Picked these up at Monks Bar in York, 4 sets of 4 figures.
Decided to change some of the swords to axes and maces ( not the spray can of mace before somebody tells me they did not have this in 1066), will change the shields on half the figures to make them English and leave the others with the kite type shields.
-
Enough figures for the committee and others then?
-
Yes Chris will throw in a couple of club members as well - hohohoho
-
I'll tell of the Battle of Hastings
as 'appened in days long gone by.
When Duke William became King of England
An' 'Arold got shot in the eye.
-
Where did you drag that up from Dave?
-
Where did you drag that up from Dave?
Don't know but please put it back - hohohoho
-
Where did you drag that up from Dave?
Its a monologue that I learnt for a performance in a Gang Show many years ago.
Stanley Holloway I think did it originally.
-
Was that in a gang show or on a chain gang ????????
-
Back to some modelling - some changes made to the figures, so I can have Normans and Anglo Saxons from the same figure so they can have a fight.
Will put a paper ring round the edge of the shield for the reinforcing metal strip, should make it easier to paint. Then a more earthy colour for the Anglo Saxon clothing and slightly richer colours for the Normans - that's the plan at the moment.
-
So Zak, can we expect a full rendition of 'We're riding along on the Crest of a Wave' at the next meeting?

Not this time, I won't be at the meeting.
-
Looking forward to this!!!
(Not to say that I dont look forward to it all.)
-
A good start with the figures Martin.
-
Put this in the wrong place under Romans - brain turning to mush again
While waiting for Zaks ditty, some ideas for the shields.
Top row the disc cut from thin aluminium, and a hole cut in some paper/card. Middle row paper fastened to disc and bottom row paper cut at the edges of the disc.
Works OK but will have to make a lot to be able to choose the best, and will also try and think of another way to do it. Might try and fasten a bit of solder around the disc edge and see how that goes - suppose I could just paint a ring on the risc edge but would be best if it has a slightly 3D effect
-
Don't rush -- I can hear Haddock saying it now.
Decided the best way with the shields was to use a slightly thicker green paper and LET IT DRY before cutting it, was then able to use the circle cutter and this has given (well to me at least) a better and more accurate finish
-
Some more work done on the shields
-
Decided that I did not need all the figures in the battle - so what has my warped and twisted mind come up for the last 4 ????? Lookat the photo and I will give you time to make a guess , then put you out of your misery - hohohohho
Talking about my warped and twisted mind - Chris will be happy, sorting out my room to get it done with new furniture ( might take some time as IKEA is having problems with supply ) found my figures from the shopping mall - so will get them finished and more rubbish to finally get that model done.
-
Tea and biscuits anyone?
-
You might have time for tea and biscuits Chris but I have been adding the basic block colour to some of the figures - hohohoh
-
Hi Msea,
Looking good so far...........
If tea and biscuits are on offer, can I ask for 'Digestives'.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
You will have to ask Chris - its his suggestion for tea and biscuits - I have eaten all mine so sorry about that - hohohho

Oh, never mind.
I'll settle for a nice bacon butty and some nice banter and abuse.
Bigkev

Lots and lots and lots of that available - would you like to book in for a double dose on Tuesday - hohohhoho

Only a double dose..........??
I think I am being 'short-changed'
Bigkev

Figures dry brushed with oily steel to try and bring out the chain mail effect.
-
Is that you greasing around again?
-
That's what engineers do - hohohho
-
The 4 bits of wood now pinned and glued together and a first coat of plaster on them - now what is it going to be ??????
-
No idea.
-
Me neither, but figures look good!
-
Zack are you going to change the Lion and Albert to the Lion and Alfred then it would be topical?
-
Some base colour on the monument and the 4 large figures and 1 of the small figures primed
-
Hi Msea,
Nice work and inventive.
Is that smaller figure from an Airfix WWII German Personnel, or the Modern NATO set. Had both a remember seeing him 'somewhere'
Bigkev
-
Not sure Kevin think it was the WW2 German will look for the box next time I am looking in the stash
-
More work done on the first lot of soldiers.
-
Monument nearly finished - next job drill and then mount the 4 figures
-
The 4 large scale figures fitted, now to work on the small scale figures.
-
Back to the battle model - some figures who did not make it to the end of the battle.
-
Excellent Martin. I just do not know what goes on in your head!
-

Neither does he!
-
Mystery of the universe!
-
WHAT are you lot trying to say - hohohho
-
WHAT are you lot trying to say - hohohho
Wouldn't you like to know!
-
Keep going Martin.
-
Keep at it Martin,
It will be good, maybe different, but good in the end.
Bigkev
-
Different is good - hohohoho
-
Different is good - hohohoho
MAYBE!
-
Decided that the large figures look much tooooo clean for the monument - so a coat of flory wash and when dry will remove most of it.
Kevin found the box of 1/72 scale figures and you are correct they are Airfix WW2 Luftwaffe Personnel - will do another couple of figures and one of them will be me in a very dull shirt - hohohoho
-
Looking good Martin.

Will this be a shirt, without Yellow, or Physcodelic Pink?
Ho, ho, ho, ho.
No need to get me, I will see you coming.....!
Bigkev
-
Looks really good!
Shields are excellent!
-
Some work on 2 more figures to go with the monument.
-
Figures added to base
-
Looks like you are there!
-
A very good approximation of your shirt Martin. Will you be wearing it at the club meeting next week?
-
Yes and bringing the model - hohohho
-
The hair on you, looks too smooth to me!!
I saw you close up yesterday.....!
However, if you come to the next meeting with your hair 'gel'd', then it'll be just right.
Ho, ho, ho,ho
Bigkev
-
Will you be gelling your hair as well Kevin - hohohohho
-
Christine will be dipping me in the Dripping Pan.
So, I'll be slick, but not as gorgeous as you Martin.
Bigkev
-
Could be an interesting meeting!
-
Now don't get Jealous, Chris.
Martin, will have much more, in intellectual comments as well as looks.
Bigkev
-
Back to the modelling.
The sheet will be fastened to a back board when it has been cut and fastened to the base. Some of the figures have been added, still some more to go, they are undergoing a flory wash at the moment.
-
Stamford Bridge.
Otherwise looking good.
-
Thanks missed that one will change and print off another copy - at least I had not fastened it all down and got it in place - hohoho
