Got this because I needed something with not many parts for a quick build
to test some paints.
So the hull is built and water-lined, I'll probably be chucking away more plastic
than I keep.

I seem to remember some adverse comments regarding underwater vehicles in the past.

A very interesting vessel. I look forward to progress on this one.

Hi Haddock,
Glad to see you have decided to join the 'underwater gang'
You see we are not 'all bad'.
I look forward to seeing this build in the hands of a master.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Will you now be doing a British M1 to M3 sub ????

Don't know what one of them is!!

Some paint sloshed on. H.B. would have you paint the deck dark sea grey, same as the rest of the dark colour.
I thought it would be more realistic to make it look as though the wood deck were covered in a dark stain which became common practice after the outbreak of WW2.
Just some railings and bits and bobs to go on. Don't think I'll use the kit brass, there's no bottom run on the railings so each stanchion will need to be glued individually, bad idea.
Just out of interest, there's a cutaway drawing which explains how it all works. You should be able to blow it up to read the legends.

The M1 was the British equivalent to the Surcouf and had a 12 inch gun, her sister subs converted into a seaplane carrier for the M2 and a minelayer for the M3

An interesting model plus titbits!!
-
A submarine with a seaplane. Looks interesting.

We live and learn, thanks for that.

Thanks Tony, interesting stuff.

This is a really interesting subject. Looking forward to seeing the work in progress.
-
That’s interesting, looks like they couldn’t decide on a ship or submarine so put the two together.

The Japanese had an I-400 class submarine during WWII that could carry 3 seaplanes so that would have been huge.
-
Fascinating stuff, both the model and information!

Always wanted that model in 1/350 but its expensive.
Great stuff.

I agree Andy - always wanted to do it setting off to attack the Panama Canal - but looking at the stash it will have to wait for at least another year, lots and lots and lots to do and at my slow rate of finishing well who knows when.
-
Zombie sub coming soon then?
-
Thanks for the idea Chris - YoHoHo

I think that's it folks, job jobbed.
The aircraft may come at a later date but till the model is mounted on a base
with water around it , there's nowhere for it to go.

Very Nice Haddock,
Look forward to seeing the Surcouf in the 'water' setting.
Another sub on the horizon for the new year?

Looks really nice, it will be good to see it in some water.

Is next year going to be a sub par year?

Is next year going to be a sub par year?
Not really, it was done to test some paints after the pantomime with the corvettes.
Nice to do something with not many parts for a change though, ideal if your modelling
time is limited.

I need to build me a sub...
Well done Mr Haddock

Never Submit to your urges. The re is no Substitute for it though

I read an article this morning about the Americans building 3 submarines in the 1950s to launch winged nuclear missiles, the forerunner of cruise missiles, and how they wanted to take it further and launch jet aircraft from submarines. Now there's an interesting concept.

Looks great. Well done
