I'm finding that these older kits are great fun - I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 little gliders I did.  I don't feel quite as guilty if I muck up something I got for a couple of quid because nobody else wants the old stuff anymore.  It's a good challenge to hone my very basic skills such as filling, sanding and scratch building basic parts that aren't there.  As has been said before, modelling, not assembling.

Likewise Wizzel! I am surprised to find so many older Airfix/Frog/Hasegawa go together quite well - of course some don't - but I too enjoy the 'challenge' and yes, they do 'hone' the skill set! Next competition - present a kit at least 30 years old!!!!

Hi Pen-Pusher, I'm with you,

Whilst it's great to have a state of the art model, which fits superbly, accurate, and great precise detail. An 'older' kit has its own charm, and if you can use your skills to bring it more up to date, not a better way to learn.

I too, like the old kits, nostalgia maybe, but a different sort of satisfaction is realised with each of them I attempt.

Best thing is, there is always the older models around to buy at a great price from dealers, you just need to keep your eyes open.

I wondered if I'd left myself open to any 'observations' here but I thought, "no, they're a mature lot at Brid, they'll not see owt in it!!!!"
