The M151 was developed in the 1950's. It had a 4 cylinder 2.3 litre OHV engine. 4 speed with 4 wheel drive,
Ford began production in 1959 and later models were built by Kaiser Jeep and AM General.
This is the M151A1 version from 1964, various upgrades had been made.
Around 200,000 version of the M151 were produced.
Essentially a Jeep upgrade.
This is the Tamiya version under construction.
I will build this as a Marine Corps version.
-
On the Modelling Day, I started this Academy version, it is not the same as the Tamiya and includes a full engine. This is the M151A1 version.
-
The Academy has much more detail included, engine, radiator, air cleaner. battery compartment under the seat. See photo.
-
Hope you'll be painting the batteries.
-
I might even wire them up!
-
Don't forget the dipstick for the engine ::) ::) ::)
-
Make the lights work aswell?
-

There is only one dipstick I know!
Battery and plugs wired up!
-
HoHoHo you little wag you - now who are you thinking about ??? ??? ??? ???
-
The Tamiya one has had the wheels added and some weathering.
Decals added as well.
Just the driver to add and some dry brushing to do, then a bit more weathering.
-
Looking great.
-
Weathered, almost there, just a figure to convert as a passenger.
-
Back to the Academy kit, engine detail and batteries painted.
-
Looking great but I can't see the dipstick - hohohho ::) ::) ::)
-
Looking great. Nice detail.

Mirrors are always useful for looking in difficult places - Ha Ha Ha!
-
Model finished, just weathering and some dry brushing to go.
-
Two great looking models. Well done.
-
Great detail.
-
Here it is finished.
Dry brushed, weathered and so on.
Now it will be the Tamiya M151A2 with TOW Missile Launcher and Tracking system
-
Looks great and back to your normal speed of construction
-
Unfortunately, things will now slow down for a while.
-
Great model.
-
Good looking model.

-
Some progress on the version with the TOW missile
-
So where Chris W does multi shades of grey you're now into all things olive drab. Henry Fordish or what? Seriously though it looks like it's coming along nicely.
-
Everything stuck together, slight weathering and some dry brushing.
Some more weathering to go and some dirt maybe?
-
Looking good - how many will you have in your new army ::) ::) ::) ::)

Three more to build, all slightly different.
The next one will have a recoilless rifle fitted,
Which is better, the Tamiya or the Academy kit?
Well both have their merits and downsides.
The Tamiya is the easier build and has less detail, the Academy has lots of detail, but rubber tyres.
Each kit leaves you with spares, as some parts are used in each kit and others are not.
Looking at the models, it is difficult to decide which sits best.
-
Good models. I see you are back upto speed Dave.
-
Not for long, Granddaughter to amuse next week and a funeral up in Cumbria.
-
This one looks great and a bit different.

Academy M151A1 with recoilless rifle, awaiting weathering and so on.

Another army growing there Dave. Good model.
-
A great selection of interesting vehicles, well done.

This is the Tamiya M151A2 Ford Mutt with cargo trailer.
The last of these will be the Academy M151A2 Hard Top with cargo trailer.
More of this later.

Undercoated.

Woof Woof ::) ::)
No, they were Sherman, Moriarty!
-
Looks as if it has been on campaign Dave. Excellent.
-
Woof Woof ::) ::)
No, they were Sherman, Moriarty!
Sorry, maybe I misunderstood, I assumed the "woof, woof" was a quote from Kelly's Heroes, not just about a dog!
Too clever for my own good!
-
It was my comment Zak - so go for the simplest one, yes it was a dog - don't get into what type of tank they used ::) ::) ::)
-
Walker Bulldog, Tamiya kit 1/35 scale.
Nice easy build, as you would expect from Tamiya. Painted, pin washed and dry brushed, just wondering whether to weather it?
-
Some weathering done!
-
that's a great collection Dave, and a great film if you treat it as entertainment.

-
Excellent model Dave and photos.
-
Great looking model. Which film was it used these as PzKpfw VI Tigers? I think Robert Shaw was in it as a blonde German Tank Commander.

Battle of the Bulge?
Not sure.
They may have been Patton tanks?
