This is work in progress. This is a Ciro kit which is the Kopro kit with addional resin and brass parts. The helicopter is an ECM variant of the Mil Mi8 flown by the Czech republic. Basic kit needs a bit of work - done a couple of these previously.
-
Looks interesting, when was it flown -- the original not the model ???
What colour scheme will it be in ???
-
Hi Chris,
Another vertical masterpiece.
Have you done a gunship version before?
Watching with interest.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Origally flown in the seventies. Still in use today I believe Martin.
Yes I have done the gunship version Kevin.
I wiil finish the model in a green and grey camoflage with Czech roundels etc.
-
I remember very clearly learning how to identify these things from the NATO Aircraft Recognition guides. Them big Soviet things always fascinated me.
-
Here's a photo of the etched brass parts for the antenna arrays on each side.
I think I could do with some tuition from Tony looking at what I have yet to do.
Chris
-
Looks like a challenge.
-
Yes I think it will be. I thi k this part may be rather slow.
-
Brass is best -- or is it brass makes your head explode, unless your name is Haddock
-
Here are the antenna arrays assembled; next job painting.
-
Looking great Chris - how did the brass go was it easy to bend into shape ????
-
Nice work Chris, don't you just love etched brass?
-
Nice looking stuff.
Haddock.
-
No brass bending on these parts. The separators are resin glued in place. I have a little brass bending to do yet on some steps and the antenna mounting stays. I'm sure they are not upto Tony's standard or complexity.
-
Great skills on show.
Andy.

Now ready for masking. As you can see there has been quite a bit of filling.
-
coming along nicely is that.

Lots of filling, do you buy extra large tubes?

Hi Zak,
Didn't you know, Chris's middle name is 'Milliput'
Is this a coincidence???
Bigkev
-
Thanks chaps. I just have the two tubes but I'm not telli g you how big they are and yes one of them is milliput.
Y the way first coat of primer on - looks a lot better.

Here is the bulk of the painting done. Now ready to do the detail and attach the antennas which requires a bit of bending some brass.
Also a photo of the painted antennas.
-
Looking good enough to fly
-
It can't do at the moment!
Look its not painted, would you want to fly in a 'naked helicopter'
But I do agree, it is coming on very nicely.
I look forward to its progress from Chris.
Cheers,
Bigkev

I think the lack of rotor blades would cause more problems than lack of paint - hohohoho

Aaaah, hadn't thought of that.
Rotor Blades do 'trump' paint finish.

Here it is complete. For those of you with eyesight issues, it has the rotor blades on.
Airbrushed with mr hobby paints and finished with mig matt varnish.
The decals where a pain as they tended to disintegrate hence the numbers on the tail boom are the wrong font.
Attaching the antennas took quite a bit of time and patience after the brass bending - it looks the part anyway.

Hi Chris,
Nice looking model. You should feel very pleased with the final look.

Another excellent helicopter Chris - now how about a zombie - hohohoho
-
Thanks chaps.
