Hi All,

Well whilst I was on with the Mirage Type IXc Submarine, I also began in the background this model.
Pen Pusher kindly gave me this model to build, as it had a bit more etch to practice on compared to the Mirage offering.
The model generally is well moulded in pale grey plastic of a short run nature and some detail is a little soft, however the etch is really good and fine and includes a full deck as well as railings, ariel's, cable cutters, antenna's.
On this build I have placed some plasticine and lead weights inside the hull to give a sense of weight to the model. Also I created a base from some of the parts provided, and some scratchbuilt supports.
Anyway a few pictures follow of the model so far from start to finish.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Great stuff, you are certainly into this area of modelling now - is this your current sub-ject?

Ah, velly good jokey Sir,

This is one of my unfinished projects. It has now moved on from 'Sub' sections to a more complete model awaiting some paint.
I hope to make the etch work better, not quite so 'Sub-standard' as my last one.
Some more pictures will follow soon.
Cheers,
Wakey wakey Bigkev.

Hi All,
Well a little more progress on this one. I have now added a few of the etch brass fittings that come with the kit, railings handrails, cable cutters and the like.
Must admit found it a bit easier this time, and managed to curve two railings around the gun mounting and get them attached. Handrails in 1/350 very small and tedious to work with.
Now got a coat of Red-brown for the hull undersides, the next coat will be a mid grey for the uppers then all the various guns, periscopes ariel wires, etc. to add.
Until next time a couple of pictures.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi Olvar,
Thanks for the comment.
For the rest of you here is the latest update on the build.
The upper surfaces have been painted and the deck in the conning tower/sail painted. The model has had the decals applied, and some detail paintwork applied to the ship screws and the anchor. Finally another coat of gloss before some weathering and final assembly.
Note the 'stand' has been painted in gloss black but requires another coat of gloss black to provide a better finish.
Next job is weathering, followed by final assembly, then ariel wires, flags, and then a final semi matt coat to finish.
Some pictures of current state follow:-
Cheers,
Bigkev

Thanks Zak,
I have now applied some weathering using oil paint as before.
I applied random 'dots' of paint along the hull and then drew them in a downwards direction to simulate wear and tear, rusting, staining etc.
Where I thought it would be more prone to rusting I used a burnt sienna colour.
Still need to refine the streaking a bit more, as photo's show where it is a little overdone.
Some pictures of it so far:-
Cheers,
Bigkev

Looks nice, can you give me a lesson in refining weathering -some say I need lesson in refinement in all areas. In this case less is best. A lovely touch you have.

Hi Zak,
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.
I am happy to help you with this sort of weathering. I'm no expert, but I'll happily pass on what does and doesn't work for me.
Cheers,
Bigkev
