What is Biggles up too? Anyway  here's progress today. All flying surfaces fitted and faired in with a gentle sand and polish. Canopy masking done and the airframe ready for priming later this evening.

Very fine work here Kevin plus a useful technique filed away for future work.

Fuselage closed up earlier today and I'm now on with sorting out the wings.

Phenomenal work Dave. Scrolling through this lot has bowled me over and occupied the last couple of hours very pleasantly thank you. I love the airfield maintenance kit used during the war and could be easily tempted to model many of them.

Hi Francis,
Great to have you back posting again.
Can I ask a question?
Were certain instruments on British aircraft outlined in blue, yellow and red just like the Luftwaffe aircraft?
Never seen this highlighted before.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Thanks for the welcome everybody. Now then Kevin, the gauges with the coloured bezels are suffering a bit from modellers licence in that the rings around are not as fine as I like them to be, hence their overly prominent appearance. They are all engine management gauges for temperatures and pressures and their appearance seems to vary from no colour through to my gaudy effort here.

Thanks Dave, I'll endeavour to uphold the high standards of the site. but don't be alarmed if there's the odd slip in standards.

It's 48th scale, my usual scale for building Spitfires. Bit more progress today the starboard side cockpit wall.

Just begun one of the new tool Airfix Spitfire Mk I/Ia/IIa kits. It's all sweetness and light so far with options to build virtually any early Spitfire Mk.

Lovely work Tony. What is the detail that runs around the ship at the top of the hull sides?

1/144 scale, wow, I'm very impressed Kev. A very attractive aeroplane I think. Looking forward to seeing the finished diorama.

Modelling Projects / Re: Major Keith Caldwell

Thanks for the flattery gents.
I should point out the bottom picture is of the full size D6864 replica in Omaka Museum and depicts the moment just before Major Caldwell abandoned it. He survived muddied but relatively unharmed, returning to 74 squadron next day to continue flying.

It is not my completed model, that will be along later, probably much later if past form is followed.

This is the SE5a D6864 Keith Caldwell flew for a time in September 1918 and is another project progressing at my usual glacial rate. Due to the hasty development of the SE5 there were a myriad of significant changes during its initial squadron deployment. It has taken time to research the most likely configuration of D6864. Fortunately the Eduard kit caters for all the major variations once I worked out what was needed. After just on a month I have declared the cockpit area finished as far as I'm prepared to go with it and am now planning out the rigging and painting program before assembling the fuselage, wings and undercarriage.

Thanks Bridlufc I have seen the sheet on both Model Hobbies and Hannants sites. Maybe I'm becoming more Yorkshire than I thought as buying the Xtradecal sheets for one aircraft feels rather extravagant.

There seems to be a myriad collective nouns for moths. Ball, dusting, flame, whisper, flap, shudder, and platoon are all offered by Brewsters. I favour platoon as the most suitable for my developing Tiger Moth collection.

Thanks gents for your responses. I'll cast my net further afield and see what I can find.

Very nice result there Kev. A fine replica of an all great and iconic British aircraft. I look forward to the line up of Lightnings when this theme is completed.
