Thunder Models 1/35 Scammell Pioneer tractor TRMU330 and Trailer
« on: February 02, 2018, 09:08:45 AM »
Although the V2's will still be on going as I source the kits required, I decided to have a go at this kit.
The name Thunder Models is new to me.
The kit has over 600 parts which on initial inspection seem to be well moulded.

I do have trouble searching for parts on the sprues - old age and failing eyesight I guess.
So now I put a large label on the sprues so that they are easier to see.

I have just built the engine, this is quite detailed and comprises over 40 parts, some of which are etched brass.
The etched brass supplied is ok, it is very coppery coloured though.

Here is their website

http://www.thundermodel.com/

They seem to do a range of 1/35 models, I expected Takom to have produced this before them.
I have already built the IBG Scammel Recovery Tractor, its on page 3 of the modelling section.

Well, the engine was more like 50 pieces, forgot to count the bits of etched brass!

The kit is fine but has more than the usual number of moulding tabs on the back of pieces 9there is probably a fancy name for them.

The engine is now being painted after construction.

I do often forget to take photographs so here are some after the event.
Probably too involved with the modelling, no bad thing.

The model is made up of quite a lot of sub assemblies.

Hi Zak,
Looks good so far.
For me, too many bits and sub assemblies,
If I have to take my gloves and socks off, then I lose the will to live...........
For you, my admiration on your tenacity,
Cheers,
Bigkev
I hope my next is always better

More details added and the chassis painted.
You can see the coppery coloured etched brass in the first photo.

This looks really nice.  What technique have you used for the floor?

Fortunately the wood grain is etched into the plastic so after undercoating it had a coat of Vallejo wood, after drying I then used raw umber oil paint thinned and applied, it ran into all the crevices and the result was as you see.
