HMS Daring isn't quite done yet but I think this will have to be the next project, hopefully a quickie. The finished article is 330mm long, so not a big model.
First I have to re-organise the "shipyard" cos it resembles a scrap-yard so it could be a while before I start.
I'll post some info on the ship later when I get the chance.

Another masterpiece on the way then - BUT I still like your turn off the centuary ships best.

Ooooh Goody!
Could you put a helicopter on this one please?

How do you turn off a century? ...and what is a centruary??
I think that you need a holiday....too many ships and not enough aircraft ;)

Sorry Kiteman --
My spelling is wobbly
It's good spelling but it wobbles
And the letters get in the wrong places

There are actually three in the kit, two little ones and a big one. All will be revealed shortly.

I think I do, but I'm trying to depict the development of the warship from the 1900's to today. Not only that, I don't want them all to be "mammoth tasks".

Some more info chaps. I f you need to know more about the ship, can I suggest you google USS FORT WORTH LCS-3. There's far more information on Wikipedia than I'm prepared to type, being a lazy article.
As for the kit. According to the box, there 530+ parts. I've done a quick count. There are 230 plastic part numbers, some of which will be multiple parts with the same number. I've high-lighted all the etched parts on the instructions in green, I've counted 96 green blobs, this doesn't include the tie-downs on the flight deck, there are 120 of the flippin' things.
You can model the hangar door open or closed and the ramp on the stern open or closed with one of the RIB's on its launch cradle or in the water (diorama options). There is also a large access door on the port quarter that can be open or closed.
The bridge windows are moulded "open" and there is quite a bit of internal detail to add, seats and consoles and so on.
There are four helicopters, two large ones and two small ones, the small ones are the remote controlled ones if you read the blurb on Wikipedia. There are also two large RIB's and two small ones.
For my money, at thirty quid, that's a lot of bash for your buck, but a quick build, you have to be joking.

The stand will have to go, that will save some work!!

Look like pretty good value.

Seen as it was done with Xmas vouchers, pretty good.

Better than a model you don't want!

Oops! got carried away. I'd no intention of starting yet but I thought it would be nice just to have a bit of a look whilst waiting for some water to dry, this is the result, no self control whatsoever.

Well, that's it water-lined and more detail added. The brass tube is in the same position as the exhausts which Trumpeter represents as 4 holes drilled 1.5mm dia. They're just in the right place to add some stiffeners to stop the hull from collapsing and look more like exhausts, very convenient.
With all this activity, I haven't finished re-organising the shipyard yet, perhaps next week.

You can see the effect of the exhausts here.
I've got no idea what the black thing id dangling over the side, and I don't really care!

Foredeck needs lifting a tad. ( 1 tad = 4 gnats nifters )

Still using the old system, will you ever go metric?
-
Le gnat, how about that that's a metric gnat that is!!
-
Just realized I've miss-led you all. To correct the error, here's the correct definition.
Four gnats nifters = one smidgin.
Five smidgins = one tad.
So there twenty gnats nifters in a tad.
If you need to know the size of a gnats nifter, you need to go out and capture a gnat. You'll need a special instrument to measure it's nifter, a niftometer, so there you go.
Haddock.
-
Only an engineer has the certificates do such a thing. So the rest of you have been warned. Or is that all engineers are certified ?????
-
You're welcome to your certificates; I can't think of any other trade that would want a certificate in measuring nifters from ANY species MSea.
-
Some progress has been made................. paint sloshed on.
Haddock.
-
Bit more progress. At he moment it all looks a little bland, I need to sex it up a bit somehow. Might look better when all the small detail and railings are added otherwise it'll have to be washes and other things.
Haddock.

The modern warship does seem very plain, I am missing the feel of early stuff - bring back the Dreadnaughts. I know it shows how they have developed but I still like the feel and busyness of the earlier stuff - even WW2 is busier.
This is not a complaint about you modelling Tony, just my preferences really.
-
Must admit, I like the earlier stuff best but I'm hoping to show the development of the warship from 1900 to today so things like this have a place in the plan,
Haddock.
-
Bring back the turn of the century.
-
I could call you a Luddite, but you are obviously not.
Antiquated antiquarian?
-
Haddock,
I like all your models, whatever the era. I do agree with Zak though the 'Older' ships have a character that modern ships seem to lack.
As technology improves designs from manufacturers of aircraft, ships, cars, all seem to follow a similarity of approach.
The halcyon days of individuality from designers brains, are now constrained by the computer predicted 'models and projections' that means that all 'look' very similar to others.
It will be a great and visually historical display to see warships from 1900 to the present day in the same scale. To see how things have evolved.

Deep but true.
-
Bit more detail added. Don't know which is best, flash or no flash so you've got both.
Haddock.
-
I always prefer no flash - it can spoil the fine detail and prevents a good join if left on!
-
Railings and one or two bits and bobs added.
-
Especially for Penpusher, foredeck railings going on. This usually works for me though you need to be rich to own so many scalpels. The secret is to get the bending right to start with.

I think that you engineers are a very sad, but well equipped bunch.

A bad workman always blames his tools, a good one always uses the right tool ( for the job ).

Hi Haddock,
I don't care which part of your anatomy you use, all your work is impressive stuff!
