Budapest 1956
« on: November 17, 2015, 01:59:16 PM »
Well back to a model I started 3 years ago and only got about 80% finished - it will now be finished for a competition. This was before I was able to access the site so will post the photos taken at the time.
Like most of my models the idea came from reading (see the photo of the books.)
When the Russian tankers entered Budapest they had to close down the tanks, and could only see out of the vision slits ( not easy to see ) the Hungarians strung rows of pots and pans across the roads and the Russians thought they where arial mines so this stopped them and allowed the Hungarians to close up and attack  them,
The base is MDF and plaster on top to form the street.

The strange wooden block is to give some strength to the buildings.
Yes Zak I know some of the roof tiles are on the wrongway round - I should change them but I am not going to - its only a hobby and for FUN. As long as I learn from my mistakes that should be OK.

The advertiding station is a round tube with strips of plastic to form the different areas. the pots and pans are scratch buils so are the lampposts. The Hungarian flag is wine bottle top painted and the centre section of the flag cut out.

The figure are Italier Soviet WW2 Naval Infantry - they had the types of poses i needed and I only had to make the clothes instead of a major reconstruction.
All the clothes and hats are made from wine bottle tops - not bad for somebody who does not drink wine.

The books are bits cut from note pads and a wine bottle cover added to each one. The records are old 78 ( thats going back a long way - for people like Wizzel you will have to ask your Uncle Zak ) they are just cardboard and some cut and burnt to look the part of a ransacked building with everything thrown out onto the street or onto the bonfire.
Lots of posters and papers of the time taken from the internet and made to the correct size and printed  - again some torn and burnt others as new. Starting to look messy and lots of ash from the fire spread around.

Hi Msea,

That is one fantastic amount of detail and effort into this project. I am always amazed by your ingenuity in creating things from 'nothing' into things of true masterpiece.

You are a genius Msea, however being a 'genius' can be described as close to 'madness'. I suppose you fit the latter description on days with a 'Y' in them.......................oops that's every day, ho ho ho ho!

From one madman to another, brilliant stuff. Will the T-34 get some tracks for Christmas?

Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

Goodness.  I saw a picture of this on the gallery just as I logged in and clicked onto it to see more, not realising you had JUST posted it.  I remember seeing this at Grumpy John's years ago when Zak was on holiday and not long after I had joined the club.  It'll be good to revisit this.

Thank you very much BigKev I agree, I also think I am mad on every day with a y in it !!!
This was one of the first large diarams I tried - I seem to be able to make diarams with detail and ships ( not to Haddocks level ) but I can't make tanks or planes look anything other than a plastic toy, they never look like the real article. I wish I had the skills of some of you.
But as I always say its the FUN aspect of the hobby I like.

Yes Kev the tank will get some tracks for Christmas - they have now had the first coat of brown paint, silver drybrushing to follow.
The lamp has had a coat of silver inside and then filled with Glass Glue.
