General Discussion / 20th Anniversay Club Barbeque Night
« on: August 23, 2015, 07:18:09 AM »
Hi All,

Just like to say a big thankyou to all those who attended the Clubs 20th Year celebration Barbeque held in the Garden of Cass Hall, our normal meeting venue. Members and their wives, girlfriends, and children joined together to enjoy a social night.

It is hard to believe that the club has existed for 20 years, and has grown into a vibrant and respected club. We have a great mix of modellers, making all manner of subjects, in differing scales and media types. at the moment we have around 30 members, a very healthy membership. We have had lots of success as a club both on an individual basis and as a club in its own right, winning the Best Model Show Trophy for 2014, for last years East Riding of Yorkshire Model Show which we host.

Huge thanks  to Andy and Shaz for helping to prepare the venue ready for the night, to Margaret for making the celebration cake, and lastly but not least to my wife Christine for helping me in gathering some of the ancillary items (plates, napkins, etc.) and for making a fantastic Strawberry Sponge cake.

The weather was kind to us and I think all had a pleasant and relaxing time on the night, with lots of food and drink being consumed in a very relaxed atmosphere.

The Celebration Cake was cut by myself, whilst others of the club looked on behind, and nobody did the 'bunny ears' trick behind me.

Thankyou once again, to all concerned for making the night a success.

Here is to the next 20 years.

Hi All,

Just to let you know Andy is away on holiday on Wednesday so will not be opening up Cass Hall for us. The caretaker will, but will not do so until 7.15pm, so please Do Not Arrive before then as you will not be able to gain entry.
However once we are in and running, the meeting will go on until 10.00pm as normal, but be prepared to help with the set up of the tables and chairs at the start, and the subsequent packing away at the end of the night.

I will be emailing everybody with this that I can think of/remember, but if I don't get everbody and you get chance please pass the word.

Cheers,
Bigkev

General Discussion / Northern Model Show 2015
« on: June 22, 2015, 07:05:06 AM »
Hi All,

Just remembered I had these pictures of the Northern Model Show still in my camera.

We had a great day, and it was nice to welcome Chris and Tracey to our club table. I think they enjoyed the day, and I know Chris got his Arado's he'd been after, so a result!

Hope you like the pictures,
Bigkev

Hi All,

Well, just to let you know that the planning and applications for our show for this year are well underway.

So far we have already filled over 90% of the tables available for displays and over 50% of Traders display space booked. Those reading this and wanting space, please get in touch on modedriffshow@btinternet.com as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

The new revamped venue has been finished, and looks very good. This year in addition to plastic scale models and all the associated traders, we will be having R/C aircraft and ship models, and also 16mm steam gauge railway display. There will be a boating pool for the ship models and an area for a R/C flying display.

An onsite meeting is due in the next few weeks to finalise placements, PA system, parking, etc.

More updates will be posted here as they are available.

Hi All,

Well decided that I would stray away from the 'White Stuff' for a little while.

Whilst at Darlington I bought a book on the IL-2 Stormovik, which I intend to build soon. However I also had the Hobbycraft Polikarpov I-16 Type 18 in 1/48 in the stash, begging to be built. So I decided that would be my next project.
The kit is moulded in pale grey, and has some fine raised and scribed panel lines. The kit is quite basic, but I think I can make a few improvements along the way to make it look half decent.

I started by opening the holes in the wing undersides for the underwing rockets supplied, then glued top wing parts in place, taped together and put aside to dry.
The fuselage was next point. A dry fit showed that the bottom of the fuselage needed a shim of plastic card to pack out  to match the wing joint more readily. This was done with thin strips, to be sanded to a feather edge towards tail once dry.
Next the cockpit which is very poor, crude and basic. Not being a rivet counter I decided to embellish the missing details with plastic card, stretched sprue, some lead wire, and wine bottle foil. The sprue etc. was designed to give an impression of internal structure, and though not 100% accurate I think looks passable. The instrument panel needed to be brought forward into the cockpit as it sat too far in. The seat was usable but thickly moulded on the edges so was thinned down by sanding and scraping to a more acceptable scale thickness. I then added wine bottle foil to represent seat belts.
This was cut into thin strips then manipulated into a more natural fabric look before being glued in place with superglue and a little activator to make it stick.
Whilst on the fuselage I drilled out the engine exhaust stubs, and also drilled the two missing 'portholes' from underneath the canopy coaming (designed to help illuminate the instrument panel), and also the hand grips that were also there for the pilot.
Tomorrow I shall start painting the cockpit, engine, instrument panel.
Some pictures of the work so far:-

General Discussion / Sad News Geoff Proudfoot
« on: January 23, 2015, 09:43:46 PM »
Dear All,

I am very sorry to pass on the sad news that our larger than life club member Geoff Proudfoot, sadly passed away earlier today in hospital after fighting hard in his battle with his Brain Tumour illness.

Geoff was a larger than life character who will be sorely missed by his family and friends. His quick and direct wit was a joy to behold. As his illness progressed Geoff became more unwell, to the point where he was unable to leave home easily.

Our thoughts and best wishes go to Ruth and Dane at this sad time.

if I get any details regarding Geoff's funeral arrangements I will post them here.

Hi Guys,

Well straight into the next project for the website.

This is the Revell Concorde in 1/144th. I purchased this kit after seeing Andy's built Airfix Concorde in 1/72nd, and thought this would fit my build size. Andy's Concorde was amazing but a bit too large to transport easily, I remember the 'Coffin' containing the said Concorde sitting on our laps on the way to Huddersfield a few years ago!!

The kit comes in a large box containing three sprues, two in white one in clear. Usual Revell style instructions, and a reasonable sized but well printed decal sheet containing both Air France and British Airways schemes.

The mouldings are quite good, though not quite up to todays standard, with some flash being present, but not too much to worry about, the clear parts suffer from distortion, so I may resort to using a replacement set of decals containing windows and the later style markings seen of the Concorde before its retirement.

I have included some pictures of the parts, box art, instructions and decals before I get started.

General Discussion / Venue Change for Club Meetings
« on: November 18, 2014, 06:25:38 PM »
Hi All,

As from immediate effect, we will no longer meeting at 'The Railway Buffet, Bridlington Railway Station, Bridlington.

Club members will be aware that our December meeting will be held at a temporary location(yet to be decided), so that members will have a chance to discuss the matter openly and freely.

However, the website header page will still show the old details for a few days until it can be removed. Once a new venue has been discussed and agreed with members, the new details will be added.

We hope to have normal club meetings back in place for the start of 2015.

Cheers,

General Discussion / Problems Uploading Photographs
« on: October 28, 2014, 06:47:07 AM »
Hi All,

There is a problem uploading photographs with posts at the moment.

The attachments file is full at moment and needs either some 'Old' stuff removing, or the file size increasing. I have contacted Mike to look at the problem, but I am awaiting him to contact me to let me know the outcome.

Hopefully it will be resolved within the next few days.

I will ask Mike if he can post here when he has resolved it.

Cheers,

Bigkev

Hi All,

Now the Kulula Boeing 737 is finished, I looked in the 'Pile' and came across this Revell Airbus A319 in 'BMI' colours which I had for one of those days.

The kit is moulded in white and clear, with some very fine panel lines. The Decal/Transfer sheet is printed by 'Daco' for Revell and is superb.

So far I have painted the undercarriage bays, stuck the wings together , but the fuselage needs some attention at the nose on my kit, as it seems to not meet at the very nose without excessive force, so a little work will be needed.

For now, I have taken a few pictures to show the kits contents, the parts are reasonably few in number, but I think this will let me get onto the painting stage quickly, something I relish.

General Discussion / Barry Ketley R.I.P.
« on: January 22, 2014, 08:03:01 PM »
Dear All,
It is with a sad heart that I must inform you that Barry Ketley sadly passed away on Monday 20th January 2014. As you are probably aware Barry had a heart transplant recently, and though was recovering well, he contracted an infection that in his weakened state was unable to stave off, and sadly passed away.

Barry, a quiet and unassuming man, with oodles of information, knowledge and skill, will be sadly missed by all at the club. He was generous, and very approachable, and always willing to listen, talk and advise those he came into contact with. He never let anyone feel that they did not have anything to offer, and encouraged individuals to show their modelling skills no matter how experienced or not they were, all had a place in the modelling scene.

He was a real true Gentleman, and one that we will all miss.

Our thoughts go out to Barry, his family and friends at this sad time.
