CHINESE IRONCLAD TING YUEN IN1:350 BY BRONCO.
« on: February 18, 2019, 04:35:00 PM »
Started this really by mistake. Opened the box to have a look and got carried away with myself.
It's the usual Bronco fare, beautifully moulded if a little over-engineered.
The parts are on five sprues, there's a fairly comprehensive brass fret and some transfers to make into flags, I've also invested in wooden decks. The instructions look to be easy to follow and are printed in a magazine quality booklet.
It's not the prettiest looking ship but being red, white, black and yellow should look quite colourful.
This could be a quick build for me. The fun will come with the small details, masts and rigging.
The artwork shows the late version, I'm going for option one with the most detail.

Some progress but not a lot. If it wasn't for rigging, most of this lot wouldn't be necessary.
Masts built with a combination of plastic and brass. Besides the hull and decks, everything else
is just tacked in place with Humbrol Maskol and brass pins where needed, a bit fiddly but it works.
Next job is to decide where the standing rigging will land on the decks. Some rigging is shown on
the painting instructions but closer examination shows it just wouldn't work, it's just a figment
of the artist's imagination.
All this is complicated by the fact that the 'addock 'oles can't be drilled till the wooden decks are fitted, which comes after the hull and superstructure are painted so this may take some time.

Just resurrected this one. As soon as I've done anything meaningful, I'll post some pics.

Some progress has been made. Not without it's problems.
Some holes cut into the inside part of the hull so I can get at the "'addock 'oles " to fix the lower ends of the rigging, when I've decided where it will go.
The square bit of plastic with a cross marked on it carries a piece of brass tube that coincides with the square mounting hole with the long brass pin fitted in the square at the foot of the main-mast, it stiffens up the assembly quite considerably.
The wood decks just don't fit, if it wasn't for the fact that I've paid for 'em, I'd probably resort to paint and a wash but the moulded planks are grossly overscale so I'll persevere.
All pieces need trimming to fit, the central strip needed cutting into three bits and trimming to shorten it and prevent it from buckling up in the middle, hopefully you can't see the joins.
The locations for the small details are very indistinct and most have disappeared below the wood, using the best adhesive becomes a bit of a problem.
Stop moaning Beesting and just get on with it!!

Hi Msea,
What do you mean 'patience of a saint', he is...….
I understand that he was canonised a few years ago, or was that fired from a cannon.....

He may not have a 'halo'..... YET!

But his modelling is,......truly heavenly.

I hope my next is always better

Not the handsomest of ships but at least it's starting to look colourful.
Here's a few 'addock 'oles, I can see sixteen. The rigging will land on the decks in thirty-two positions in total (I think), not all will need 'addock 'oles. Not decided the best way to tackle the rest yet.

Don't know what's come over me, I'm sticking stuff on with gay abandon, anything is fair game, it could all end in tears.

Have you been teaching him how to work fast Zak - or is this the new improved Haddock, that is going to take over from you in the "speed trials" ??????

After end starting to look busy now.
A few days ago I had the crazy idea that I could complete this ready for our show.
It might even happen.
Haddock.
Not very clear pictures, sorry.
