This model was picked up at Telford last year and I found the WW2 jeep in the loft ( yes it is WW2 and Vietnam but as a good Yorkshireman, a bit of mud and slop and you will not notice the difference)
The book is the Osprey Campaign Series "Tet Offensive 1968" and the jeep will be placed in a street scene with the Vietcong firing from a building, well that is the plan at the moment, it may change.
-
Most of the work on putting this model together was done at "Playday 2 - Return of the Nerds" All have been primed and next job some colour on the bits and bobs.
-
All 5 figures now sorted and ready to be cleaned up and fastened together.
-
Wheels now added and some colour to the jeep
-
Base made and a start made on the walls of the house.
-
Jig made for the wall in front of the building. A section of MDF cut for the wall but it looks a bit thick and out of scale, so a thinner section of acrylic has now been cut, will see which is best.
-
Decided that the acrylic looks more in scale than the MDF - so marked up and drilled out, last section filed to shape.
-
Keep on Drilling and Filing....
It keeps you out of trouble...…….
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
It will take more than that to keep me out of trouble
-
Some thin sections of acrylic added to make the wall more 3D
-
Dry run with both sections of the wall and the building fitted.
-
Now it makes sense, well sort of.
Haddock.
-
Bullet damage to the front of building picked out in red and then a basic yellow colour added. Next some work on windows and doors
-
Door frame added from coffee stirrer from KFC, they are an oval shape not flat and the door is made from ordinary flat stirrers.
-
Roof beams now made and fastened together.
When solid will add some tiles ( yes Zak I will put them the correct way round this time ) and put some wallpaper on the inside walls and flooring on both levels.
-
Hi Msea,
This is looking good.
What sort of wallpaper will you be hanging, a nice floral number, or a more zany physcodelic affair?
I'm sure it will look great whatever you decide...!

Wallpaper? Very posh.
-
Yes very posh - its Hue not Bempton - hohoho
-
Make sure you get it on straight!
-
If I get it the correct way round on the wall it will be a miracle, let alone straight -- hohoho
-
All tiles fitted -- when dry and solid just the edges to cut to make it neat and then some colour
-
Some dark red on the roof tiles. Last 2 photos are the door handle carved from a toothpick and then fitted into the door.
-
Wallpaper added to the walls and when it is dry and solid will cut out the windows and add the door to the inside of the wall

Are you available in February?, I am thinking of some home redecoration.

I usually make them from pinheads.
-
That's a good idea thank you Zak -
Yes I am available for decorating in Feb Kevin - but what do you wish to be damaged, broken or just plain made into about 10,000 bits - hohoho - even "she who must be obeyed" doesn.t let me decorate.
-
Windows cut out of the wallpaper and some flooring added to the upper floor.
-
A start made on some corrugated iron to go outside the building - holes drilled and then some work with the drill and a file to make it look old and distressed ( just like me - hohoho )
-
Problem - the acrylic is 0.5mm size and it will not go through the machine to make the corrugations. So another made from 0.3mm acrylic and this seems to work - will see what it looks like when painted.
This machine is another Christmas pressy from a couple of years ago for "she who must be obeyed" and is not now used, so has been acquired for my modelling - hohoho
-
Window slats fitted - some damaged in the top right window.
-
Arms added to the 2 vietcong figures - heads and hat ready to paint as well

Awaiting the painting of the figures with anticipation.
Bigkev
-
Sorry Kevin you will have to wait a bit longer.
First job was to drill out and make some ladders, next job was to add some flagstones outside the building and also dig out the foindations for the wall.
-
Very scenic.
-
Wall added and some texture to the ground in front of the wall.
-
Making a table for inside the building ( bet most of our members don't even know it will be inside - but hey ho its only for FUN ) legs made and the top to have rolled edges, now what colour shall I paint it 1960 Vietnam suppose it will be brown.
-
bottom half of the table made - now off for food at the pub.
-
Working on more bits and bobs to go outside the building
-
Looks like a barrel of laughs...…………………………...well several really.
-
After 20 years with them it will be Shell oil drums - now that was a barrel of laughs
-
Roof added to the building.
-
A start made on some colocasia leaves to go along the wall.
-
Some Rinicus Communis ( that's castor oil plant for you lot - hohoho) leaves made
-
Very scenic, showing off your horticultural skills as well.
-
Thanks Zak - horticultural skills , you name it I can kill it - anyway leaves now added to the castor oil plant - now if i kill this it will be a new skill, killing a metal plant.
-
One Shell oil drum now finished just some weathering to make it look the part.
-
Table finished and painted red - then "she who must be obeyed" thought it would look better in gloss black.
If she is happy then so am I -- and its only a table in the back of the house, that I expect 90% of our members will not even see.
-
The castor oil and the colocasia have now had the veins added to the leaves.
-
Castor oil added behind the wall
-
More plant life ( no I am not talking about our members - hohoho ) added to the walls
-
Figure added to the top floor window
-
Just what is that figure doing?
Strange pose when viewed from the rear.
-
Just been shot - what do YOU think he is doing ?????????
-
Just been shot - what do YOU think he is doing ?????????
I really didn't want to think about it, what with your imagination and so on...……………….
-
Me imagination - never been known
-
Hi Msea,
I reckon you have 95% of the clubs imagination.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
All I need now Kevin is some quality in my model skills.
-
Hi Martin, just been browsing through your dioramas. Very impressive. I even thought it might be interesting to do something similar although I don't know how I can fit in a helicopter!
Chris
-
You can do it Chris - seen lots of Vietnam dioramas with Helicopters. Remember one with it landing on one of the river gunboats and several with them crashed into a paddy field.
-
I've just caught up with this thread and yet again am impressed with how the scenarios you come up with. Being innocent I thought the figure was leaning back to check the wallpaper.
Oh and if we meet up again this year you can call me Meyer!!!
-
Yes I do believe you have an amazing imagination Martin!
-
Did you ever finish this?
-
No it got packed away when I was going to have new flooring and furniture for my model room - so lots of things got put in boxes in the garage so they didn't get damaged.
Strange that you mentioned it, as I was putting down underlay in the garage over the last 2 days and saw this model (well the box at least) and thought must finish this one soon - so you never know .
-
More amazing stuff! you really should finish it!
-
You could give the table design to Howard as it looks like a Japanese seat.
-
I’ve been a bit slow reading this one, I like the Vietnam era.
Bob c
-
Figure added to the top floor window
Excellent.
Best Vietnam film anyone??????
-
Only one for me Andy is "Apocalypse Now" -- I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
Will tell you about my time and the personnel grenades and also the Vietnamese bear when I was there
-
Great film, I would say almost a horror film.
I like Platoon. It comes very close to getting the platoon politics just about right.
Would like to hear your Vietnam stories in person one day.
Andy.
-
I like platoon, but Bat21 is one of my favourites, there used to be a TV series called tour of duty that was ok.
Bob c
-
I liked them all, found Apocalypse Now o bit odd, but liked the idea of capturing beaches for surfing on.
-
Charlie Don't Surf!!!
-

Yes I thought so too. Some good scenes in it though.
Both Platoon and Full Metal Jacket were good. Hamburger Hill was a bit different.
When We Were Soldiers Once and Young was also a good film. The book was very good.

Hi Msea,
A great talk in the making when we can all meet again, I reckon??

Bring it on.
-
let's see this one finished it looks great so far.
Bob c
-
Well this will be a shock to some of you.
My room is on hold at the moment as IKEA has not got the furniture i need. So when I was sorting out some trays of part finished figures decided to get the model out of the garage and get on with it. Next job work on the jeep, driver and gunner - then the other figures in the jeep.
-
That's been quite a hiatus. You'll have it finished soon.
-
Looking good Msea,
Bah... I wish I had your skill.
Bigkev
-
why do you wish to throw away 50% of your skills to come down to my level ?
-
Talking about skills - some work done on the figures - SORRY Howard about what I will do to the faces.
-

He'll just have to face up to it.
-
I will face the music when I have done them
-
I haven't seen a zombie for a while.
-
I haven't seen a zombie for a while.
Don't encourage him.
-
You saw Zak on Wed night - is that not enough - hohohohoho
-
Who's encouraging who?
-
Glad you are cracking on with this one now.
Bob c
-
Cracking is the correct word Bob - just for a change it was not me damaging my models - "she who must be obeyed" was putting some stuff away in my room and knocked the whole model onto the floor.
Machine gun smashed off the jeep, drivers seat out and also the wheels and springs under the jeep damaged - ohh well its only the thing I would do, so its out with the fixing glue and put it all together again.
-
The house looks like one we saw in Tobermoray recently. No Charlies though as they can't get the staff to open!!!!
-
Well back to trying to fix and then finish this one - seems very strange working on 1/35 scale after the 1/72 Persian Immortals - but at least they are all as bad as each other hohohhoho
-
Some work done on the jeep
-
Driver put together - now is the time for Howard to look away, its time to work on the hands and face.
-
Putting the machine gunner together
-
Moving along quickly.
-
Not at your speed
-
Good face painting!
-
First figure and windscreen added
-
Driver now fitted to the jeep
-
50cal gunner added to the trio - next some bits and bobs in the jeep and on the soldiers, then all to be fixed to the base.
-
Looking very good Martin.
-
All figures have had a flory wash and then all parts fastened together
-
Excellent Martin. Like the wallpaper.
-
Very nicely animated. Especially like the 'shot' sniper.
Bigkev
-
Thanks all for the comments - have wallpaper left if you need any for your house Chris - hohohhoho - also must read more accurately, when looking at your comment Kevin, thought you had put "snot sniper"
-
