Looking in the loft for the next parts I need to work on the Varyag ( don't shout at me Haddock, it is being worked on ) and found this Tamiya KV2 tank.
John will be happy, it is going to be placed in a ditch and very very well rusted. Some of the parts like tow cable, machine gun etc will be removed and then on with the rusting. A couple of figures from the MiniArt Soviet villagers will be placed in the diorama alongside an old grave from when the tank was destroyed, hence the title "Respect for the Fallen"
-
How long ago did you build that?
-
About 30 to 40 years ago
-
About 30 to 40 years ago
Nearly your age then?
-
Yes if you add them together - hohohohho
-
Sorry Bob but this is what you do to a tank when you are a ship modeler - hohohoho
-
There's several photos of KV2s in ditches on line (the Russians must have been lousy drivers) and there's also one of a knocked out vehicle stranded in a river so you could have used both your genres!!!
-
Let's see what you can do with this one then Martin.
-
Go on then....amaze me or scare me, I'm never sure which it is going to be!
-
Base coat of rust added
-
How long's it been in the river?
-
No river just a damp ditch Chris
-
Damp ditch under construction - will fasten it down and then carve out some more before adding some acrylic sides and plaster for the top soil.
Might try to make some top soil from crushed tea leaves and PVA glue, will give it a try and if no good go to plan B.
-
Make a bigger ditch!
You can never have too big a ditch.
-
That's the final size Zak - acrylic surrounds made and fastened together. When its dry and solid will start to fill it in.
-
Looks like a tray of vanilla ice-cream to me!
-
Don't think I will have an ice cream if I visit you again - hohohohoho
-
Is that some sort of foam you are using for the ditch Martin?
-
Its some insulating foam my friend Richard used when sorting his garage out , carves nice with a sharp edge unlike expanded poly.
-
Looks like a tray of vanilla ice-cream to me!
Its changed to chocolate ice-cream just for you Haddock. Really its ground tea leaves mixed with water and when its was a paste, PVA glue added. Will see how it is when its dry - that is if Haddock doesn't come in and eat it all - hohohohoho
-
Looks like a mutant Oreo!!!
-
I like the red paint.
Bob c
-

Bob c
I suppose it is a reddish brown.
-
Looks like Christmas cake now!
-
Is she not feeding you enough - you seem to have food on the brain, ice cream chocolate cake, what next ??????? hohohohohoho
-
Some green added to the mud - NOW what food does it remind you of ??????
Tank tracks also removed - think it looks more abandoned without tracks.
-
Have some tracks on, but as if they have come off.
-
So Zak, you want me to be off the tracks, is that the same as being off the rails ?????
-
So Zak, you want me to be off the tracks, is that the same as being off the rails ?????
Both apply equally in your case!
-
Will take up your suggestion - will have the tracks removed from the top set (stbd side off the tank) and broken and folded under on the other side, thanks for the idea.

Don't know what it resembles now but it looks quite appetising.
Haddock.
-
Somebody MUST be hungry.
-
It looks fantastic!
-
See what 'Lockdown' do's for you.....
Even Martin's grass looks appealing.
Bigkev
-
Sorry again Bob - not only have I hacked great big holes in the tank, am now making it look like it has thrown its track as well.
-
Love the pegs again an essential modelling item.
-
How can you do any job without a hammer and pegs !!!!!
-
Sorry again Bob - not only have I hacked great big holes in the tank, am now making it look like it has thrown its track as well.
I can feel a bit of track bashing coming on...
-
The headstone nearing completion just needs the red star in the circle - now can I make one that small or will it just be paint ????
The helmet will have the stick removed and a flower sticking out of the hole - seen this in a photo, not sure if it was posed or natural but it looked good and was very poignant.
-
Decided that I will use 2 figures from the MiniArt Soviet Villagers set - will use the very small boy and the older lady on the right of the box picture
-
No zombies then?
-
Sorry Chris but no zombies -- are you missing them ???????
-
No. You just have a reputation to keep up.
-
What have I started !!!!!!
-
Hi Msea,
Zombie Czar sounds about right.

I watched a German film dubbed into English last night about Stalingrad, very atmospheric from which you'll have to tatty the peasants clothes up a lot and grey was the derigeur colour. Re tank tracks I use pieces of foam to get the sag between the rollers and KV2s had a heck of a sag!!!

A bit like Msea's belly.
Into the shelter now, Msea retribution incoming......

Incoming on the way !!!!!!

Headstone fitted to the grave - working on the damaged helmet with flower.
Second photo shows some various rust colours on the tank and silver on the large welds ( just for Haddock the welds on the main armour plate are silver because of the high chromium content in these welds the other weld made using just bog standard welding )
When all dry some chipping medium and original green paint cover, then lots of washes and pigments.

Hope the welded area was correctly pre-heated, we don't want any cracks to appear!!
-
It is all far too high tech for me.
-
Looking forward to seeing this finished.

Me, too!

Helmet and flower added to the grave - that's all that's been done over the last 2 days, back giving me a lot of trouble at the moment.
-
Sorry to hear about your back, hope it improves.
Nice grave -if that is the right thing to say about a grave?
-
Thanks Zak - back improving a little. Yes what do you say about a grave.
-
Well tendered usually does it for graves. Re your back, you've spent too much leaning forward modelling. You old people should go to Shackleton's you know!! Either that or get the Memsahib to walk up and down on it!!!!
-
All looking very nice.
Go easy on that back Martin.
Its a Hard game, this modelling...
Andy.
-
Thanks Andy - yes not doing a lot and the back is starting to get a little better.
Using a lot of naughty nautical language to try and get my air brush working again at 100%.
-
Looking good Martin. Take care and do things slowly!
-
Hope your back is improving
Model is coming on well!

The two figures have now been put together - priming and painting next.

That is one sulky looking child - who could it be?
-
Could it be someone not too tall?
Bigkev
-
I don't know - but I do know that Kevin is in trouble - hohohohoho

Who's that then?

Some Tamiya animals made to give the diorama a more after the war feel.

War Pigs? - it is a number by Black Sabbath
-
Pigs were used by the Romans in some boattles I believe.
-
Now I am interested - how did they use them ??????
-
Now I am interested - how did they use them ??????
Watch Hannibal Lecter films for some ideas.
-
Never seen one - not my type of film.
-
Didn't Frank Zappa or Captain Beefheart have a song called 'China Pig'? I know the Beatles had 'Piggies', but I digress......
-
Now I am interested - how did they use them ??????
I think they covered them in bitumen and set them alight and were expected to run into the enemy lines!!!!!
-
Oh my!!!! Bit strange though supplying the enemy with BBQ pork ribs and crackling?

Could these be the early forefathers 'Deliveroo'
Bigkev
-
Yes Kevin it was pig to elephant delivery service -- or that is what I have read (some say it was only in one battle and it was not the Romans doing it - but who knows, we could ask Zak I think he was around at the time - hohohoho) it was supposed to frighten the elephants and make them turn round and trample their own troops, that was the idea.

Who ever thought of that scenario made a 'Pig's Ear' of it.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Pork Life?
-
A coat of chipping medium and then a top coat of green, soon to be mainly removed.
-
I had forgotten all about this.
The inspiration has obviously returned I presume?

Yes been slowly working on things for the shopping center - but most time spent on other things none modelling.
Was reading the new "Damaged weathered & worn" special magazine by Fine Scale Modeler magazine, and as she who must be obeyed was watching a chick flik on television decided to get some more done on this model as well as the shop fronts. Was going into the garden today to fix next doors fence again but it is wet and cold and think I will stay in and do some jobs in the house and then some more on the tank. Some paint removed and tank fastened into place - now needs some more mud and grass round the tracks,to make it part of the ground not floating above it.
-
Looking very good Martin.
-
It's got more chips than McCains, sorry I couldn't resist!!
Funny how our other halves tend to dictate our modelling output. Tracy is getting in the mood to watch crappy American B Xmas movies so that will mean more time modelling, so it's not such a bad thing really?

Every cloud has a silver lining, Chris!
Seize the moment, I say.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Lots of work gone into this build. Looking the part now but nothing a tin of Hammerite wouldn't sort out.
Andy.
-
It looks great! Well done.
-
Sorry to upset you Red but have now started on the figures have put the base coat of colours on the figures - had an idea about using one of those face covering sections you see on TV so people can't be identified so you can't see the mess I make of the painting :) :) :) :)
-
That looks like my Mum... ???
-
Think it looks like most peoples mum's.
-
Well you can blame IKEA - I should be painting walls putting furniture together and sorting out new flooring - but its back to trying to finish off some models.
Have we decided who the little sulky boy looks like yet ? Was going to do the lady's top just plain colour but have decided to try some embroidery on it - if it doesn't work will just overpaint as plain.
-
I can't guess.
-
Some more work done
-
Very nice Martin. The cardigan is not as bright as your shirt.
-
Is anything Chris - YoHoHo - that one is because Sunday is "Pirates Day" don't forget the RUM ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D :o :o
-
Well sorting out more bits and bobs and found the box with all the figures I needed to finish off a couple of models - this included the pigs and geese to finish off this model.
-
Another blast from the past!
-
Is that ME or the model - hohhohoho >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

It looks like you've been going through the loft Martin.

Better tha going through the roof!
-
No just sorting out things that had been put away when I redid my room - stuff in the loft, garage etc
-
The wonderful world of part finished projects!!
-
Well, they're not on the shelf of shame!
-
I have lots of both.
