorary Yorkshireman.
Tight fisted, and up for a bargain!
Bigkev
-
Now then Kev steady on, honorary Yorkshireman, really!
Todays work on the R8 has been addressing the cabin, particularly the seats and seat belts. The colour on the seats needs blending in but that's for tomorrow after the oils have begun to gel a bit.
-
Starting to look good Francis.
The seats look the part, even before they have had that extra touch.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Spot on.
Andy.
-
Looks like good leather.
-
Colour coat applied to the body.
-
A very nice looking Citroen.
Bob c
-
Looking very nice.
-
A little more progress today with a test fit of the cabin plus some detail painting of the engine deck grills and windscreen frame.
-
It's going to be a beaut!
-
Coming along nicely.
-
Engine deck grills unmasked and polished. Passenger cabin glued in place and ready for the fraught process of fitting to the chassis.
-
Good luck with body to chassis, often difficult even with dry runs I find.
-
Good luck Francis.
Grow an extra pair of hands and you'll be fine.......
Bigkev
-
Body and chassis united with no ill effects. Just the lights, mirrors and other ancillaries to fit and that'll be it.
-
That is looking really nice.
-
Looks ready to drive away
-
Don't forget, as it's an Audi you don't need to fit the indicators!!!
-
Don't forget, as it's an Audi you don't need to fit the indicators!!!
Same goes for BMW owners, they too don't use indicators.
Is it a 'German' thing?
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
No Kevin its not a German thing - its the size of your bank balance, the larger it is, the more you think oiks like me should know what you are going to do and should just get out of the way of the superior driver.
Sorry to any BMW driver that is a normal sensible driver but the rest know who they are.

Sadly Msea, they won't.
If they cannot operate an indicator control, then they won't be able to use a computer....!!

Model's looking really good.
-
Yet another great model!
-
A study in white. Finishing line in sight now.
-
Looks like a showroom brochure, great job.
-
that looks really nice.
Bob c
-
Excellent model.
-
Flawless, well done that man.
-
This ones been on the go for neigh on twenty years and I thought it's about time to add the final details and call it done. With wing mirrors, aerial, screen washer plumbing and a little added sand trap grit I'm declaring it finished.
The kit is the Hasegawa 1:24 Porsche 962 built out of the box.
-
As it's near Christmas, can I say..........
It looks 'Bootiful'......
Excellent Francis, well worth the wait to see it in its final glory.
Bigkev
-
Well at least its not a turkey Kevin - the model is great Francis
-
Twenty years -wow!
-
Twenty years -wow!
So he started it when you were only 749 years old Zak - hohohohho

I am not going to sink to your level.
But Watch Out!
-
Twenty years -wow!
As a lock down nonsense enquiry I wonder what's the longest time it's taken to complete a model?
-
Do the wings and engines from the 1960s remade into my recent Me 369 count? If not I've a Me 323 Gigant @10 years old and a Vulcan about the same age to finish.
-
An excellent model Francis.

My output is very slow due to work and domestic interruptions and I think in the ten years I've been in the club, I'm still in single figures. I tend to get so far and then get either bored, scared or distracted by some other model so it goes away in the box for quite some time resulting in most of my models being part finished. I've just completed my Lavochkin diorama which has was made from a kit I finished then accidentally smashed 5 years ago. Is there a World record I wonder?
The finishes on these cars are beautiful, really looking forward to seeing them on the table Francis.
-
They are all stunning ,Francis
-
Another one being rescued from the department of high inertia. This one is the truly appalling Airfix Porsche 906 that was abandoned fairly quickly after the box was opened some years ago.
Intakes and vents have been opened, reprofiled and moved. Wheel arch extensions have been added and the Kamm tail reprofiled to improve the accuracy of the body. Colour coats have been sprayed this morning so the body will be moved to the boiler room to cure.
The next task is to try and make sense of/build what Airfix euphuistically claim is the suspension.
-
Looking good Francis. A bit of work on this one.
-
A glutton for punishment obviously.
-
Despite thinking self abuse is better than no abuse at all I do feel there are limits and this model is getting close to that mark. Anyway after making a series of jigs and numerous addition parts I give you a couple of rough photos of one very crude chassis. Fortunately not a lot of it will be seen when/if the model gets finished.
-
It will look the part when its finished I am sure.
-
I'm not sure I share your confidence in this one Dave.
-

Hi Francis,
Having seen your car models before, I am certain that this model will be far improved from the original when first issued.
I look forward to seeing more 'Francis Magic' in this build.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
So far so good.
-
Treat it as a learning curve, that's where I'm at at the moment, lol!!!
-
Painting and decaling declared finished. Just the 'glass' bits to sort out before final assembly.
-
Looking really excellent. The decals set off the finished body.
-
I agree
-
Hi Francis,
An excellent finish with the paint and decals.
Cannot wait to see the finished item.
Cheers,
Bigkev
PS. Loved the latest piece in SAM about the 'Kiwi' jet pilot, who flew Me-262's at end of WWII. Excellent stuff!
-
Looks great, as usual!
-
another excellent finish.
Bob c
-
Great finish Francis
-
Declared this one finished today. Airfix 32 scale Porsche Carrera 906 finished as the Scuderia Brescia Corse car 31 entered in the 1971 Targa Florio and driven by Franco Berruto and Angelo Mola. They started 35th and finished 35th overall after more than six hours racing in the Madonie mountains on a 72 km road circuit which goes from sea level to 1100 metres.
This has not been a model I've enjoyed and the kit is recommended as suitable for plastic recycling.
-
Whatever you may think of the kit,
it sure looks good when finished.
Haddock.
-
Thanks Tony.
-
Excellent.
-
Hi Francis,
A superb job, might not have been a great kit to build, but it really looks stupendous.
Cheers,
Kev
-
Thanks guys. I've had enough of small rough kits for a while. Seriously looking through my 12th scale car and bike kits for the next build.
-
Beautiful looking car, beautiful model. Well done.
-
I also think you've made a great job of it, well done.
-
Whatever you may think of the kit,
it sure looks good when finished.
Haddock.
It sure does!
-
Another great looking model.
-
Another shiny one declared finished today.
-
Nice to see it in the flesh at the last meeting.
-
Thanks Zak. It was still a work in progress at the last meeting albeit only needing a few small details and spare wheel adding which I have done today.
-
It still looked good even with small bits missing Francis
-
Very nice Francis. The paint work is exquisite!
-
Thanks gents. Chris much credit for the paint job is down to the quality of Tamiya paints.
