Hi All,
Well, a while since I posted a build on here but I would like to share with you my Gloster Gladiator in 1/48th by Pyro, though I think it was orginally a Lindberg moulding, plus a offering under Impact.
This has lain in the stash a while, and I did tinker with it a while back but then got side lined. On reopening the box, I found that I had invested in an Airwaves etch brass set, which I intend to use. I also had begun to drill out the duzz fastners on the starboard fuselage halve, but now I think that was not a good idea.
So, the kit is about 60 years old, but for its age is quite nicely moulded with some very fine panel and rib lines. A basic cockpit is provided, but I shall use the etch to improve this. My start point was to put some stretched sprue into each of those holes secured with some liquid poly, it now resembles a hedgehog and will get a haircut next time at the bench. The wings have some moulding/sink marks on them which need dealing with. I scored each sink mark in a cross hatch before using some Mr. Hobby white putty, to fill them. Once dry I'll sand them flush.
The engine is very nicely moulded, but I noticed the hole for the prop was off centre. To correct this I fiiled the hole with Milliput, so when dry can be drilled out centrally.

Hi All,
A little progress today.
I have given the fuselage hedgehog a haircut, using some fine cutters then using tip of a No.15 scalpel blade. It will still leave just a little raised tip, which I hope will represent the fastener's I drilled out!
The putty on the sink marks was gently carved away using the scalpel again. When I got to a point where the sink mark was visible I masked off around the area before using some wet and dry. Once done I placed some Mr. Surfacer 1000 on the sink marks in preparation for a final finish.
The fuselage had two similar sink marks near the cockpit these were dealt in a similar fashion.
Because of the confines between the tape to protect the surface detail, I made some own bespoke sanding sticks the help with rubbing down, using lolly sticks/coffee stirrers cut to shape and then abrasive paper added.
The filler applied to the engine was rubbed down and the off centre hole for the propellor can clearly be seen.

Hi Zak,
Yes, I found that using my own sanding sticks enables me to get into places normal sanding sticks don't, plus they have a stiffer style, but not as firm as metal files,etc.
I suppose its a case of finding what works for you in a given situation.

I think so.
I've got some jobs/things Christine wants me to do, but now I can grab an hour or so more easily when at home.
Away this weekend and next so things will slow down a bit, but thereafter I should be able to find time.

Hi All,
This one found itself being side lined whilst I have been working on the Provost and Jet Provost ( for the comp).
I have started on the etch brass cockpit details, but have noticed that the seat does not seem to match the pictures I have. It seems to be a bit more bucket type with solid sides. So to rectify this I will skin the etch offering with plasticard. The instrument panel is much better.
I am still pondering about opening the cockpit door to see inside.
The main upper wing has been glued together with the correct dihedral built in. The raised circles that indicate where the roundels go, have been cleaned off.
