Yep!
There was an abundance of aircraft models on the table.

What we need is the other members who make other things to participate, and bring their kits along.

A good couple of days was had though!

General Discussion / Yippee!! its Telford Time Again! ScaleModel World 2011
« on: November 10, 2011, 04:26:03 PM »
Hi All,

Just like to say, I'm really looking forward to Telford this weekend 12/13th November.

I shall be travelling with Roger (thanks Roger!), and meeting up with Mike and Adrian on route. The four of us will visit Cosford before heading to SMW to set up friday night, then out for some food and a pint or two.

Looking forward to seeing John and Janice, Bill, and the ever cheerful Neil Robinson, who can be heard before being seen!
Roll on Saturday morning!

I shall take some pictures and post them on the blog, for those who cannot make it. Putting wallet and credit card in fridge now to prevent overheating this weekend!

Hopefully, will see some of you there,

Help / Re: Microsol and microset
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:05:41 AM »
Hi Tony,

Sounds like you could be using too much. I know its tempting to get the surface 'wet' for the decal/transfer to go onto.

Microset is the wetting agent, but it does not mean that the surface has to be soaking wet. I use a largish brush and paint Microset on the area to be transfered/decalled. For me it does not seem to matter if that application has started to dry or has 'run off' before I get to the point of application. I think the chemical process has already begun and has prepared the surface to remove air between the two.

Once you have applied the Microsol which softens and helps the transfer/decal to bed down and it has dried, you should wash off excess of both soloutions prior to varnishing anyway. So the fact you get 'pooling' somewhere shouldn't really matter, other than you are having to remove unecessary amounts.

Hi All,

I agree,  it is such a sad loss to the club that Dave L has decided to end his time with us.
He produced many wonderful kits and he had a 'class' of his own. The club will be hard pressed to find such another wonderful and talented Gent.

I wish him well for the future.

Hi Dave,

looks really good. never thought of you as a 'tankie' . Keep up the good work.
A nice Leopard tank might sit nicely on it?

See you at meeting

Hi All,

Well things have continued at a pace since my last installment.I have now managed to get the wing tips and tailplanes in place. Not too much of a problem here apart from the wing hinges which need a bit of refining to get a smooth fit, and the outer panels which needed a bit of glue and talc treatment on the leading edge points to sharpen them up.

The cockpit canopy is a little short and a bit shallow, so I have added a shim of card (20 thou) to the cockpit sills and coaming. This was then sanded until a smooth transition and matching of the fuselage top was achieved, with canopy.

The kits pitot tube is not very straight and a bit fragile, so I have use a pin to replace it, drilling out a hole to accept it and inserting it into hole and glueing it in position to correct length. I then built up nose with glue and talc and sanded to shapewhen hard. Result, a nice strong and sharp point to kit. Trouble is its like a great big dart, so I'll have to make sure I don't get harpooned!!

At this point all wheels were sanded to shape, undercarriage legs trimmed and seam lines tidied up, engine nozzles and splitter plates tidied up, cockpit instrument panel and seats cleaned up. Undercarriage doors,..... nose okay after much thinning, but main ones will need replacing with new moulded from card items as they are too thick but curved around two edges.

All parts primed in Vallejo Acrylic Grey ready for detail painting.

Pictures attached.
