HMS M1 SUBMARINE IN 1:350 by MICRO-MIR
« on: January 05, 2021, 04:02:57 PM »
Not another submarine I hear you say, well it's MSea's fault, he put me up to it!!
Although I'm not very fond of subs, one or three wouldn't go amiss in a collection
of warships.
Not many parts which is quite therapeutic, makes for a quick build. There are no locating pins at all but it's really not a problem, the parts are quite nicely moulded. The instructions are a bit vague
so care is needed so you're not caught with your pants down.
                                         The pictures speak for themselves.
Ready to slosh some paint on. You're offered two schemes, neither of which look very pretty, I may have to use some artistic licence.
Haddock.

After getting that weird Sam 23 aircraft and looking at what else they made, I had my eye on those Mikr Mir subs thinking I may try one or two.  That's decided me, I'll give it a go...

I see this boat had a 305mm gun mounted on it. I bet that thing going off cleared the crews ears out.

It might of cleared the crew members ears when fired, but about the recipient's?. Bet something else happened when they knew what was heading towards them.......

It was certainly an interesting time for submarine design. Can't help thinking firing a broadside would have been fraught, if not terminal with a gun of that calibre.

I would love to see these models when finished. One can but dream for the moment!

From what I can remember reading about the M1 - they did not fire broadsides only ahead shots.
The sub was lowered in the water with just the gun barrel above water and they used the periscope to line up the barrel on the target and then fired the gun. Only one shot as they had to surface to reload the gun
