Further to the art work for the Skywarrior here is the kit box. The later boxing which shows a remarkable similarity to the Advent Boxing!

Just to add a bit more detail: A 1/84th scale kit of the 'A3D Skywarrior' H241 was added to the range in 1957. It had folding wing tips and fin was then in moulded pale blue plastic. I have attached a copy of the original artwork, by Leynnwood, which I suppose emphasised the folding wing aspects of the kit.

Modelling Projects / Bristol Fighter

Last week I completed the 1/48th Bristol Fighter. It's the Eduard kit and rigged mainly with E Z Line. The shorter runs I finished off with stretched sprue.

Modelling Projects / Never throw anything away!
« on: September 19, 2017, 11:08:45 AM »
Well, I have finally finished the AZ Kit of the Amy Johnson's Gipsy Moth. Not really an easy build but I'm happy(ish) with the result. I have put a snap of the model on the projects page to illustrate the practice of never throwing anything away. The 'Plans' on which the model is posed are from 'Aeromodeller' August 1958, which I have carefully kept over the years because I Knew they would be useful at some time!

Modelling Projects / Re: A model of local interest

Just to bring you up to date. The fuselage has now been painted and the decals applied. These have worked well and are suitable thin and yet dense enough to cover the green paint. I shall now attach the lower wings using a brass spar to give the required strength.

Modelling Projects / A model of local interest
« on: June 09, 2017, 08:19:41 AM »
Started a model of the DH Gipsy Moth a last week. It's 1/48th scale by A model, a bit rough around the edges.
Having looked at the construction I decided to build it in sections, this would not only allow for an easier 'air- brushing' job with little masking required but also the individual assemblies such as the cowlings can be cleaned up once assembled. Check that various items, such as the motor, can be inserted afterwards.
I'll bring it along on Wednesday.

Modelling Projects / Another project with over-painted insignia

Yet another project which requires the overpainted/faded effects. At least this time it's a Spitfire. It will be at the next meeting, no prizes for guessing the subject!

Just to let you see a late stage of my Airfix 1/48th P40 build. Still has the decals and another layer of paint to go. What will it be? Hopefully you will find out at the next meeting.

What I meant to show was how just a small, precise area could be cleaned of paint in a matter of minutes. Also brilliant for cleaning brushes.

Modelling Projects / Strippers

Now that I have your attention I will refer back to a conversation last Sunday at Huddersfield. Several members are discussing the best way to strip acrylic paint from a model. One favoured method was to paint the model in a product like 'Modelstrip' and leave overnight in a poly bag. A method for small areas is to use 'Purisol', available from Hannants. This can be painted on with precision using a brush, even neater if you use masking tape, and then cleaned off with a damp cotton bud. I have attached a couple of photos to show it being used on a cockpit transparency. You will see that it has cleaned off at least 5 coats of paint leaving perfect surface. There are, unfortunately, some spatters on the inside!

Modelling Projects / Re: Modelling the Spitfire I

I think it must be about 45 now but some were built from old kits and quite a long time ago, so I wouldn't really put them on the table now. Since becoming a member of the B & W Club my standards of modelling and research have improved vastly!!!!

Thought I ought to use this forum again after last nights little talk.

Those who looked carefully at the Spitfire I on the table will have noted the overpainted RWBY roundels on both the fuselage and upper wing positions. This is how I did it; the fuselage was just a yellow disc which was then over-sprayed, whilst the wings had RWBY roundel transfers applied then over-sprayed. Note the sharp demarcation between the DE and DG as I was trying to depict the possible hand painting out of the yellow and blue of the original roundels.
