Here's part of my next model. It's NOT a Spitfire! But what is it? All will be revealed at the next meeting. Bill

The Mystery deepens or is that darkens?

Yes, indeed it will. It is a Spitfire, add 20 points to your score!!!

Unbiased judge.

I think we are looking for aircraft depicted during WW2 and not either pre or post even though they are thought of as WW2 Aircraft. Or am I completely wrong?

Well, Zak isn't the only one building Spitfires, here's my latest but question is, 'What's going on with the paint scheme?'.

Answers on postcard or see the finished model at the next meeting.

Well, I suppose you could have a Foible wearing a Tin Hat and Puttees.

WHAT!
That's a bit of a disappointment! I could except them not being 'aerofoil' section, next you'll be telling us there are NO turnbuckles!

I'm still here, see my topic on Spitfires (yes, really!)

This detail on the 1/32 scale spitfire is lacking and yet is very prominent when looking at the windscreen of the real aircraft. See photo.
Given that the armoured glass is 2” thick this scales down to 1/16”  which converts to 1.6 mm. Given that the thickness of the existing screen in the kit is 0.5 mm then the added glass needs to be 1.1 mm thick.
I found suitable sheet plastic in a drawer divider, this was polished, then cut to shape using the kit windscreen mask as a template. The surrounding frame was made up from stock plastic card with the added detail of the securing bolt housings made up from semi circular strip.
Finally the frame was airbrushed black, the actual screen given a coat of Future with the smallest amount of ‘Tamiya Clear Blue’ added to give a very slight tint.
The screen is now held in the kit frame with ‘Formula 560’.
The final effect will not to apparent until the model is painted etc. In the meantime I’m working on the ignition wiring for the Merlin!!!!

I spoke to Derek at Eileen's Emporium and he gave me some advice so I bought a dedicated low temp soldering iron, the solder and flux. The only problem is joining weighty pieces because there is not enough heat to bring everything up to temp. Any way you'll see the results soon, hopefully!

Many of you will be aware that I also paint pictures so I thought you might all be interested in the model I'm building of a corner of my studio. Just waiting for the the 'Model' to turn up! If you were listening at the last meeting there was a discussion about Low Temp Soldering, well the stool is my first attempt!

Are you going to use the etched accessory set on this vehicle? The kit plastic bits look very heavy to me.

Well, I won't go into the lighting conditions when I took the photo but I will say they were all closer to the standard chip when viewed with the MK 1 Eyeball and Extracrylix was considerably closer when new although it has a satin finish.
Will MZ have any left in their sale?
