Battle of Britain competition is here! (July 24, 2010, 10:49:05 AM) quote
BATTLE OF BRITAIN 70th ANNIVERSARY
PLASTIC KIT BUILD COMPETITION

Modelzone Hull, St. Stephen’s Centre
Wednesday 4th August between 11am and 4pm

Bring in a completed WWII plastic model kit to win prizes!
Two age categories – under 16 and 16 and over
Judging by Damien Leahy, Regional Manager for Revell
Judging will take place at 2.30pm

Come along and share ideas with fellow modellers

Any entrant to the competition will receive
10% off any purchases made in store on the day

There are two prizes for each age range – winner for each group will receive a Revell Battle of Britain set, runner-up for each group will receive a Revell British Legends set.
Only one aircraft model can be entered per person. Entrants should be able to bring in and collect models from the store on the day of the competition. Modelzone unfortunately cannot be held responsible for models left in store after this time. The model should represent any aircraft that was in civilian or military service between 1938 and 1946 from any nationality.
Models will be judged on the quality of build and on aesthetic quality. Artistic licence is encouraged. The model must have started as a plastic model kit. Scratch-built and after-market modifications are allowed, but using these materials will have no guarantee on the final result. Models may be displayed on a diorama using figures, vehicles or buildings, however, only the aircraft and up to 10 cm around the model on any diorama will be judged. If an entrant wishes to submit a diorama with more than one aircraft, he/she should specify which aircraft they wish to be judged.
10% discount applies to any full price items purchased on the day, excluding sale items, not in conjunction with any other offers. Prizes are not to be exchanged for cash.

Watch out for more kit building competitions in future!

Hi All,

I would just like to say Thanks to Modelzone for running this type of competition, its great they have taken time and effort to do so.

However I would have liked to have entered myself, but was unable to because of the date and time the competition was being held. I work full time with weekends (mostly) free, as perhaps a lot of active modellers do also.

Perhaps the uptake of the competition would have been higher if it had been held over a weekend, when I could have got there, entered and perhaps purchased from the store.
As it is, I have still to visit the store, and enjoy its range of kits and accessories. I will one day, but perhaps I might have visited sooner if this competition had been over the weekend, certainly Saturday at least?

Hopefully Modelzone will read this and take my comments on board if they go down this route again?

ditto kev,it did seem a very strange day to hold the judging, hopefully if they have one in future they will hold it on a weekend, you should try and visit the store soon, there is plenty to see including die-cast,figures,hornby,etc as well as models,my only very small criticism would be that the model section is perhaps a little too top heavy with revell, having said that the staff are very friendly and helpfull and there are some very competitively priced kits.a great place to spend an hour whilst the significant other is bothering clothes shop assistants.

Hi Driffowl,

Yes, I must convince my other half she needs some retail therapy soon. I suppose I could superglue my credit card to my wallet for safety!, whilst I enjoy Modelzone.

thanks for your comments, glad to know you feel same.

Hi All,

I've just recieved a very nice email from the Manager of Modelzone, Chris Taylor.

It helps to explain their position and rationale for the recent competition. Also what they are looking to do for us modellers in the future and perhapsopportunities for us to get involved too.

I,ve included it with this post so pleasetake time to read it and pass on your comments either via me orhim direct.

Hi Kevin, many thanks for your comments, feedback is much appreciated.

Firstly, don’t worry, we will hold future events at the weekend, I would greatly look forward to receiving your entries, likewise from any of your members.

I hope our decision to hold the event in the week didn’t offend, you are right as to the other forces! In this case, the school summer holidays were a target, particularly in negotiations with St Stephens Centre. Also, to secure good prizes from Revell, the weekday choice enabled us to boost the prize giveaway with their support due to ease of them attending!

If I’m honest, this was a taster for future events to ‘test the water’ if you like. We will be doing similar events to target more ‘hardcore’ modellers, with diorama competitions and similar ideas, all of which are being looked in to.

I will keep you posted on these, and we will certainly be looking at weekend dates. Please feel free to invite any suggestions on your website – anyone can drop me an e-mail, I’d love to hear from any of your members!

Also, we are looking at a large schedule of events over the coming months, particularly in conjunction with local clubs in joint efforts to boost awareness, and membership, of the clubs while naturally driving new interest in the hobby as a whole and with our store. Would your club be interested in coming along on a weekend either to display completed models or maybe even a kit building demonstration day? This could even coincide with another kit building competition. I am open to any suggestions and ideas that would benefit both of us!

Kind regards

Chris

Store Manager
Modelzone Hull

As you can see, Modelzone have to be congratulated in taking time to respond, and explaining things to us. Perhaps you would like to make a comment to Chris Taylor too.
