Started a new project today and these are part of the kit.
Any Ideas?
-
They look like something from an Eagle Transporter from Space 1999 but I'll put money on that they're not!!
-
Ball bearing world.

Hi Bill,
I think that it is the Tamiya P-38 Lightning in 1/48.
A favourite aircraft of mine.
House point or not.

Are they just weight for the nose?

I'd make the same suggestion.

Pawnbroker diorama with a foible hoping to raise some cash.

House Points to Kevin! It's the Tamiya white boxed kit of the P38H.
Super kit but you have to follow the instructions carefully as there are quite a lot of alternative parts which need sorting, ie 3 instrument panels!

As I asked earlier, are they just for weight?
-
Yes, just for weight. One in the nose and the other two at the forward end of each nacelle.
-
That's not fair, we could post a photo of a packet of Blue Tack and say what's this for, lol!!!
-
It’s fair because the 3 quite sizeable ball bearings are included in the kit! I haven’t come across any other kit that includes feature. Tamiya have, in the past, provided cast shapes for balance weights.
-
Okay, I'll concede defeat, lol!!!
-
Reached the assembly stage. This shows one of the Ball Bearings in place and the Main Spar which will give correct alignment to the twin booms, an issue with other P38 Lightning kits.
-
Looks a nice kit, I hope you are going to have some nice nose art.

Here we are, so far!
Just about to mask up ready for airbrushing OD top surfaces.
Only issue the windscreen and internal armour fit.
-
Looking good.

Coming along nicely.

What were the problems?
-
The internal windscreen armour is held in place with just 4 small attachment points and with the Gunsight fitted in front!!! of the armoured screen it makes for a tricky fit that has to be well fixed before committing to attaching the screen.
