Title: 1/:35 Airfix Austin K2/Y Amulance
Post by: zak on September 01, 2022, 08:25:43 AM
Sorry no photos of the build.
I did have a few problems, the fit of the parts is almost too good and even a layer of paint gets in the way.
Here it is finished as Katy from the film Ice Cold in Alex.
The cutting mat was included especially for Chris.

Thought you'd been a bit quiet. Nice model Dave. Any figures to go with it?

Struggling to do much at the moment.

The Gecko Models offering has more parts and more detailed, full engine, the wheels can be posed in different positions.
As an example the Airfix Prop shaft is in one part, Gecko is in 5.

Just the two I think.
Radiator and grill, nice bit of etched brass.

Small problem with the Jerry can.
The holes in the instruction are not in the same place as the holes on the etched part?
Very odd.

Already sorted, I just removed the locating pins. That was not the point I was trying to make, sometimes you just wonder if anyone ever test builds a kit before production.

All looking good, not got one yet I might see how you get on and then decide which one.
My Dad used to driver one of these in the late 40's between Italy and Germany I'm sure he said once a week.

I bet they were hard work to drive, crash gearbox, no power steering - harder men then.

The water cans at the back were on assembly on the Airfix kit,
This one has many more, the racks are etched brass and each can is 3 parts.

I very much doubt that!

Almost finished.
Which is the better kit.
Difficult to say, good and bad points for both.
The Gecko one seems more detailed, but has lots of fiddly bits.

If I am honest, they were both a challenge.

Did the Gecko kit have any interior or is all the detail external?

Full internal detail, but as I had left the door open on the Airfix one, I decided to close this one up.
You bump into the strangest of people in Morrisons near Scarborough!
