This one I am intending to put in a small diorama. Yes both Martin and Dave got me fired up with dioramas. The kit is the Italeri 1/72nd kit. I have already cut the doors out of the starboard side and filled the hinges on the port side. The aircraft in Vietnam were flown without doors. I have a couple of figures to put in but the crew chief is a little big (or chopper too small) so I'll have to decide how to attack that problem. PSP acquired and I need to make some sandbags for a revetment.
This project could be a little slow.
-
Slow is fine - it will be great to watch it develop.
-
Diorama - great, I look forward to your progress.
-
Hey! I'm the slow one in this club.
Andy.

I've had a lot more practice than you two!
-
Cockpit just about done. Pilot and fire extinguisher added. Amour added to seats. Gun mechanism improved in thr rear compartment.
-
Looking good Chris - what type of diorama will it go into ????

I expect to do some sand bagged revetments with psp on the ground. I'll need to think about some additional figures maybe. Don't know yet.
-
So far so good.
Andy.

Yeah, went and broke it trying to fit it in the fuselage properly. Had to do another mod to get a proper fit. Why do I work with such small stuff?

Hi Chris,
I built one of these a few years ago, it is a tiny airframe, needing the manipulation of fingers more suited to a Sci-fi film.
But although small, I'm sure you will turn out something 'special'.
Hang on in there, Chris, your next model could be a 'Chinook' or something similar in size to make up for this one.
Bigkev
-
Yes you may be right Kevin. Some larger ones to come.
-
You takes your choice: 'compact and bijou' or 'big and ungainly' (which take up more storage space!!!!)
It's looking good Chris keep up the good work.
-
What a tiny kit, looking forward to see the finished helicopter.
-
Hoefully it will be in a small diorama when I finish it.
-
Size of diorama now determined. It's about 14cms square. Here is a picture of the prepared base before any colouring or clean-up.
-
Is the base pre-prepared? Bought? Homemade?
-
Homemade - a bit of plywood with filler spread on the top.
To colour it next.

Excellent, home made, typically Yorkshire.

Through and through like Bridlington rock.

Yorkshire Men rule - now shall we all shout "HOW MUCH" - hohoho

It's looking good. How are you going to colour the base? sprayed Acrylic?
-
I,ve got some red earth pigments to use. So far just looks like a dark brown.
-
Hi Chris,
In your hands, this has the start of being an excellent helicopter diorama.
I watch and appreciate with interest.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Well here is the basic diorama laid out with the base painted. I've taken the inspiration from a photo I found which has the mix of barrels, sand bags and ballast filled woodwork. Got quite a few sand bags to make yet.
-
Hi Chris,
Very nice to see this progress.
Need to check the clearance for the rotors?
Bigkev
-
Starting to look great - will it have any figures/zombies in it ??????
-
Looking good Chris.
Andy.
-
I hope to have some figures in it - no zombies though.

If you don't know by now its obviously too late.

Diorama base partly done.
Used bals wood, Das clay for the sandbags and Redog Models for the barrels.
-
You're getting there.
-
I like it
-
Looking good Chris.
-
The revetment just about complete.
-
Coming along.
-
Will the zombie be inside or outside the perimeter wall Chris ??????

Poor Martin, he needs serious help.
-
I need help like a hole in the head - ohhh I have one of those - hohohohohoh
-
That's why your brain cell, keeps falling out of your head.
Would you like some 'Milliput' to fix it??
Bigkev
-
Thank you Kevin - the modelers answer to everything "sort it with Milliput" - hohoho -
Just to get you thinking, do you have enough Milliput ??????
-
I've got plenty of household filler if that's any good Martin?
-
Thanks Chris you are ever helpful - hohoho
-
Well here is my first diorama with much inspiration from Dave and Martin. It has been quite different modelling bits I have not done before. I have enjoyed doing it. I have one or two ideas for future diorams now. If anyone can offer improvements I'm all ears.
-
I like it Chris, nice work.
-
Neat. Could we have the odd blade of grass please.
Haddock.
-
A great little diorama Chris, well done.
-
Its good to see the helo in a diorama - shows it to its best advantage - well I think so but who am I to say anything !!!!!
-
Excellent Chris.
Posed very nicely.

Yes I thought about putting some vegetation on but would have been out of place. All the photos of this type of subject show lots and lots of bare earth.
-
Yes Chris all the photos I have seen have been just mud/soil - you could have done a lighter shade inside. With lots of people standing/walking on the mud , it would have made it a lot flatter and changed the colour a little - BUT i still think your diorama is great.
-
The odd Coke can and cardboard box of rations, a machine gun.
Like you it always looks red soil/ mud, the odd bit of vegetation growing by the sandbags maybe?

I did think about adding some grass round the bottom of the sandbags - modification A maybe.
There tended to be no rubbish (sorry Martin) round the helos - could be ingested by the engines.
-
As you know I use oil paint and there is a Burnt Umber(Green Shade).
I use this as a wash over bare earth and it adds a bit of interest to
the ground.
-
Looks really good Chris.
Bob c
-
Thanks for the tip Howard I have some Burnt Umber in my stash.
-
Yes I've used some of the Humbrol dark green and dark brown washes on the oil drums. Maybe I'll try some washes on the ground. Need to source some grass now.

This shows the helicopter off really well.
Well done.
Andy.

Just for you Tony - modification A - a bit of grass, two bits actually. Can't overdo it.
-
Very effective, if sparse.
Keep the chairman happy.

I feel very humble now.

Ate you from a Dickens novel then - hohohohhoho

I was having another "senior moment", it is Raw Umber, which is a bit "dirtier looking"
than the Burnt variety. Sorry about that.

Ah, senior moments I have quite a few.
Actually now refined them to CRAFT moments.

You're the leader of the group Kevin. We are probably all members now.

You can definitely count me in!!!
