Modelling Projects / Chinese Z10 helicopter - Hobby Boss
« on: October 20, 2020, 04:10:51 PM »
Just about to begin this one. I've probably had it a few years. The mouldings are crisp and clean (definitely first run ) so this should be a straight forward build.

Modelling Projects / Fujimi RH-53D Sea Stallion
« on: October 09, 2020, 04:02:44 PM »
This model when it came out in the mid 1970s cost £12.  I was at college at the time when a  week's lodgings was £10, so I didn't buy it. Luckily back in 2009 I was able to buy it second hand at a show for £12; didn't think twice.
Anyway now about to begin building it. The parts are all very clean so should be a joy to build.

Modelling Projects / Sea King Asac 7

This is going to be using the Revell kit modified with Model Alliance decals.
The kit is for the HAS  6 or the AEW 2 but is easily modified to the Asac 7.

Started this a few days ago. A bit of cleaning up to be done - quite a bit of flash.

General Discussion / Linka - anyone remember this?
« on: August 31, 2020, 03:10:57 PM »
Going through the garage I came across the Linka sets I bought back around 1980. Thought I'd bring them into use.
Does anyone remember Linka?

Modelling Projects / Mil Mi1 ambulance

This is an Amodel kit in 1/72nd I started last week. Someone did suggest I posted more as I progress!
Anyway like a lot of models from this manufacturer there is quite a bit of flash to remove. Interestingly the larger kits seem to have less - maybe it's a relative thing.
One photo shows the fuselage halves ( cockpit inserted ) with one or two assemblies. The other shows what it is expected to look like.

Internals done and some subassemblies built. 1/72nd scale.
Colour scheme will be for Vietnam 1963.

This is the Italeri kit in 1/72nd scale. Colour scheme is for Vietnam 1966.
All airbrushed with mr hobby paints apart from the underside which is Halfords Fiat white.
Built straight out of the box and went together quite well.

My latest project. Mainly resin parts with a quite a few bits of brass. So I think I will have plenty to do.

This is the Revell kit in 1/72nd scale. Built straight out of the box which went together pretty well. Main colors airbrushed with Mr Hobby paints numbers 422 (green) and 336 (hemp). Used photo references from Photosniper publication Mi-28 Night Hunter and the others.

General Discussion / Mr Hobby paints for Tony
« on: June 22, 2020, 10:47:29 AM »
I find the mr hobby paints very good particularly for airbrushing. I usually do at least two coats for coverage.
As the paints still mix a little when dry - this good for coats of the same colour - but when a colour change is required I have to put a coat of polish between the different colours.
Also I have found the odd shade difference between the mr color and aqueous hobby paints with the same number.
Also there are some colours in the mr color range which do not feature in the aqueous hobby range.

That'll do for starters.

Modelling Projects / Vietnam OH-6A
« on: June 21, 2020, 02:11:45 PM »
This one I am intending to put in a small diorama. Yes both Martin and Dave got me fired up with dioramas. The kit is the Italeri 1/72nd kit. I have already cut the doors out of the starboard side and filled the hinges on the port side. The aircraft in Vietnam were flown without doors. I have a couple of figures to put in but the crew chief is a little big (or chopper too small) so I'll have to decide how to attack that problem. PSP acquired and I need to make some sandbags for a revetment.
This project could be a little slow.

Modelling Projects / Italian EH101
« on: June 21, 2020, 01:54:16 PM »
My latest finished helicopter. The Italeri 1/72nd Italian EH101 built straight out of the box. The kit has the option for a folder tail and rotors. If you don't want to do that option it was a bit tricky to do it not folded and get the tail straight.
Finished with mr color paints and then varnished.

Modelling Projects / Fujimi Sea Knight
« on: June 02, 2020, 02:50:09 PM »
This I have just finished. It's a Fujimi HH-46A Sea Knight 1/72nd scale. This kit went together very well. Just one issue  - the photograph on the box lid does not match what is inside. Added the searchlight underneath and the angled box  (some sort of chute ejection system) on the port side. This was all airbrushed using Mr Hobby paints with a small amount of brush work.
