Title: VH-60N presidential helicopter
Post by: chriswil42 on May 13, 2020, 03:06:34 PM
Just opened the box for this conversion kit. It is a Hawkeye Models conversion for which I am using a Hasegawa Blackhawk as the donor aircraft - 1/72nd scale.
Onward and upward!

Chris will you be making the "White House" to put in the background ?????

No unless your making a zombie to go in it. Sorry you're too late.
It would make a rather large diorama though.

You make the White House and I will make you a zombie to go in it -- now what colour hair shall I do ?????

I think there's already a zombie there, blonde hair and orange skin, just needs beating up a bit......could be arranged!!

Can you make a diorama to show it flying with the zombie getting pushed out? Now there's a cheery thought!!

An interesting concept; but I think I will just stick to the helicopter.
Main rotors built so far. No point of putting a photo up yet.

Hi Chris,
Now you've started on the 'big' element, you will get increased motivation.
Look forward to seeing your build progress.
Cheers,
Bigkev

Hi Chris,
Are these replacement intakes in resin?

Yes resin parts Kevin. Moving very slowly with this.

Slowly moving on. Here are the two modified fuselage halves. The new conversion parts for the doors and windows are in place with the modified glazing. Some details on the fuselage have been removed that were not requied. Sorting out the interior - not that it will be visible much.

Interior done. Not upto Dave's or Martin's standard. Seats positioning gleaned from various photographs on the internet, as best I could. Near enough as you'll only be able to see them through the windows anyway if you look very closely.

Where are the straps and the electric lead? Lol!!! Great work Chris, I like detailing interiors but it's a pity the work isn't seen sometimes.

Here is the aircraft with engine intakes and exhausts completed. The conversion parts themselves need additions - some 4mm tube for the actual exhausts mostly hidden by the exhaust suppessors. Other additions on the roof from the conversion kit.
All the antennas yet to go on as well as the tailplane and the cabin steps. Almost there.

Here is the latest with the model ready to be masked for airbrushing. Having gone through many photos available for this helicopter and realising that the conversion kit was 20 years old (it's a little out of date), I ended up using artistic licence with the antennas' placement and types of antenna. Also I had to make up one or two additional parts and modify others to get close to the photos.  It would appear over the years types of antenna and placement has changed with the actual aircraft as well as there being several different aircraft. Anyway I've got to point where I can get onto the final stages. Got some decals to make also.

You can't beat a bit of artistic licence.

As I always say "s** the rivet counters" do what you want.

Hi Chris,
Apply 'TLAR' ...... That Looks about right.
If your happy with the result then that's okay. Rivet counters..... Bah, Humbug!

I think you guys are right. If it looks the job and I'm happy with it, that's all that matters.

Main colours airbrushed. Mr Hobby no 340 for the green and Halfords Fiat white for the white. Some brush work bits and pieces to do then on with the decals.

It must be my colour blindness, it looks almost black in the Photo.

Yes it is definitely green. Lighting is not so good. I'll remember for future photos.

You can just see its green but only because you have said so, without the prompt I would have said its black.

Definitely green, keep off the bridge.

Finished at last. After a few breakages and reglueing  I also had to make up decals for the white cheat lines down each side of the fuselage and they took a few attempts. Reasonably happy with the outcome.
