I have been scratch building some of the trailers that form part of the infrastructure for the launch of the Thor missile.
So artistic licence here I am afraid, details are quite sketchy.
There are hydraulic pumps for the raising of the missile, air conditioning units, Power switchboards and electrical and launch control trailers. Everything used the US electrical system.
The diesel generators were situated some distance from the actual launch site.
Most of these were connected to the conduit that was laid into the concrete site.

I think the project is running away with itself - maybe I should never have started.

The left side of the missile shelter is almost complete, still paining to do, I need some advice on the colour of vehicles and so on.
Anyway here are some views with the undercoated vehicle in position.
I am still waiting for the paint of the missile to thoroughly dry.

Hi Zak,
This build is just getting better and better. Like all the ancillary stuff you've made from scratch, it really looks good and gives a sense of the complicated set up.
A lot of research is evident in this build.
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

Not enough really, some areas are incorrect, but it may have to do.

Progress of sorts. Missiles are 37 and 39 - two from Carnaby, the one on the trailer with the Leyland Hippo has no warhead attached.

I am now working on the other side and painting the vehicles and changing the colour of the missile shelter after taking advice.

Was just thinking again -- seeing how this model has become larger and larger -- how about motorising it and having the roof move off and the missile rise into the firing position ???????
Or will this comment get me a double price sub for this year ??????

Believe it or not the thought had also crossed my mind.
I even thought about launching the missile.
Stop dreaming, get back in the real world!
A model was produced in the 1960's that did this, they are rare, one sold recently for £1500 I think.
Look at the bottom of page 1 on this thread.

Well it is about as far as I want to go, some of the vehicles are a bit rough and ready but it is more of an overview than individual bits, its about the whole base.
Some figures and the odd bit to finish, but it is time for a rest and do something else.
I may come back to this at some stage.
