General Discussion / Re: Barry Ketley R.I.P.

A very fine send off for Barry yesterday.  I shall miss those drives to club meetings with him sat next to me in the car, always ready to share his knowledge, experience and advice about not only modelling but life in general.

Thanks to those who attended, I know it was appreciated by his Wife and Son.

My, that's a big one!  Good work Kev.  The thing with trucks is that I would not be tempted to weather it but produce it to "Truck Show" standard, so would leave myself no room for error in the finish.  I think I may avoid such things for the time being anyway.

General Discussion / AMPHIBIANS?

Now then.  I hope you all managed to escape the floods and weather last night?  Radio Humberside made chilling listening; Andy Comfort's drive time was extended and Sports Talk cancelled so we could be kept updated.  On arriving home at Victoria Dock after the shift, Andy got there just before the surge hit so was able to give us a live update and it was scary to hear - the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds sprung to mind!

Anyone else think the South African Government engineered Nelson Mandella's passing to ensure the flooding of "a north east coastal town" was kept off the news?

Stay dry.

I have been having a mooch about recently but it seems we're stuck with scratch-building.  Kiteman is constructing a 1/48 spitfire diorama (see Dec newsletter) and has got a few bits from craft shops in Germland, but on the whole it's hard to find even stuff like paper brickwork cladding.

Aha!  Finally remembered to log on so thought I'd just let you know I did so!  What a busy November meeting it was - I could hardly get next to myself, never mind get to the table to photograph the models and pick an entry for the competition!  It will be interesting to see how the venue develops - it seems a shame to have a "splinter group" in a different room.

Jolly good.

I always use "blackened, twisted and blistered metal" paint for the interior of my Spitfires.

Kevin,  newsletter sent on 26 Jul.  Just checked the email I sent it to and it matches the address on a mail that I received from you.  I will send again to just you.  Can you confirm that you get it (or not).  It is now 1 minute to midnight on Sat 29 July.  Ta

On Monday and Tuesday I rang round all those I have numbers for that don't have email addresses.  Those with email addresses have been informed in the Newsletter email.  Everyone has been accounted for then, unless they're not on the contact list.

Correct.  A grand night out.  I think we may need to take that counter down and knock through into the other room if this continues!

Now then.  Nice to hear from you at last Terry - and if I can echo the senitments of the others, whatever you need to know, just ask.  As you now know, we're all a friendly bunch of geezers and are more than happy to share hints, tips and experiences.

In our many conversations, we both know your models are coming on in leaps and bounds so be brave and post some pictures of them on here along with some accompanying text.  I'll do the same so we can both share the humiliation... ;D

Nice to have you aboard anyway and we look forward to your active participation in the webite.

St George's Day is the traditional day for picking dandelions for wine - not this years though  >:( and you can't get them in Boyes either!  I have just transferred 40 pints of dark ale to a keg for secondary fermentation.  It will be ready in about 3 weeks.  Tonight I started a vat of cider off.  That will be ready in a month or so.  By then, I should have enough rhubarb for this year's rhubarb wine.  Jolly good.

I am spoiled in that in Hull there are 3 Boyes' stores and also one in Beverley.  I've also noticed the variation in stock but like Tony pointed out, they are willing and sharp off the mark to provide stuff.  A service that's missing in a lot of places nowadays.

Tony, we have a massive patch of wild honeysuckle on the fields here.  If you fancy turning a gallon of that into wine this year, let me know and I'll get you some.

« on: April 24, 2013, 09:53:17 AM »
Hi all.  I just wanted to check with whoever it is (can't remember) about the themes for the quarlterly competition.  Will these be chosen at the next meeting - Mon 6 May?
