BUCKLEY CLASS DESTROYER USS ENGLAND IN 1:350 BY TRUMPETER.

Not another flippin' destroyer I hear you say. Well, there's method in my madness,
when I know what it is, I'll let you know.
Got this from "Modelsforsale" at an attractive price, good firm to deal with.
The parts count is quite low for a ship, 200+ it says on the box. Clear instructions and a small fret
of etched brass.
It all fits together quite nicely, what you see is a couple of days work.
Just a waterline plate to add then it's ready to slosh some paint on. The colour scheme
is measure 21, all vertical surfaces sea blue, decks, deck blue, which is very dark. I may lighten both
colours for effect.
I will do some more on the Fletchers before setting about this one with paint.

Have you been taking SPEED LESSONS from Zak - a fleet of major ships, a fleet of subs and now a fleet of destroyers - hohohoho

The first bit is easy as you well know. It's when you start messing around with the brass, masts, rigging
and the rest of the detailing that time disappears down the plug'ole.

TRUE TRUE TRUE - at the moment I have spent ages fastening very small brass bits to the 6inch guns and have nothing to show for it.

No, not correct.
You have sometime to show for it, it is just in minute detail.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Some progress made. I could strip it down and start to slosh some paint on.

Question Mr Haddock,

Looking good.

These were MK15 torpedoes, 21 inch dia by 24 foot long, don't know how this relates to the other stuff
you mention.
Out of interest, there were 102 Buckley's built.
306 ft long with a design speed of 24 knots ( 1 knot = 1.1 mph)
Built as Destroyer Escorts, they didn't have the speed or were as heavily armed as say the Fletcher class.
Main armament was 3 inch guns plus a variety of AA guns which were constantly being updated as better stuff became available.
They could carry up to 200 depth charges, launched from the waist by the "K" gun, four each side, and
over the stern from 2 DC racks.
Sonar was fitted as defense against submarines.
A hedge-hog was fitted in front of the forward superstructure and various types of aircraft warning radar
at the mast-head.
They had open bridges, so no protection for those on watch. This was intended to provide better all round visibility and cut down top weight.
They carried a crew of around 213 officers and men.
Many survived the war and went on to serve for a number of years.
Haddock.
