Modelling Projects / Bronco Models Long Range Submarine Type IXB 1/350
« on: February 14, 2021, 11:04:26 AM »
Hi All,
Continuing with the submarine theme, I have been building a type IXB in 1/350 to go with the recently completed Type IXC.
Have not posted the build process at the early stage, but now as it nears completion, I would like to share some pictures with you of progress to date, and in the coming posts to completion itself.
Some pictures of the model so far:-

Modelling Projects / HiPM Heinkel He-100 1/48 Propaganda Fighter
« on: February 14, 2021, 10:58:48 AM »
Hi All,
Was searching the loft stash and came across this kit which I bought probably 20 years ago.
It is a short run kit of the He-100 fighter.
The kit has a nice decal sheet and some etch brass for the cockpit
I had made a start on the wings, removed all the parts from the sprues, why I haven't a clue....! I have taped the fuselage and wings together so you can get some idea of its shape.
Anyway decided I would breathe some life back into it and hope in the ensuing weeks to continue with its build in between some submarines on the go.
Some pictures of the model and parts attached.

Modelling Projects / Bronco Models Type IXc Long Range Submarine 1/350
« on: January 26, 2021, 06:19:38 PM »
Hi All,
Sorry, not posted a topic for a while.
This is something that has been on the building bench for a while. It is a 1/350th scale of a Type IXc by Bronco Models.
This was a long range submarine of which there were 54 made, 35 patrol models, and 19 Minelayers.
Inferior to the earlier Type VII submarines in most respect, except for range, its additional 43 tonnes of fuel gave it a much farther reaching patrol range.

Some picture of the almost complete item. Still needs the aerials adding, decals and flag, and a final matt  varnish to bring it all together.

Cheers,
Bigkev

Modelling Projects / Revell Type VIIc/41 1/350
« on: October 16, 2020, 07:18:59 PM »
Hi All,
This is my current project.
A Revell Type VIIC/41 in 1/350.
The submarine was an improved version of the Type VIIc, with the provision for a 'Snorkel' to draw air into the submarine to allow it to recharge its batteries whilst remaining submerged.
Also around its time of introduction, the change of tactic's was to stay up on the surface if caught on the surface, hence German submarines were up gunned to provide extra anti aircraft protection.
The tactic was quite successful and many aircraft were either damaged or shot down during attacks, only superiority in allied numbers/resources degraded the tactic.

Anyway, I have got so far with the build, and have started to add the Eduard etch brass for this kit, and I am happy with the progress so far.
But it is a time consuming progress, as Haddock will agree with his ship models.

Some pictures of the progress to date follow:-

Cheers,

General Discussion / Ron Ward's widow.
« on: August 26, 2020, 08:33:24 PM »
Hi All,
Sorry to be of the bringer of sad news, but I have to let you know that I have had a message from Col. Tony to advise that Anne Ward widow of former member Ron has sadly passed away last week.

Ron, will always be remembered by fellow members who knew him as a kind generous man with an exceptional skill in producing models in 1/72nd made from wood.
The passing of Anne is very sad, and I am sure that the club will feel the loss of his widow at this sad time.

Our thoughts and condolences go to Ron and Anne's family at this time of loss.

Help / Thinning Halfords Appliance White after decanting
« on: August 09, 2020, 06:55:57 PM »
Hi Guys,
Can anybody direct me how to 'thin' decanted Halfords Appliance White so it can be sprayed by an airbrush?
Somewhere at the back of my mind, somebody had done it, but I can't remember who it was.
Thanks,
Bigkev

Hi All,

Well I have decided to go a little bigger than my last project, from 1/144th to 1/32, so not much change.....!

It is a Roden kit, so I'm expecting some build challenges.
I have also taken the opportunity to use SAC Metal undercarriage to help with nose weight, and some paint masks.
The 'spark' to buying this kit, was some of the artwork produced by one of our members and aviation artist Keith Woodcock for the 'Warplane' part work aviation magazine about 25 years ago.
In his pictures he shows the 'Lynx' in its activities both in day and night, coupled with the photographs in the article, I always said to myself if one of those becomes available I would like one in my collection.
A picture of the  'Roden' Box Art just as a start.
Cheers,

FAQ / East Riding of Yorkshire Model Show 2020
« on: March 29, 2020, 12:01:51 PM »
Hi All,

At this time I would normally be outlining our forthcoming East Riding of Yorkshire Model Show, on 6th September 2020.
Currently the show is in an advanced stage of preparation, with nearly all Trader and Exhibitor Space allocated from the returned booking forms.

However, in light of the current Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic things are complicated somewhat.

Club Statement.

'In light of the current and developing situation, IPMS Bridlington and Wolds Scale Model Club are constantly reviewing the show situation nationwide'.

'We have decided that will constantly appraise the show situation, and will make a decision whether to continue with the show or to cancel this year's event until 2021, by the end of April 2020.

These are very difficult times for all concerned, but IPMS Bridlington and Wolds Scale Model Club would like to assure all those who have expressed an interest in attending, that if at all possible, dependant of the most recent and updated, government restrictions, we hope that the show may be able to go ahead.

However, if we choose to decide that the show must be cancelled this year in light of the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak, we guarantee that all payments made in respect of Traders, and additional wristband payments will be refunded in full to those concerned. Any cheques/monies, received but not currently 'banked' will be returned to the sender.

We must stress that from an absolute point of public safety, to our club members, supporters, and visitors, that we will adhere to the very latest and current government policy at all times, even if that means that the East Riding of Yorkshire Scale Model Show 2020 has to be cancelled for this year'

Thankyou,
Kevin Dolman

Modelling Projects / Revell LZ129 Hindenburg 1/720th Scale
« on: March 21, 2020, 06:45:35 PM »
Hi All,
Just another project I've been working on.
It is a model of the 'Hindenburg Airship' in 1/720 by Revell.
It is a very straightforward model, but has a few sink marks in the moulding which need redressing, and the gondola's are very small, and need some fettling, originally got quite well on with the model, glued the fuselage together. Undercoated it and tried Alclad II Aluminium as a silver. I was not happy with the finish, or the sink marks visible.
These were filled with Mr. Surfacer 500, and the whole fuselage rubbed down with various grades of wet and dry until a really smooth finish was achieved.
Then once washed down and dry, I tried Vallejo Metal Finish Dialuminium, which is water based. With a few very thin misted coats the finish was brilliant, just what I was after.
Next job will be a varnish coat, before decaling and adding all the gondola's.

Hi All,

As you are aware certain government guidelines are in place regarding group gatherings.

it is with deep regret that the committee have therefore decided that in the face of the current coronavirus epidemic, that it is in the best interest of all club members to CANCEL THE APRIL MEETING.

Everybody will be contacted via email where possible to advise them of this. If you know somebody who cannot receive the newsletter/email notification can you make a call to that person to keep them 'in the loop'

The committee will continue to look at the situation, and advise on future meetings as things develop. In the meantime, continue to keep modelling, and why not post your builds, or work in progress here???

Take care, keep well and keep safe,
Bigkev

General Discussion / Bolton Model Show 2020
« on: January 20, 2020, 07:06:34 PM »
Hi All,
Just like to share these pictures of our club stand at Bolton.
Another excellent show, with plenty to see and buy.
However, it was very cold outside, and having the doors open to let Traders and Clubs into the hall before opening meant that it took a long while for the hall to warm up.
Need to bring your Thermals....!!!
Attendee's were Neil, Bob, Chris W, John C, Dave C, Peter D, Roger and myself, and I also spied Francis in the hall, and winning an award for his Britten Norman Islander.
Pictures follow.

General Discussion / Hayne's Workshop Manuals
« on: January 11, 2020, 05:59:03 PM »
Hi All,
I have been asked by Neil, and Chris H, to highlight the above 'manuals' on offer at 'The Works' bookshops.
Apparently there are quite a number of savings to be made on normal retail prices at the moment, January sales and so on.
Each branch may have different titles available, so perhaps its worth a look at your nearest branch or if you visit another town, they may have a title that may interest you, and at a bargain price.
Is this what a Yorkshire based club is all about...… Always look for something that is cheap!!
Cheers,
Bigkev
