Tupolev Tu 95 Bear D
« on: June 29, 2019, 09:10:45 PM »
I can't be blamed - it was not ALL my fault, it was Neil who made me do it.
After all the comments I have made in the past about model planes - yes its a plane. I got the Yefim Gorden and Dmitriy Komissarov book on the Tu 95 from Neil and that got me thinking I was sure I had one in the loft, it was from"The Works"at a price of £9.99 and then half price a few years ago.
Will it be made straight out of the box and put onto a plain base - not a cat in hell's chance. Got thinking about how the Riga air museum did the planes -- so will try and do something similar and  have lots of bombs, missiles, display boards, people, wire netting etc. So lots of scratch building and to keep Haddock happy its rigged, not to the same scale as ships its got ONE wire from the tail to the body. After looking at the instructions have decided that if I don't make it so the props turn can re-jig the order of making so its easier to paint - thats the plan at the moment.

Hi Msea,
Now your coming into the light, another plane at last!
Will look intently at this build, and see what magic you can conjure up with this Tu-95 'Bear'.

I hope my next is always better

Expect the plane lobby will rip my Tu95 to bits but heyho its only for FUN

So that the props can be fitted later the outer retaining ring has been ground of the engine housing.
The second photo shows the upper and outer wing section clamped for fastening together.

Coffee drunk and now the tail sections added to the body of the plane.
Decided that if the mid turret guns are fitted as they should be its not very good -- so made a small plastic ring to bring the turret up to the firing position as shown in the last photo not in flying mode as photo three.

Just back in from the garden - its raining, so a couple of small gaps filled and next job lots of cleaning up and smoothing out joints. Also a trip to Boyes to get some aluminium paint, not used much on ship models unless you are doing the Oriana she had an aluminium deck housing.

Both sets of props added to the holding rod - before you tell me that when at rest the props are both level with each other -- I like them as they are.
Second and third shots show the holding bars to hold the body when painting with my NEW aluminium paint.

Base board and surround made - surround needs some more shape and smoothing but easier to make first before working on the base board. Next a coat of glue on the base board and some fine tea leaves for a start on the groundwork.

Thin layer of tea leaves added when dry some grass and maybe blocks for the plane to stand on. Also a wire net surround for two sides with RAZOR wire to keep the modellers OUT.

Paper jig made to get the wire fence supports the same size and then all primed.
