Thank you Zak and Haddock for the methods of holding the tea leaves down.
Have used watered down PVA and as you can see from the photo have left a test bit undone - its larger than I was going to leave but run out of PVA so that's the reason.
If the PVA does not hold the leaves firm enough will try Haddocks method of a coat of varnish on top.
We live and learn -- that's what I like about this club, nobody holds onto bits of information or skills, they are happy to help others improve -- and yes I do need a lot of improving before you say it.

10 out of 10 and a gold star Zak - it worked on the tea leaves - and thank you Haddock for the back up plan.

Corner sticks added to the roof and then some card put over this to give a solid surface, when its all dry and solid will give a coat of paint and then add straw to give a surface.
Zak which way round do I put the straw on the roof - hohoho - I could put it side to side instead of from the top to the bottom , that would give you another chance to laugh at me.

A coat of brown paint on the roof so no white will show through if the straw moves.
Next photo is a start made on putting the straw on the roof.

You can see from the 2 figures the soldiers left arm is a solid blob of plastic joining the arm,gun and body. A little bit of work drilling this out makes all the difference - I bet MOST members of the club will not even notice this when I bring it to a meeting - but heyho its only for FUN.

Thank you Oli.
Some more work done on the soldiers and put also  a darker colour on the rocks , so they could be dry brushed lighter.

First two lines of soldiers added to the base.
Before Zak says it yes it does look like the scene from the film Zulu.

Some Zulu opposition added to challenge the soldiers.
Now to finish painting the rest of the soldiers and Zulus.

Different films but the same character played by Michael Caine in most of them. But still a lot of good films.
Some more work done on the next batch of soldiers and Zulus.  Also changed the net of the box to say "John Cook & Co Ltd", will print them off in the morning and make into box and add to the wall.
