Doing some planning for the next model. It will be a middle ages octagonal tower (well 4 sides, floor and part roof), and a lower floor area for the cauldron to be sat in.
The wizard (that's Zak to you and me) will be reading from a large magic book placed on a lectern and surrounded by large and small bookcases and a wood chest, lots and lots of books and scrolls around the room.
-
May we have an Old Crone for the cauldron? :o
-
Was thinking of an "Igor" if I can find one - that would be an "igor blimmy" - hohoho
-
Very Crypt-ic.
All I can say is "OH DEAR, Again!"
-
Glad you approve - hohohohho
-
This is going to be fun.
-
Have you been reading Harry Potter whilst laid up?
-
No Chris - history of Sevastopol and also the Russo-Japanese war of 1904/5 - this one came from an idea in the latest Fantasy Figures International magazine - just don't tell Zak I can read ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Some progress made on Zaks magic books to be placed on the lectern and chest/table.
All they are are bits of post it notes, card cover with wine bottle foil tops wrapped round it and the center pages from the internet.
-
Excellent stuff Martin. Will there be any rubbish in this one?
-
Its my model - so what do you think - hohohohho - lots and lots and lots is the answer.
-
More Magic!
-
No magic Howard BUT another 40 books that will be in the bookcase or in piles on the floor.
-
B...dy Hell! That's starting to be up with Dave and his bricks!
-
There are not that many books in Bempton, we are cliff dwellers after all.
-
Don't worry Zak I will make most of them picture books.
-
Some posters to act as scrolls that will be placed in a bin and some on the bookcase as well.
The photos show the front and back of the posters - because they will be rolled up I have used some water soluble pencils on the back to take away the very white colour from the paper.
-
They are going to be excellent scrolls. Almost as well known as the Dead Sea scrolls.
-
Base colour on some of Zaks picture books - YoHoHoHoHo
-
Base and walls made - just waiting for the size of the wizard so I can sort out the door position and size.
-
First bookcase made
-
Nice bookcase Martin.
-
Nice bookcase Martin.
IKEA?
-
No Haddock its from OOMH that's "out of my head" to you and me - hohohho
-
Looks more MFI.

Is that 'Must Flippin' Incinerate'......???
Bigkev
-
I feel a cartoon coming on Kevin ;D ;D ;D >:( >:( >:( ;D ;D ;D
-
A chest ad a new picture book being made for Zak - hohoho
-
Is the furniture made from balsa?
-
No just 2mm and 1.5mm acrylic and bits from the scrap box.
-
Bin made to hold the scrolls.
-
Metal banding on the chest and some PVA rivets on the cross of the bands.
When dry will paint bands with dark grey and dry brush the rivets silver.
-
Looks really good.
-
Thank you - I have enjoyed making the bits and bobs as much as making a ship ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I'm not sure if I am looking forward to the finished article or not, but I am enjoying the build.
-
Excellent build on the the items you have done Martin. Impressive.
-
Thanks Chris and if you enjoy at least some of it Zak it will have been worth it.
Now we can see Zak is plastered again ( sorry could not resist that one) floor and one wall have a coat of plaster, will engrave flagstones and bricks into them when dry.
-
Books and scrolls added to the bookcase - now need to go and make evn more. Also the larger scrolls put into the bin.
-
You modellers are showing us kit builders up BIG time!!! Excellent work.

Magical
-
Great furniture.
-
Thanks to you all for the comments.
Floor and wall cleaned up and the flagstones, bricks and stones marked and engraved - next some paint.
-
It all looks good to me, are you going to be interviewed on the telly with the bookcase behind you, they seem to have a competition as to who has the best one.

Martin will have to shrink a bit. I think the bookcase was only a few inches tall!
-
Yes Chris only 3 inches tall - so I would be only about 2 inches but still causing problems.
Some different colours on the flagstones and some bricks have colour on them - next a coat of varnish and then some washes.
-
Looking very impressive.
-
Now what has my warped and twisted mind come up with now -- hohohoho
The brass bar will be cut in half and make 2 things associated with the cauldron - any ideas ::) ::) :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ >:( >:( >:( ;D ;D ;D
-
Boiling bones!
-
Good idea but no.
-
Eye of newt?
-
CORRECT that man ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D - will have the bottles of potions above the cauldron and pouring the stuff into the cauldron by itself - the wax on the brass bar will be coloured different for each - now what colour is eye of newt :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-

Fluorescent green sounds good.
Grotbag Goblin Green.
-
That' ;) ;) ;)s OK by me
-
Door and window cut out of the wall sections.
Other 2 photos show dots of oil paint on the flagstones and wall then blended in with a soft brush.
-
Looking very good Martin.
-
I like the look of the stonework.
-
Thank you Zak - I will take that as a compliment from a brickwork/stonework expert.
-
Very artistic!
-
Last 3 walls plastered and marked
-
Metal banding on the chest and some PVA rivets on the cross of the bands.
When dry will paint bands with dark grey and dry brush the rivets silver.
That is fantastic!
-
It is all absolutely amazing! The stone work is superb.
-
Yes, fantastic. I presume a figure will appear as if by magic?
-
No by post Chris - they are from Nathan at Mighty Lancer - but am waiting to see if he can get me an after the apocalypse figure in 70mm - so will get them all set when/if he gets them.
I have enough to do at the moment with floors, walls, roof, book etc before I get started on the figure.
-
Window metal bars made and first coat of paint added, work under way on the door at the same time.
-
All made from balsa?
-
No again Chris -- the window bars are small square acrylic rod with a cross halving joint and the door is borrowed coffee sticks.
-
All 4 walls now added and a little filler by the door step - door made and just the lock and some dry brushing to add.
The window has now had its bars fitted and rusted.
-
Very nice scenic modelling Martin.
-
Colours on the stonework look good.
Is there going to be a table and chair for the alchemist?
-
Thanks for the comments - table and chair will have to wait until I get the wizard - can then sort out position and size and decide what else is needed - Zak needs a lot of space to wave his hands about to get the bottles to pour into the cauldron on their own :-* :-* :-* :-* ;D ;D ;D ;D ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
There's going to be a cauldron?
-
There's going to be a cauldron?
How else do you think Zak makes hie models so quick ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

I did wonder.

ITS MY TURN FOR THE EYE!
Looks amazing.

So who are the other 2 fates ???????
-
Its got to be two other committee members. ;D
-
Its got to be two other committee members. ;D
But who ::) ::) ::) ::)
Next job remedial work on the walls. When I started I decided to make the floor and 4 walls as separate bits of MDF and add the plaster to each, so I could work on them flat. When they had been painted have fastened them together but am not happy ( you can find the other 6 dwarfs) - the stones don't match up and it has small gaps at the corners. Have decided that as I am making balsa roof beams covered with tiles I will make some balsa support beams to go from the floor to the roof between the walls this is to hold the roof beams up - that's my excuse anyway.
If/when I do another castle/middle ages room like this think I will make all the walls and fasten them to the floor section before plastering and painting - more difficult to work on but think it will give a better finish - so now into the loft for the balsa box :) :) :)
-
Balsa support beams made, painted and fitted -- next job the roof.
-
Excellent Martin.
-
Thanks Chris.
Card roof section made and the internal beams shaped and added to the card.
The 3rd photo is a card basket that had an Easter egg in it for "she who must be obeyed" and she has given it to me - so will cut out sections to go between the beams and hope it looks like wattle to hold the tiles on top of the roof.
-
Looking great. Can't wait to see it with a figure in.
-
Coming along really well.
-
Thanks Zak.
First 2 of about lots and lots and lots and lots of different size tiles made to fit the triangular sections of roof -- think they will "do my head in" - hohohoh
-
Industrious as ever!
-
Thanks Zak.

What about using some kind of round former?
-
Have used round brass bar to bend them round but decided they needed a flat section on each side to help glue them down. So bent round bar and then used flat pliers to turn each side up a bit then re-bent round bar.
First row of tiles added - and yes it did my head in - now only another 6,864 tiles to go then the ridge tiles - who's idea was this, oh yes it was mine :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
You'll be laying bricks individually - like me - just to complete the madness, HAHEHOHO -they're coming to take me away.
-
Looking good though. Be ready for 2030?
-
Five rows done -- gar gar gar goo goo gooooo. Will be glad when they are all done BUT it is very therapeutic when doing it.
Sorting out the alchemists robe colour and hair - blue and ginger before you ask.
-
Ginger robe and blue hair, fab!
-
Ginger robe and blue hair, fab!
Sounds OK to me is this Zak with a blue rinse :o :o :o :o :o
-
All tiles added and then black primer and first coat of red for the tiles.
-
Get it matted down!
-
Shading and green moss and weeds to add yet - then matted down - are you Mr Grumpy with a blue rinse - hohoho
-
Get it matted down!
Happy now
-
Looks realistic.
-
Looks realistic.
A little.
-
Just you wait till I start on the ginger beard ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Excellent rooftiles. Certainly realistic.
-
Shading and green moss and weeds to add yet - then matted down - are you Mr Grumpy with a blue rinse - hohoho
If he had a full head of hair, ......then maybe
Oooops, smack around the lugs coming.....
Bigkev
-
Roof finished and trial run on the building. Decided to add the weeds and grass on the roof after I have pressed it down onto the wall sections - save damaging the weeds ( Bill and Ben would not be happy if Little Weed got damaged - back to my childhood again) also will fasten the roof down when all inside has been finished - now off to do a sepia picture of Zak for the picture frame - hohoho -
-
Looking rather good Martin.
-
Thank you Chris. ;D ::) ::) ;D
Being a cheap type of person I only have the free open office on my comp and not the all singing all dancing all expensive art/photo packages - so can only do these shots of Zak - now which one do you think he will like best - am sure he will get in touch with his comments - hohohoh
-
I think the last picture looks best.
-
Silence is golden!!
-
Huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Absolute magic....again!
-
Huh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this means Zak is lost for words again!
Bigkev
-
Thinks its more like I am going to get a clip round the ear :( :( :( :( :(
-
Msea, have you seen that Masterbox are releasing more figures in the 'Edge of the Universe' series which you may find useful for your Alchemists Den
-
Thanks Bill - have not seen them but will go and have a look after a couple of hours gardening
-
Just had a look at the Master Box site - so you think the small figure with the extended robot legs looks like Zak - well he does have a ginger beard, wonder what Zak will say when he sees them ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
The other 2 figures I will leave for you to make and paint - my next project other than some more work on the Varyag is a 75mm Post Apoc Warrior from War Griffon Miniatures made by Stavros Zouliatis
-
Some more piles of books to put around the room.
-
The alchemist has produced his model of a deep sea diver coming out of the cauldron - will look better with its copper coloured helmet with brass fittings - at least I hope so.
-
A small hole drilled into the divers head then a tube fastened and cut down to size for the helmet viewing porthole.
-
Coming along.
-
Interesting.
-
Some colour on the diver and before you say it the mask is filled with gloss varnish that has not set yet that is why it's a funny colour. The gunmetal blue at the bottom of the figure is what will be in the cauldron with the figure emerging from the surface.
-
The underside of the roof finished with sections cut from "she who must be obeyed's" Easter egg box.
First shot is showing the sections in place on the under side of the roof and the second shot is from inside the building with the roof the correct way round this time.
-
Does it rain in?
Very effective, amazing what you can use.
-
Excellent. But there's a gap between the wall and roof!
-
Excellent. But there's a gap between the wall and roof!
Hence my asking about the rain.
-
Its a WIP - the beams between the wall sections have to be lowered a little and then the roof section glued down onto the top of the walls.
I have to finish all the stuff on the walls first - like the lights/torches, pictures of Zak, broom ( how else will he travel), stand for hat and cloak and a clock so he can tell the time - easier to add them before fitting the roof in place.
Just at the moment spending a lot of time in the garden so not going at Zak speed only warp 6, but will try and speed up to keep you all happy - if that's the word I am looking for hohohohoho

Glad your in the garden, I have been to the allotment, parsnips, peas, onion sets and early potatoes planted,
-
Yes in the garden - fencing, bonsai and voodoo lilies - not a thing that you could eat - hohoho
-
Forgot to say --sarracenia, nepenthes and dionaea - that's carnivorous plants to you and you can't eat them either hohohohho
-

I have a friend who is into carnivorous plants, he once took me up the NYM to see some sundews, I was a little underwhelmed, they were tiny.
-
Yes but the nepenthes in Bornio can eat things the size of a rat - and my sarracenia are about 12 inches tall.

Scary - the stuff of nightmares, I never did like "The Day of the Triffids".

Great stuff, poking fun at those who dare know you.
Skills abound, in all aspects. Respect Man, Respect.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Have you eaten her easter egg already?
-
Have you eaten her easter egg already?
No I am not that cruel or brave - she had the Easter egg and I got the packaging YoHoHo
-
Decided that Zak needed his house number on the outside of the door for the post man -- hohohoho
Other shot is the start of the lectern for the magic book - yes itwas a pain trying to get the 3 legs the same size/shape :-\ :-\
-

Looks good though.
-
Te lectern now has its top - this will be covered by a large open book so nothing will be seen of it.
Second shot is Zaks new broom - so he can clean up at the next competition and win all the prizes - hohoho
-
Is it a Nimbus 2000?
Bigkev
-
Is it a Nimbus 2000?
Bigkev
No its for Zak Potter so its a Nimbus 200
-
Is it made of witch hazel?
-
Witch/which bit - hohohho
-
The large magic book added to the lectern and a start made on the wall light.

You've got me beat.
The lectern and lamp look great by the way.
-
Thanks Chris - a clue "it will light your way" hohohooh
-
Zaks halo now turned into candle holders and also some colour on the wall light
-
Candle and holder now painted.
-
Candle and holder now painted.
How about some LEDs for a real light effect?
-
You must have read my mind but its for the next model. Looking to sort out a red/green flashing light to put at the end of the corridor.
Trying positions of the bits and bobs in the room at the moment.
-
Looking excellent Martin.
-
Hi Msea,
Brilliant, your creativity knows no bounds.
Cheers,
Bigkev
-
Not quite as cluttered as our hobby room but great none the less. Well done MSea.
-
Thanks for the comments.
Zak has now landed in Walkington - hohoho - now the hair will be ginger but shall the cloak be Royal Blue or Purple ::) ::) ::) ::)
The cauldron is 3D printed and am just deciding if I place it on the fire as is or remove the hanging rings and replace them with brass rings and chain and put it hanging on 3 metal bars - decisions decisions decisions ??? ??? ??? ???. Might have to clean up the outside of the cauldron as you can see the lines left from the printing process - but for £4 I am very impressed with it. Thanks Nathan.
-
But...........................................................................
-
But what Zak ----you are so happy to be in one of my models ---- you think he is to good looking --- he has not enough hair -- he is to happy ---- you will give me a clip round the ear when you see me ?????????? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
It's all going to be good whatever you do Martin. Orange hair sounds good.
-

I did have hair and it was ginger, once upon a time.
-
Reminds me of a Terry Pratchett book.
Cracking stuff.

Orange can look ginger in the right light.
recollections of a past time in this build, sorry Zak!

-
More work done on the cauldron and fire.
The model of the diving suit coming out of the cauldron has small beads glued on and when the PVA has dried will touch up with the gunmetal blue paint to harmonize them all into one, then add the 2 pots of ingredients (eye of newt) pouring themselves into the pot
-
Looking good Martin.
-
Agree,
Another full blown Msea experience of wonder....
Wonder where his next project might be,
Bigkev
-
There are not that many books in Bempton, we are cliff dwellers after all.
Soon be time for the Wicker Man Zak.

Good to see progress and you have found some time at the work bench.

Really looking forward to seeing this complete Martin. Excellent so far.

In my present state I would fall off that rock though.
Great model, in your inimitable style.
-
Excellent work Martin. Maybe the alchemist can make the pandemic go away.
-
He is working on getting Zak back to normal full time at the moment ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
What to say?
Amazing, both in concepts and realisation!
-
As ever your imagination knows no bounds. Another great piece of work.
