I must stop watching so many films - have just finished Mad Max Fury Road and have decided to try some car modelling.
Being interested in the way Disney design items, they allways have a FULL back story to base any item on. So have sorted this out, will just need Kevin and Zak to choose an area next meeting.
The cars are poundshop - three for £1 - so could add them to my model for under £20 next meeting for the comp - or is it just one model only ??????
The car has been stripped down and wheel arch extenders added, seat belts and wide wheels made. The strange frame is to allow the car to have extra ground clearance.
I think I need to get out more.
-
Hi Msea,
Different tack for you.
Yes, you do need to get out more...................................or should it be 'should be locked up?'
Wait to see how this turns out, I'm sure it will be your usual interesting and 'Fun' side to modelling.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
I would go for the "locked up"
Have decided to make 2 cars at the same time - both different.
Side air pods made for car 2 and this one has an open top. Both have different screens made for the open front window, first one a bit of garden mesh the second has flat bars.
-
Both cars with a coat of paint .
-
very interesting, I have always been a Mad Max fan, I enjoyed the latest as well evn though the reviews were not that good.
I have always been into the post apocalyptic scene.
Ever read the Amtrak Wars?
A guy at Huddesrfield had built I had always wanted to build some models from this, but the drive was never there.
-
Hi Zak,
Oh very good, didn't have the drive.
You wit, you!
Bigkev
-
Don't worry Kevin , Zak is on the right track.
Better not let Pen-Pusher read this - or we will all be in trouble.
-
Surely this is what the site is for, a bit of banter and an interchange of thoughts, however vague they are!
Post apocalyptic could easily be WW1 and Steam Punk ( or even Diesel Punk) could be the way forward.
My imagination just isn't up to it.
-
As you all know -- my head is full of very strange things -- so we will see how it goes.
BUT before Haddock starts on at me, I am still working on my ship models -- this is just a side track !!!
-
Air inlet made but seems a touch on the large size so have made a smaller one.
Exhaust pipes also added to the back end of the car.
-
Both steering wheels made and fitted.
-
Rear differential made. Large size wheels made from card tube and strips of plastic fror the tread.
-
Back into the £1 shop and I found another box with different cars in - so never refusing a bargain, I now have 6 cars to play with.
Decided to make the truck with extended sides.
-
What size/ scale are these cars?
-
Hi Zak they seem about 1/35
-
This is a photo with a Tamiya 1/35 scale figure. Hope this helps.
-
Not really!
So less than 1/35, but more than..............................
-
I think they are about 1/48 or 1/43 scale approx.
-
Splendid work MSea. Will there be a small diorama to accompany this in time?
-
Well back home again had a great trip to Portsmouth for the "36 Hours - Jutland Exhibition"
Yes Wizzel a small diorama if I can finf 1/43 or 1/48 figures cheap.
The side pod car has now had fillers on the wheel arches and it is fitted to the frame. It has also had USA style cow bumpers fitted to the front.
The last photo shows a cut down truck - this will have a fuel tanker to pull -- now looking for suitable tube for the fuel tank !!!
-
Well a tube found and the tank made. The tank has been painted as an old Shell tank ( 20 years with the company so its the natural choice )
I was going to try Wizzels method of using sand from an egg timer --- BUT HE HAS BOUGHT THEM ALL --- none left in the Beverley shops only electronic or mechanical ones. So methed number 2 - ground down some old used tea bag leaves to a very fine scale in a mortar and pestle. -- waiting for it to dry and then on with some more paint.
-
Coming out of your shell at last?
-
Your post apocalyptic theme has re-kindled my interest in the Sci-Fi side of things, and of course Andy is doing Jules Verne.
I have always liked Steampunk so who knows?
-
Steampunk is that our era -- or is that just how we look ?????
-
I think it was John Cook who gets egg timers from Boyes not me.
-
Sorry Wizzel -- you are correct.
-
Truck to pull the oil tanker has now had the lights removed and also the top above the driver. Ground tea used to make rust and a coat of paint on top of this. Will let this dry and then weather and rust on top of this.
Decided that the bag of toy soldiers for a £1 would never clean up -- so have made them look a little like the sand men from Star Wars film. Thin sections of wine bottle top wrapped in place and will be painted in sand colour. The goggles made from 2 sections of round plastic and will be painted black and silver - we will see how they go. This will then alow me to put the cars into a small diorama.
Have not decide who the model figure looks like so have not given him a name -- any ideas ???????
-
Some paint on the sand men - still not sure about the name ?????
-
Looks like an Egyptian mummy, does this help?
Haddock.
-
Thanks Haddock I will try and come up with a name.
The base has now been started - a coat of plaster and some cat litter added.
-
Just back, good stuff.
-
Wonderful work. And nobody can tell you it wasn't really like that either!!!
-
Thanks Wizzel and Zak.
You are correct Wizzel the "rivet counters" can say anything they like and I can just say its my idea and I can do what I like. So for once I am 100% correct -- except for the modelling quality, but its fun to do so I am happy.
-
Hi Msea,
Yes, very good stuff. It amazes me what goes on in that head of yours.
Best of all, its original Msea Productions, and guaranteed 100% accurate!
Bigkev
-
Thanks Kevin I think I should do a powerpoint about whats in my head for the next meeting -- it would have to be an X rated show and would shock some of the members to the core --- but would make you Zak and Neil laugh.
-
Working on next 2 figures that will be fixing a car in the diorama.
-
Some of these figures look a bit like Mutant Ninja Turtles!!
-
I think he modelled on himself Haddock, well after his wife had practiced first aid on him...........
Ninja Martin, has a ring to it....................
Kevin
-
Thanks Hadock and Kevin - now to do a cartoon of "Mutant Ninja Turtle Martin" the work never stops.
-
Hi Msea,
'Oh the burdens of the Superheroes'
Bigkev
-
Was thinking again (must stop this) because Kevin has had a brush with the scalpel and is bandaged up I should call the figures Kevins !!!!!!
-
Your apocalyptic world may be suffering from " The Curse of the Kevins ".
-
Nothing like the "Curse of the Kevins" - do you think I should go and see a doctor ?????
Men working on car progressing and a forge and bellows under construction. Also started on a hut for the diorama -- the flat bits have had some "maskol" added and they will eventually become old road signs. Well that is the plan at the moment.
Now back to making a "Mutant Ninga Turtle Martin" cartoon --- no rest for the wicked !!!
-
Well "Mutant Ninga Turtle Martin" to keep you all happy and laughing.
-
Sad, oh so very sad.
-
What are you trying to say Zak -- sad very very sad - it sounds like my call sign !!!
Well the roof has now had the flat plates painted and the maskol removed to make it look old and damaged.
-
Car under repair with forge and blacksmith. Two men in tanker truck.
-
First coat of orange on top of the base coat of red for the ground effect. A couple of different shades of orange to go on top and this will be finished.
-
Found this in a shop full of sweets for 20pence ( before you ask the sweets are rubbish) but the head will be turned into a monument on the hill behind the car in the photo on the last post.
It will be on a plinth and the only problem is what name shall I put on the base -- will it be "Darth Robinson" or "Neil Vader" at the moment DR is winning but if you have an idea!!!!!
-

That's a good name -- shall it be "Zak Phew" or "Phew Zak" ??????
-
Sorry Zak but with the amount of filling I have had to do on the head it MUST BE Darth Robinson.
Stand made and first coat of primer added.
-
Monumental!!!
-
Well Zak you have escaped -- it is now "Darth Robinson" in solid letters.
Another couple of coats of paint and then some red sand/dust to finish it off.
-
Working on the next car and also the figure that will go in the back of the truck.
-
New barrel and tripod for the machine gunner to go in the back of the truck.
-
Some more work on the cars and figures.
Bet you can't guess where the name on the back of the truck came from.
-
nice..
-
Well back to mad max for a bit - been looking for a £1 bag of farmyard animals but only found this dog for 40pence - so thought I would try converting him for practice.
Removed tail, can't have a monster wagging his tail. Next enlarged the head and gave him some horns but forgot to give him ears. When the filler is a bit drier will give him a bit more expression and maybe a coffeeee cup -- hohoho. Then for colour I thought a brown/sand colour underneath the body with a dark green top skin !!!!!!
And before Haddock gives me hell - I will be back doing ships this afternoon -- some more rails and ladders to add to the trawler.

Have you tried Boyes?
-
Thanks for the idea about Boyes -- I will NOT say "i have been married for 46 years" or I may get moderated by Kevin
-
Speaking of Boyes the store in Bridlington have reduced 17ml bottles of Vallejo paints to £1.75 a bottle, a reduction of 50p a bottle!!! Get in there while stocks last!!!

-
Is that the sound of a stampede I hear?
Bigkev
-
Well does anybody remember this topic ?????
Decided that it needed lots and lots of bits and bobs in the background to make it more life like. Found this pack of animals CHEAP in a shop and am now changing them into animals that will match the type of figures in the scene
-
The giraffe has now had brass rods and paper connecting infills, the same as the Australian Chlamydosaurus Kingii ( that a frilled lizard to you lot -- hohoho ).
The paper has been glued to the brass rods and when solid it will be cut to shape.
-
Frills cut to shape and the base coat of colour on both animals - now what shall I call them ????
-
Hi Msea,
Could one be a 'Dollioctupus', a creature that can do many things, not always properly or in correct order, but he tries....
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Hi Kevin -- is that ME - hohoho
-
Hi Kevin -- is that ME - hohoho
You fit the bill Msea,
But, I was thinking of myself in the same breed, remember my surname...
Bigkev
-
Yes but I was saving that for the next "monster" i get from Mighty Lancer and make into one of my army from the Xanthine Wars.
-
Some RED for danger keep away added to the YELLOW look at me frills on the neck and head.
Also a start made on the camel - his neck has been removed but he still needs something else.
I am starting to feel like the nasty kid in the Toy Story film - before you ask his name is Sid Phillips not MSea.-- hohoho
-
Now the camel has a reduced neck -- so his legs have been extended. When dry will put some filler on the legs and then decide if it needs any more changes.
-
Has it got the hump?
-
You would get the hump if I made a model of you - - - now that's a good idea - hohoho. Hope the flu has now gone and you are back to modelling
-
Hi Msea,
Nice to see the alternative 'Zoo' is still growing.
Will the six legged Alligator make an appearance soon?
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Did you finish this Martin. I followed it all the way through but no final picture of the diorama.
-
Hi Chris -- was going to redo my room with new furniture but something called Covid 19 got in the way. Lots of things got packed away in boxes, so will get back to this when everything comes out of storage.
-
Well most of the stuff is still in a box till I can get my room sorted - BUT just for you Chris.
This will be turned from a police car into "Chris's Creamater Car" with a flame thrower on the roof instead of sirens/lights - now make sure you have your driving licence with you when the zombies stop you Chris - YoHoHo
-

WHY

I don't think he will!
-
YOU are correct Chris - hohohohho
-
Larger wheel arches added to the front of the car and then primed in black
-
Firsts coat of green on the car and a base coat of "hull red" for the rust.
-
Are the wide flared mudguard for catching the odd zombie under?
-
No to stop them getting wrapped round the wheel - its messy to clean them out afterwards - hohoho
-
Start made on the flame thrower to go on top of the cab - make sure you have your asbestos gloves Chris we don't want you to get burnt fingers - hohohoho
-
Nice to see this continuing MSea. What sort of size will the finished article be?
-
Start made on the flame thrower to go on top of the cab - make sure you have your asbestos gloves Chris we don't want you to get burnt fingers - hohohoho
I won't touch. Honest.
-
Another blast from the past - found the box of animals and decided to make the gorilla stand up - now who does he look like - hohohho
Chopped into 4 bits and then pined and glued together and the first bit of filler added - YES Zak before you ask I was watching the "Mad Max - Fury Road" film again last night ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Zombie gorillas; whatever next? Maybe I shouldn't ask.
-
Zombie gorillas; whatever next? Maybe I shouldn't ask.
DON'T ask Chris you never know what is coming out of my head next - hohohho
Next thing is to sort out some trousers for the gorilla and also a NAME for him ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
First 4 animals well under construction for the model - now what shall I do with the bear and the moose ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
The mind does boggle.
-
Boggle away Chris - hohohhohoho
-
More work done on some strange animals
-
I do sometimes wonder?????????????????????????????????????
Well a lot actually!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
So do I - hohohohhoho
-
Yes, I think we all wonder a lot.
-
Looks like someone's had a dodgy mince pie and way,way too much rum!!!!!!!
