Modelling Projects / 1/35 revell Unimog 404S

Sort of Argentine related, they were used by many armed forces.
The British used some captured ones in the Falklands and the Berlin Brigade had some courtesy of the Germans.
Touch wood, so far it has been a fairly trouble free build.
Every thing painted, varnish then decals and final assembly.

Modelling Projects / 1/35 Amphibious Vehicles
« on: July 16, 2023, 07:47:37 AM »
I am easily sidetracked and came across this and started to remember the models I build quite a few years ago of the 1982 Falklands War.
I then concentrated on British Forces and built mainly 1:700 ships and some 1:72 aircraft.
The Argentines used 20 of these US built vehicles for use on the Falklands after the initial landing.
Not all of them participated and some broke down.
One was a command vehicle and one a recovery vehicle, the others were the standard LVPT -7A1 variety.
Landing Vehicle Tracked, Personnel -7.
I will have to make my own decals - hopefully.
They were initially painted in Olive Green and later on returning to Argentina in other schemes.
My research turned up 1:35 models by Tamiya, Academy and Hobbyboss.

General Discussion / Tony Beesting
« on: March 21, 2023, 02:34:55 PM »
It is with grave sadness that I have to inform members and readers of the website of the passing of one of our members.
Tony Beesting passed away on Monday 20th March in Scarborough Hospital, aged 81.
I am sure he will be missed by all members of the club.
Tony was a fantastic ship modeller and his 1/350 ship models were of the highest quality. He won many competitions and always like to support competitions at shows by entering his models.
He was happy to share his knowledge and skills with others, He liked to pass on newly learned techniques and helped many modellers who struggled to come to terms with etched brass.
Tony was Chairman of the club and will be a hard act to follow. He  had a great fondness for the club and the "Old gits that stuck bits of plastic together" -  a direct quote from the horses mouth,
He appeared a gruff engineer, but had a keen mathematical and analytical mind and liked nothing better that to wrestle with obscure mathematics problems. A down to earth and practical man to boot.
He spent much of his life Rock Climbing and was I believe highly proficient at this art, It seemed to me that he was good at whatever he turned his attention to.
If you talked to Tony, you always came away with his great love of the sea and he could wax lyrical about his time spent on the Speedboats in Bridlington Harbour and also later in Fishing boats.
He spent time sailing out of Grimsby,
He had  many interests and liked to read Private Eye, follow motorcycle racing, and generally all aspects motorcycling, I also think he dabbled in art, archery and fencing.
Our sympathies must go to his family, his wife Dian, sons Colin and Peter, his brother Chris and his grandchildren.
So in his words, "just stick the bits together and slosh some paint on" - It was never that simple and often may have contained a few expletives to boot.

Bye Tony, I will miss you for many reasons.

Dave Smith

Modelling Projects / Sopwith Aviation
« on: February 28, 2023, 10:44:06 AM »
Building and researching the Sopwith Bat Boat led my to read about the founder of Sopwith Aviation and  his career in flying and aircraft maunfacture.

Sopwith Aviation Company Limited

Formed on 15th December 1913
Became defunct 17 September 1920, taken over by H.G. Hawker Engineering.
Originally base at Brooklands and founded by Thomas Octave Murdock Sopwith in June 1912. Moved to a factory in SW London on Canbury Park Rd in Kingston Upon Thames, a recently closed roller-skating rink.
The company built over 16,000 aircraft during WW1, many more built by sub-contractors.

So I thought I would attempt some of his other aircraft,
He first flew in loaned/ hired aircraft, His first purchase was a Howard Wright Monoplane that he crashed.
He ran a flying school at Brooklands and eventually started making his own aircraft.
He did apparently crash into the sewage farm at Brooklands.

This is a complete change of direction for me, I just fancied trying something different.

Have a guess.

I will change the title if you get close.

Here is a clue, it may appeal to Andy and Martin?

Sorry no photos of the build.
I did have a few problems, the fit of the parts is almost too good and even a layer of paint gets in the way.
Here it is finished as Katy from the film Ice Cold in Alex.
The cutting mat was included especially for Chris.

Modelling Projects / 1/56 Dead Man's Hand
« on: July 26, 2022, 12:08:19 PM »
As a way of getting back into modelling I bought these wargaming figures.
They are of cowboys and female gunslingers.
I started these on the modelling day on Sunday.
Each pack contains 10 figures in hard plastic,
Here are three that I have completed so far.

The story so far;
These are three female outlaws know as the Death Sisters, they all belong to the
De' Ath family and are called Angel, Grace and Mercy.
