I first bought this kit, no doubt like many of you, on it's first release in 1968 so when it was re-released in 2011 I JUST had to buy it again. In between it had had 6 re-boxings and along the way it became a 'snap and glue' kit. That was the kit re-released in 2011 but it now includes updated decals by Cartograph but sadly it has the usual Airfix pilot so she has the figure of Keira Knightley not Destiny Angel!! The mouldings haven't weathered the storm of time very well and suffer from lots of flash and ejector pin marks in some awkward places. An online build said that filler was required in lots of places and that turns out to be the case. I've started scratch-building the cockpit and am replacing the kit bench with a seat that looks more like the original item. Because the kit is 'snap and glue' you have yo be very careful when dry fitting items and when it comes to gluing there isn't much wiggle room.

I built one many years ago.
Captain Scarlet remembered with fondness.
-
I bet Chris remembers all the angel pilots' names!
-
I was at sea hitting things with hammers so didn't see the show or the model - I have had such a bad life, before you lot say it - hohohoho

Harmony, Melody, Rhapsody and Symphony? (Is that right?)
-
I think that's right. There were five of them - don't know if Destiny was the fifth one.
-
She was. But which was the one shot down by the Mysterons?
-
Don't know Chris its a mystery to me !!!!!!!

I have no idea either.
-
Got me there.
-
Harmony, or should that be disharmony, lol!!!
-
The Mysterons had good battery torches...

And great voices as well................................................... This is the voice of the Model Club.
-
Is that Captain Black?
-
If he was doing the voice for the club he could be Captain Black Hearted - hohohohoh

Picked up from where I'd left off after yesterday's small attempt at filling and sanding the body by fitting the wings, tail plane and front canards. Followed by more filling and sanding. In between the main 'skis' were given a coat of red at the front, which was then masked off before they and the front u/c were fitted. Looking at how long it's taken to get to this stage I dread to think what my original model looked like as it would have been the usual case of 'bought in the afternoon and built by teatime'!!!
-
Diorama next Chris with Cloudbase?
-
Only if I throw everything out of the garage!!!
-
After masking it's a further coat of primer followed by two coats of Appliance Gloss White. I'm leaving this to cure overnight before moving on to the red (should that be scarlet?) and black areas.
-
Obviously SCARLET.

I've obviously missed out on a lot in my Life???????
It was Dan Dare and the Mekon in my time, oh! and Flash Gordon
(Buster Crabbe?)
-
The mud men in Flash Gordon used to frighten me to death - watched them a few years ago and thought how could I have been so frighten - different time, different era. ::) ::) ::)

It kept us amused and out of our parents hair.
The films always sopped at a cliff hangar, leaving it for the next week.
Those were the days - or were they?

Being a lot younger than you lot I can only just remember Four Feather Falls, followed by Stingray, Space Patrol, Fireball XL5 etc. Anyway I digress.
After I started detailing the model I found that Retrokit do a resin cockpit and sidewall insert but I'm glad I did it the 'hard' way as I learnt more. The seat is from the spares box with added scratch-built detail. The decals went on well as you'd expect being from Cartograph with three exceptions. The red stripe in front of the intake is too long, the large A underneath doesn't match the raised lines which show it's position, being too small and lastly there is no decal for the intake at the front of the tail-plane. As can be seen from the final photo the two sides of the tail-plane are not the same so there is a difference in these and finally the exhaust pipe had to be adjusted to fit and OOB is too thick.
Despite all the above I enjoyed making the Interceptor, which is what our hobby is all about.

Dick Barton, special agent?
-
My Dad told me about him, lol!!!
-
The model looks really good Chris.
By the way don't forget Supercar.
-
YES, YES I like it.
Great little model.
Well done.
Andy.

Yes Tony, and Journey into Space!
I get the cds of them that are in charity shops these days and
listen to them whilst doing the models. Great! Keeps me entertained for hours,
no wonder it takes me ages to finish anything!
