Sorting out what to do at the next playday and decided to do this model.
First many many thanks Andy for the Italeri dock, when you gave me it I thought it would be great with the MiniArt set of Soviet Naval Troops that I had in the stash, and a ship alongside - then the trouble started :-\ :-\ The dock is toooooo wide for my display case, when it has the ship and dock fitted, so first thing will be to split it length ways and that makes 2 models, then the size is so large think I will have to sort out a lot more figures to go on the dockside. Then it really started what ship to do alongside at 1/35 scale - yes it is going to have to be scratch built, so out with the books and finding one about the correct size.
It could be a G-5 class motor torpedo boat or either a BKA 1124 or BKA 1125 (but have made one of them in the past see web site) - THEN I found that in 1916 the Tsarist government had 9 armoured river gunboats built at Boecker & Co in Reval and some still active at the battle of Stalingrad during the Great Patriotic War as the Russian call it. Now as you all know - hohohho - Russian ships are renamed a lot of times and also rebuilt to modernize them over a very long life - so at the moment am trying to follow the time line for the boats and find good building plans. Before anybody asks the second section of dock with the rail lines is being used for a scratch built American "Zippo" brown water monitor during the Vietnam War - well that the plan at the moment
-
This looks interesting.
-
Should be good.
-
Base and frame work to hold the dock secure now made and dock glued to this. It looks longer every time I look at it ??? ??? ??? ???

Remember, its not all about size.
-
I am saying nothing ::) ::) ::)
-
Started picking out the bricks -- only about another 800 to go :P :P :P :P
-
Bricking it?
-
HoHoHo - was painting more bricks listening to my music when what came on but - Pink Floyd "Another brick in the wall" - - now waiting for the funny captions ::) ::) ::)

Sorry all out of funny captions!
-
Never - will the world still spin on its axis if that ever happens - hohohhoho 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
Started picking out the bricks -- only about another 800 to go :P :P :P :P
You like the challenge Martin.
-
All I have got is that song "another brick in the wall" going round and round and round in my head ??? ??? ??? ???
-
All I have got is that song "another brick in the wall" going round and round and round in my head ??? ??? ??? ???
What about needing an education, especially in your case!
-
I will just say "teacher leave us kids alone" - hohohohoh
-
That's EVERY brick painted - next the ironwork and then 50 shades of grey for the stone blocks - then washes to tone it down and tie it all together
-
What patience Martin!
-
NO Chris just good old bloody mindedness
-
All the stone blocks picked out in assorted shades of grey from very dark to light and some blue ones as well. Looked a mess untill 3 coats of very thinned down medium grey painted over them to tone down and bring them together.
-
Looks good.
-
Looking good, no what about the mortar between the bricks and stones?
(Ha, Ha - got you!)
-
This is coming together nicely. I like the tip re grey washes as I've a building to work on and it's not our cottage!!!!
-
First - Francis wins the prize - for spotting that some fool has put the last couple of photos of this model in the Grafskaya string :'( :'( :'( :-\ :-\ :-\
So the wooden rubbing posts are now painted and dry brushed and fitted to the model. Before somebody tells me there should be a green line at the waterline of the dock and posts - they will be added when all bits are fitted and the line will be one line not several different levels if I did them before assembly
-
Sheep use rubbing posts but won't they drown here?
-
Its for "sea sheep" - hohohho
-
Ewe would know!
-
"Baa" humbug and that's from Beernadet or her friend Baartholomu
-
Where is larry the lamb?
-
Where is larry the lamb?
Showing your age now!
-
I have read about Larry the Lamb in history books Chris - so will say no more - hohohhoho
-
Wooden frame made for the ship and when a little more sanding has taken place will skin it with plastic sheets ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I have read about Larry the Lamb in history books Chris - so will say no more - hohohhoho
Yeah, right!
-
It's looking good.
Bob c
-
First of many sections of plastic skin added to the wooden frame, when dry and solid will add the second section of the deck and then trim to size. Then its the fun of adding the ships sides to the ship shape >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
Uh oh, some real modelling going on here!!
-
Uh oh, some real modelling going on here!!
No Chris just glue and hack - hohhoho
-
A good start Martin.
-
Both sections of the deck added and end sections of the ships side in place. The wood block on the center of the deck is the start of the midships house - now your question what is the hermesetas tube doing in this photo 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
A very good question Martin.
-
Yes Chris BUT what is the answer hohohoho
-
A start made on the wheelhouse - sides made in card to check size and then cut from 0.7 plastic and the door marked and cut out on the first side.
Will make and fasten sides and top to the wood block , then add any detail inside the wheelhouse before adding the front section - that's the plan ;) ;) ;)
-
Tea has taken longer than "she who must be obeyed" thought it would so have been able to fasten both sides onto the wood block and also finf the steering wheel - amazing what you find in craft shops ::)
-
Is it a big chimney? A leftover from Drax?
-
Looking good Martin. I still have no answer to your question.
-
All will be revealed in the shake of a m/c guns power - hohohho
-
More work done on the ships hull and the 2 holes drilled for the ford and aft machine guns - now that's sweet hohohhoho
-
Well that's one way to make turrets, impressed. But then again I easily am..........
-
It's amazing what you can find in your "don't throw it away it might come in handy in the future" box ::) ::) ::)
-
Filler added to the stern of the ship, will smooth off when dry. Also the wheelhouse has now had its front and armoured window made - MUST remember to add all the bits and bobs inside the wheelhouse BEFORE fastening the front section into place permanently :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Bits and bods added think it needs some information sheets on the bulkheads and maybe a copy of Pravda for the crew to read ;D ;D ;D
-
Very nice bits and bobs......
-
It's amazing what you can find in your "don't throw it away it might come in handy in the future" box ::) ::) ::)
Looking really good.
I have a room full of "Don't throw it away!"
-
Very nice detail Martin.
-
Thanks for the comments.
Primer on the wheelhouse - so its now back to cleaning up the bad joints that have been shown up by the primer :-[ :-[ :-[
-
Thanks Kev G-J for the bits from the magazine how to build the Bismark. The scale is 1/200 so will show the boats upside down on the 1/35 scale dock so they fit in, will also drill out the props and rust them up and make a pile with the anchors.
-
Bits and bobs painted and some chipping medium on the boats - will remove more paint later
-
Crate made to put on the dockside with one of the props inside - will have the lid made but place it alongside NOT nailed in place so you can't see what is inside ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Large box under construction - have looked up the Russian word for up and will add this to the box with arrows - guess which way up I will place the box :o :o :o
-
Large box under construction - have looked up the Russian word for up and will add this to the box with arrows - guess which way up I will place the box :o :o :o
Upside down of course!
-
Correct as always hohoho - bit more work done
-
Next 2 sections of the ships sides added
-
Reminds me of that program about getting rich from oil.
"Black Gold, Texas T"
Yes, The Clampets!
-
HoHoHo - I only transported the oil didn't get rich from having my own oil well - have you got a well on the allotment ::) ::) ::)
-
HoHoHo - I only transported the oil didn't get rich from having my own oil well - have you got a well on the allotment ::) ::) ::)
No just a bath!
-
Will make NO comments about when you used it last - hohohohhoho ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Crates look good Martin.
-
First set of figures under construction to go on the dock side
-
Are they going to be guarding the ship?
-
No just marching past - have some NKVD troops to do the guarding >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
Section added to the port side of the boat bow - have used thinner plastic (0.38mm the rest that was 0.7mm on the stern and sides) so will have to use filler to get a smooth shape at the join.
-
Hatch and stove pipe vents under construction
-
Three opening hatches fasten to the deck behind the wheelhouse, next job to make hinges and handles.
-
Hull now fully skinned - will smooth out the shape when all the filler is dry and solid
-
First gun shield made - still to clean up all the edges and then prime
-
Gun barrels and mount under construction
-
A trip out to York yesterday and picked up the set of MiniArt rail wheels - asked about cost of and truck last time and decided that being a good Yorkshireman would get the wheels and make my own, never go down the easy route - hohhohoho.
Now its looking on line for size and types of trucks and wagons - have wheels to make 6 wagons, all for ?10 and you get the springs as well, just the body, buffers and hooks to make :( :( :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Wheels sorted out I think - thanks Zak for the info.
Change of plan for the ships on this second section of Andy's long dock - it was going to be a 1960 American zippo gunboat but have decided to change it to 1946/7/8 French gunboats - they used anything they could get there hands on for boats and weapons so this will give me more lee way and the rivet counters can't say "its wrong" it should have 7 bolt holes not 6 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
More work done on the 76mm guns
-
You are really getting on with this.
On the right track, wheelie good, will it be plain sailing?
-
No you are wrong - its a MOTOR gunboat , so NO sails - hohhohoho
-
Gunboat now primed and only about 75,367 blemishes to fill and smooth :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
The dock frame has now been made for the second of Andy's long dock models - front section to be plastered before adding the plastic dock top, with the railway lines included and then adding the block lines into the plaster :P :P :P
-
The first of many many many filling and sanding sessions :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
You've cracked on with this Martin. Looking very good indeed.
-
All the bits and bobs added to the guns and then primed
-
Trial run with the gun and wheelhouse in place
-
Work started on the 2 machine gun positions
-
Ex-poly added to the front of the dock, when solid will add a coat of polyfiller to then scribe into large solid blocks.
The last photo is NOT cheese - when cut hope they will turn into portholes
-
A coat of polyfiller/paint/glue added to the front and top of the ex-poly - now to let it dry and then clean up and scribe the blocks into it
-
Great work so far. Pity you didn't put out a request for the wagon wheels I have a load in my stash as years ago I started to make an armoured train before the idea went on (and still is on) hold. So if anybody else needs them you know where to ask.
-
Wheel come to you if we need any then Chris - hohoohho - think its time for rum ::) ::) ::)
-
Connection made between the springs and the wheel axle - now to go and find some more 4mm square tube :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ and before the "railway rivet counters" tell me its not correct, remember I DON'T CARE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
excellent work, proper modelling.
Bob c
-
Nice axle boxes.
-
Thanks
-
Very nice Martin.
-
Base frame made for the truck and a bed of coffeeeeeeeee sticks added, they have then been coloured with water soluble pencils.
-
Springs fitted to the truck base and wheels placed into the axil box - all they need now is a cover on the bottom of the axil box to stop the wheels falling out - but doing this without gluing the axils to the axil box so they still turn and the truck runs on the rails OR its glue it all solid and don't have the truck being movable :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Looking good.
Even the axle boxes!
-
No 10 out of 10 and a gold star for me then :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
No 10 out of 10 and a gold star for me then :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Spooling not your strong point! My chill spucker is not working again!
-
Well as I say
dyslectia dislecia dyselectia bad spelling rules KO - :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Keep it moving.
-
Stone blocks on the front of the dock marked with a scriber and the 2 top sections with the rails now glued in place. When dry and solid will prime and then pick out the blocks in different shades of grey
-
First job patch in between the plastic dock top and the plaster front of the dock - before some clown asks the bit on the right has been done - hohohhoho :P :P :P
-
Main guns added to to round base plate and he m/c guns picked out in gunmetal paint
-
Small hinges made for the side doors on the wheelhouse block - now to fit them :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Looking very nice Martin. Great detail.
-
Thanks Chris - hinges now fitted and the wheelhouse doors hung
-
Looking good.
-
Wheels painted and also the frame - wheels fitted into the AXLE box and bottom cover fasten into place ( needs trimming and painting before somebody reminds me ) and YES the wheels still go round
So we can all sing "the wheels on the truck go round and round" next playday - hohohho
-
Buffers ( or would you like buffoon, Zak ) under construction ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Wheels painted and also the frame - wheels fitted into the AXLE box and bottom cover fasten into place ( needs trimming and painting before somebody reminds me ) and YES the wheels still go round
So we can all sing "the wheels on the truck go round and round" next playday - hohohho
Or 4 wheels on my wagon?
-
You can sing either one Chris - but let us all get inside Cass Hall before you make it rain - hohhoho
Postman has just been and delivered some Hornet Heads from Historex, have some British WW2 tank riders on order, so will change the heads to make them fit in with the 1947/8/9 ship dock in Vietnam.
Now who will keep Howard looking the other way so he doesn't see how bad I will end up painting the faces :o :o :-\ :-\ :o :o
-
Side of the wagon now under construction
-
Sides added to the truck - a little bit of tidying up to do and then make the opening door with hinges - now off for food and maybe a drink ;D ;D ;D
-
Excellent scratch building!
-
Thanks but it looks better in the photo than actual - but we live and learn, see how the next one goes ??? ??? ???
-
Front loading door under construction with 2 hinges - before anybody asks NO they will not be operational , just for show
-
Door fitted and now to try and find the box of oil drums in the stash, to go inside the truck :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Excellent Martin.
-
Rails painted and a start made on picking out the bricks - only several hundred to go :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Every last brick now painted - so now off to bed 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
Yeah, I bet that put you to sleep!
-
Very therapeutic!
-
Yeah, I bet that put you to sleep!
Very therapeutic!
Yes or could have been the rum - hohhoho
-
A coat of Pledge and then a Flory wash of dark dirt - will let it dry for a bit and then remove 70% of it
-
Looking at images of landing craft that could be converted into gunboats on the web. Made a card mock up to get size and tried in place next to the dock. Before the rivet counters get out the old slide rule and tell me its the wrong size I KNOW - but its a conversion done in Vietnam so they could have changed anything, also I don't care, it a model for FUN not an accurate museum piece >:( >:( >:( >:(
Will now have to remove a section of the wood so that it sits down in the water because you can see the base of the boat and it does not want to be at sea level - now how deep shall I cut the hole :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
You are keeping busy.
-
"Idle hands" and all that type of comment - hohohhoho
-
You'll be upto Dave's building rate soon.
-
You'll be upto Dave's building rate soon.
NEVER or up to his standard of quality :P :P :P
-
The 6 main sections of the hull fastened together - when dry and solid, will clean up and make a start on the deck and the wheelhouse, then the fun begins trying to fill all the holes and get rid of the blemishes :P :P :P :P
-
Ah well at least it'skeeping you off the streets!!!!!
-
Yes Chris and also away from humans - hhohohoho
Inner hull section with strengthening angle bars added - next job a box section to place the 20mm flavierling 38
-
Impressive Martin.
-
Thanks Chris - gun mounting box now made and a trial run with the gun center section in place
-
More bits added to the boat and a coat of primer
-
Looking good.
-
Jerry cans and 2 racks made and primed
-
All painted just a little dirt and rust to add and then box them up for filling for the truck
-
The devil is in the detail.
-
Yes i agree ;D ;D ;D
-
Any rubbish in the diorama?
-
Any rubbish in the diorama?
Only the builder (Martin)!
-
JUST YOU WAIT - retribution is on the way >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
A lot of work done during playday 15 - the 20mm flakvierling nearly done
-
Think that's all the bits added and painted to the gun - just added the photos and seen that the 2 loader seats are still to be added :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Looks good.
-
Work done on the figures for the dock - now you can't say they are armless - hohohohoho
-
False bow fitted to the front of the landing craft
-
Some work done on the figures
-
I need sunglasses!
-
The English soldier has had all belts and straps removed and his posture changed to be more upright - yes I will fill the hole in his stomach when he is dry and solid. When all clean and smooth he will also get the new French head with white kepi and will be sitting on the 20mm flakvierling seat - that's if i can get him to fit :o :o :o
-
Not a zombie then?
-
No Chris a Frenchman 8) 8) 8)
-
No comment.
-
Its not my fault Zak, that Chris doesn't know the difference between a Frenchman and a Zombie - hohohhoho - sorry to all out French readers ;) ;)
The 2 figures have now been primed and the hole enlarged to take the hornet heads. So now to decide what colour to do the working uniforms, I don't have to worry about the "kepis blanc" as that will be white with a black visor
-
Look like zombies to me.
-
Should have gone to specsavers - hohohhohohho
-
A start made on the French heads - now can anybody see that the officer with the beard has had his hat painted with white , while the rest have had offwhite - NO I can't either ??? ??? ??? ???
-
You must have a guillotine handy, you revolutionist!
-
You should call me Maximillien Robespierre, but you can just call me Max - hohohho
-
I thought we could call you Betty or is that Al? Yep you're right you can't tell the difference in the whites. I have a future build planned using off-white so I hope it shows up better on that!!!
-
No can't tell the difference.
-
Ladders made and fitted to the gun section and inside the hold - now had a coat of Klear and then the FUN job of adding RUST - hohohho ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
A start made on the rusting - only another 13,000 rust spots to do :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Rusting looks good Martin.
-
A start made on the rusting - only another 13,000 rust spots to do :-\ :-\ :-\
Is that all?
Best get busy then!
-
Decided to give the hull a wash/filter of black/white/raw sienna/burnt umber oil paints, before doing more rust.
-
Decided to give the hull a wash/filter of black/white/raw sienna/burnt umber oil paints, before doing more rust.
Looks effective.
-
Looking good Martin.
-
Thanks, just takes a lot of time and you know how I always want to just get on with it and finish and go onto the next idea in my head :o :o :o :o
-
Thanks, just takes a lot of time and you know how I always want to just get on with it and finish and go onto the next idea in my head :o :o :o :o
Right!
-
Only time I am slow is on playdays - and that because I have lots and lots and lots of chatting to do ;D ;D ;D
-
The shading/staining looks really good.
-
Palm fronds under construction to be placed on the wheelhouse roof when painted
-
Palm fronds under construction to be placed on the wheelhouse roof when painted
As camouflage?
-
No Chris - to keep the heat out of the wheelhouse :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Next one under construction is a motor patrol junk. Size sorted out with some card and wood block, then transferred to 2mm sheet for the waterline and top deck. Then the fun sorting out the bow and stern post and the boats sides :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Top and bottom cut out and using paper guide now shaped to correct side
-
No junk tactics in this build.
Watching with interest Msea.
Cheers,
Kevin
-
We wait with bated breath.
-
Ribs added to the top deck section
-
Ribs added to the top deck section
Are you using old credit cards?
-
No hotel door keys - if they take a swipe of your credit card - have been told it can stay on the card. So have decided to use them for another purpose - hohoho - also being a good Yorkshire man it saves money on plastic ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Top & bottom decks.ribs, and bow & stern posts fastened together. When dry and solid will start to cut the ribs to shape ad then skin with thin plastic for the outer hull.
-
Ribs trimmed to size and the side sections made in 0.38mm plastic and port side fastened at the center - when dry and solid will gradually fasten it down along the full length of the hull.
NOT doing my usual job of trying to do it all in one go, but doing it bit by bit ::) ::) ::) ::) :P
-
Impressive scratch building.
-
We will see if its the correct size & shape -- and if it ever goes together :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
You're getting there Martin. Looks like a lot of blood sweat and tears.
-
You're getting there Martin. Looks like a lot of blood sweat and tears.
Now didn't they have a hit with "Spinning Wheel"? [Blood, Sweat and Tears that is].
-

Now didn't they have a hit with "Spinning Wheel"? [Blood, Sweat and Tears that is].
I have heard about them by reading history books - hohohho
-
Didn't know you could read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Just pretend and then look at the pictures as you well know - hohohoho
Side fastened into place and then some extra glue and securing for the bow and stern sections
-
Progressing wonderfully, keep it up.
-
Thanks Chris - but keep needing a break - so on with some figures for a change and to let the boat go solid before doing the stbd side of the hull
-
Both sides of the boat now fitted
-
50cal machine gun post constructed for the bow, now to try and find the resin bolts to go on the corner to show the fastening of the base plate to the deck ??? ??? ??? :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Miracles have happened - found the resin bolts at first time of looking - now fitted and trial run with 50cal in place
-
60mm mortar put together and also a base plate to spread the force over the boats deck made - now will have to go and make some more resin bolts, used the last ones on the bow machine gun.
Before somebody asks the weapons are from the Tamiya US Infantry Weapons Set
-
Looking good, with proper modelling.
Bob c
-
Looking good, with proper modelling.
Bob c
Sorry Bob you must have me mixed up with somebody else - proper modelling - hohohhohohho
-
Excellent detail Martin.
-
Accommodation block under construction, the grab rails are made from 1.2mm bar for the long run and 0.5mm bar for the stanchions
-
Started to use colour on the ship and weapons
-
Back and top doors made to fit to the aft end of the accommodation block
-
Lots of real scratch building.
Great stuff.
-
Thanks - I was just going to put a material cover over the open door area at the back of the cabin, but decided to make wood doors ( not sure if this is accurate ) as I did not want to be bothered about having to make all the inside of the cabin.
-
It all looks very good Martin. Certainly proper modelling.
-
I agree with the above comments. It's great to see this comng along.
-
Nice steady progress.
-
Doors fitted to the cabin
-
Eye painted on the bow - that should open up all the eye jokes ;) ;) ;) ;)
-
Aye aye cap'n.
-
Eye painted on the bow - that should open up all the eye jokes ;) ;) ;) ;)
You mean, Nod, Nod, Wink, Wink?
Kevin
-
More work done on the boat - next job some wood sections to add to the hull side for fastening tyres to the boat side or the boat to the dock. Also have to make a winch and anchor to go behind the 50cal machine gun
-
Looking good Martin.
-
Decided to place the mortar to just ford of the cabin and making a bren gun on a stand to be used on the aft end of the boat
-
Trial run with all the parts
-
No Dhow - looking good, its not Junk anyway.
-
No Dhow - looking good, its not Junk anyway.
Thanks but Chris likes rubbish - as most of my models are - hohhohoho
-
How could I possibly say that about your models Martin?
-
No you wouldn't Chris but I would - hohhoho
-
All main items added to the boat - next some food and drink and people
-
Looking Shipshape Msea.
Will be interested to see what sort of figures will populate the Junk.
Kevin
-
British tank riders with hornet French heads with kepis on - to put it into the correct era - well that's the plan at the moment. As long as Howard doesn't look at the face painting I will be OK ??? ??? ??? ???
-
Looks good Martin.
-
Remember this from a long time ago - its the buffer for the rail wagon - only another 3 to go and then the coupling hooks and chain :-\ :-\ - at least it will keep me quiet and away from humans
-
The vents for the Russian gunboat are now under cleaning up. First thanks Chris for 3D production of the 8 vents ;D ;D ;D
First a hole has been drilled in the base and the first of many many many cleaning sessions on the striations on the vents, will give them a coat of primer and then get on with the job.
-
It?s all looking good Msea
Bob c
-
Hi Msea,
Those vents will certainly add to your model. Nice to have a good friend (Chris) who can produce them in 3D printing.
Coming along nicely,
Kevin
-
Yes all part of being in a good model club Kevin.
Holes drilled in the deck alongside the hull for the stanchions of the ships rails. Now to find the small beads to glue on the top for passing the top rail through.
-
First bead glued to the top of the stanchion - now let it go solid before adding the other 25 and threading the top rail through them all WITHOUT any off the beads falling off - :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
A glutton for punishment, aren't you?
-
Food glorious food - hohohohoho
-
A fair bit to do there Martin. Looking forward to the completed model.
-
Long wait I think Chris - but heyho it will get done sometime or other >:( >:( >:(
-
More patience than I have.
Bob c
-
All port side beads added and both lower rails in place - next another 13 beads to add to the stbd side and THEN put it aside to go solid before adding top rail all the way round - that's the plan but can I wait that long ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Patience Grasshopper!
-
Its only in the
dictonary diktonaarry diktanary that book with words in it in my house - hohohhoho
-
Go and lie down Martin, before you do the rest.
-
Top rail added as a double thread to show difference to the bottom rail. Whole hull and rails now primed - and only one bead came off but was easy to fit back into place :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
A lot of work there Martin. Getting there.
-
Long way to go but am enjoying the build ;D ;D ;D
-
Wheelhouse, guns and vents added to the boat - next job a couple of hatches then the mast and rigging.
-
Nice scratch building.
-
Nice work Martin.
-
Great work. Haddock would be pleased at how you're coming along.
-
Looking great Martin, that?s what the great master would say.
Bob c
-
Thanks all - if I could only get to 50% Haddock scale I would be more than happy

Three parts of the mast now made and a small hole drilled for the flag bar to pass through and then solder to make solid

Proper job.

Hi Msea,
Ah, caught out!
Have punished myself by saying "I really like Zombies" a hundred times..........
Kevin
-
Excellent scratch building Martin.
-
Work on the rigging under way
-
Amazing detail Martin.
-
All rigging fitted to the mast and the mast glued in place.
Now to let it sit and go hard , then make some eyelets to place on the deck and fasten the ends of the rigging to them - well that's the plan.
-
Is it knitting or knotting?
-
Will you be knitting or knotting us all beanie hats for Christmas seeing your so good at it.
Cheers Kevin
-
A good bit of macrame!
-
it's coming along nicely, are you starting a knitting SIG.

I think there is a coming together tomorrow night............
Good job I won't be there.
Kevin
-
It will be very quiet tonight as i will not be there either - hohhohoho
Rigging now fastened down just the flag to make and add the flag halyard
-
Very nautical.
-
Haddock would have pulled it to bits for the mistakes - but I am happy - the vents you made Chris look excellent, have improved the model no end
-
I am pleased that the vents met your requirements.
-
Glad you are pleased Chris - will have the next order ready soon hohohohho
-
Buffers and coupling fitted to each end of the wagon - BEFOR Zak tells me the couplings need a section of chain, the holes have been drilled now looking for large size chain, if not will make some.
-
Very nice, don't forget the tightening device or whatever it is.
-
A very neat work area.
Bob c

Very nice, don't forget the tightening device or whatever it is.
Being a Yorkshireman, a 'tightening device' will be easy to replicate for Msea.
Kevin
-
I thought the "tightening device" was what Biggles has on his wallet - hohhohoho
-
I though "Biggles flies undone"?
-
Talking about flies - I saw Biggles wallet open ONCE and moths flew out of it - hohohhoho
-
Nice work Martin.
-
Three wooden protection piles added to the dock and coat of brown sea to the base
-
Moorings made now to prime and then rust them up.
-
By Heck Lad, you've been busy.........
looking good.
Kevin
-
Fine work Martin.
-
Have you just rediscovered this?
-
Have you just rediscovered this?
No Zak you know me flutter here flutter there - when I stop enjoying doing a model, just move on and then come back to it when the mood takes me :P :P :P :P :P
Remember its for FUN not to have lots of finished models that you don't know what to do with. So make diaramas as they take a lot more time to do compaired to just making a plane or tank or ship ::) ::) ::)
-
Were you a juggler in your former life, keeping so many projects on the go at once, ......Amazing.
Kevin

I won't ask how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Rust added.
-
Have put some green oil paint along the waterline and was about to mark the position of the 2 boats and add some Gel between the boats and dock ( the area I would not be able to get after boats fitted) THEN LOOKED and thought what a clown.
Have not put any form of protection against the dock wall - so looked for old tyres but had none, so have decided to do what I have seen in some small ports in the north of the USA - wood beams hung from the top of the dock by rope.
-
Four wood sections under construction - top just cut wood, next down gouges and cuts in the wood, next down wire brushed and last one with some wood stain
-
Gel added to the back section of the water and the wooden protection blocks added to the dock side.
-
Two boats fastened in place when dry and solid will add some more paste to the waterline , to make the boats sit in the water not sit on top of it.
-
Coming together now.
Never seen the wooden blocks as protection of the jetty before. But they do look very realistic.
Nice work.
Kevin
-
Yes got the idea from small ports in USA - when the blocks get damged they just pull them up and replace with another log
-
Very nice work Martin. The 'rusty' bits look great.
-
Rust is the best think to do - nobody can say its wrong - rust comes in all types, shapes and shades - hohohho - rivet counters. ;D ;D ;D ;D
3 photos ship sitting on top of the water, next waterline started to be filled in and last the whole lot done - now would/will anybody have noticed - YES Haddock
-
Yes, I liked the work on the wooden blocks too.
-
Looks good Martin.
-
Thanks for the comments - a coat of brown paint on top of the paste on the waterline, next job a coat of gel to give it depth 8) 8) 8)
-
Looking good.
-
That water is really churned up with the boats, harbours I guess never have Blue waters in them.
Nice work,
Kevin
-
Have a guess why the Americans called the ships in Vietnam the "Brown Water Navy" - hohohho
-
Coat of gel now added top the water ( gives it depth and a bit of gloss ) its still wet near the boats waterline , thats why its white, will go clear as it dries.
Next job - on with the figures SORRY Howard - I do try, but you have seen the results, in my defence its a hobby for FUN and relaxation :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Great Martin. Mucky brown river water.
-
I thought they were docked near a Thames Water outlet, lol!!! Funnily enough we've been listening to the Rameses CD 'Space Hymns' this morning and an extra track is 'Muddy Water'. Spooky.................
-
Start made on the food to be loaded onto the ship - the set is the MiniArt veg and wooden crates
-
That's a nice touch to your diorama.
Look forward to seeing it finished.
Kevin
-
Very nice.
-
More work done on the vegatables, more touching up when they are removed from the sprue and then the comments from "Veg Boy" who will tell me they are the wrong colour and not what i call them but some other veg - but heyho its all for fun
Then when finished will give a good coat of Flory wash and that will cover up any problems ::) ::) ::)

I'm thinking hard.
-
I'm thinking hard.
I'll bring some Leeks tomorrow, just as a reminder.
Martin can then check the colour as well.
-
Veg now in the crates - needs a little touching up and then a Flory wash
-
Almost edible if a little small.
-
They look good. Where are the leeks?
-
In the kitchen ready to be cooked ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
What about the leaks in the boats?.........
-
No leaks in any of my boats - hohohoho

-
Some more creates under construction and the extra veg to go inside them
-

-

I'm sure the Msea touch will be the answer.
Kevin
