WHAT'S PLAYING?

I guess most of us will have some form of audio entertainment in the modelling room so I wonder what you like to listen to while you're gluing little bits of plastic together.  For me it's always Radio 4.  I haven't bothered working out how to get other stations on my radio and 4 fits the bill for me nicely.  I find it soothing, cultural (yes, in Withernsea, we NEED all the culture we can get) and educational - ideal to have on in the background where you can dip your ears in and out as the mood takes you, especially in the wee hours.  Some of the stuff is a little dry but I just tune that out.  Music plays a big part in my life but if I had music on when modelling, I would soon be putting down the brush and picking up the guitar.

Here at work now, I've got Motor City Madhouse by Ted Nugent on.  I MUST learn that guitar riff.

I generally listen to Radio 2 - generally entertaining and not too intrusive.

Like Zak, I like something not to loud or obtrusive.
Currently listening to 'Bomber' by Len Dieghton, an old cassette book, but something of interest to me.

No music for me, I sometimes talk to myself, usually, the room is full of the sound of gnashing teeth and a bit of swearing.

Kevin, the Bomber audio book is a fantastic bit of work.  I have it on my ipod and must have listened to it a good dozen times.   It's so good, I didn't think about Doctor Who once when Tom Baker's narration came in. 

Tony, there's much swearing and gnashing of teeth in my room too, every time DCOS comes in and interrupts me at a critical stage in gluing very small bits together or when trying to paint canopy frames!

Christine leaves me alone when I'm modelling so I am very lucky in that respect, but I do like some kind of back ground noise music/speaking books/ whatever.
If something goes wrong I can turn up the volume. Reasoning is..................

I must be lucky too, Sandra supplies me with tea/coffee at regular intervals and gives me plenty of warning if she is coming into my modelling room.

I can see a connection here based on the amount of kits you manage to produce compared to me....

Audio books are great.  I'm trying to get hold of the audio book of "A Higher Call" about the Luftwaffe pilot who escorted a very badly damaged B17 over the sea so it could get home.  I read the book a while back and will review it for the newsletter, but what a terrific - and true - story of the lives of both the 109 and B17 pilots.

I myself generally listen to the dulcet tones of WDR2 which i think is about the equivalent to british Radio 2. Older Music, a bit of chat and stuff that you can let wash over you in the background. i share the modelling room with my better half who does a lot og stuff for the Kids she loooks after and is also building an Albatros D3 (for 2 years now), but she does enjoy diorama building. Fortunately we have a purpose buld room and ist plenty big enough for the both of us.

When not at the modelling bench, I tend to "mainline" a handful of favourite bands for a while before getting bored with them and moving on to the next lot of favourite bands.  At the moment, I'm back into my Frank Zappa phase so I'm listening to a lot of his heavier stuff with amazing guitar work in such as Bamboozled by Love/Owner of a Lonely Heart from "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore volume 3".

Also on the turntable, music lovers, is Skyclad - a folk/metal band from UK who I saw and met several times in Germany in the early 90s.

Finally, to calm things down a touch, I'm letting Saint Germain Des Pres Café wash over me - a series of albums of "nu jazz" associated with the cafes in that area of France.  Smashing.  And that's going on right now!
