Title: 1968 Vietnam scene
Post by: MSea on December 07, 2019, 11:57:13 AM
This model was picked up at Telford last year and I found the WW2 jeep in the loft ( yes it is WW2 and Vietnam but as a good Yorkshireman, a bit of mud and slop and you will not notice the difference)
The book is the Osprey Campaign Series "Tet Offensive 1968"  and the jeep will be placed in a street scene with the Vietcong firing from a building, well that is the plan at the moment, it may change.

Most of the work on putting this model together was done at "Playday 2 - Return of the Nerds"   All have been primed and next job some colour on the bits and bobs.

Jig made for the wall in front of the building. A section of MDF cut for the wall but it looks a bit thick and out of scale, so a thinner section of acrylic has now been cut, will see which is best.
Title: Re: 1968 Vietnam scene
Post by: MSea on December 14, 2019, 03:39:32 PM
Decided that the acrylic looks more in scale than the MDF - so marked up and drilled out, last section filed to shape.

Keep on Drilling and Filing....

Hi Msea,
This is looking good.
What sort of wallpaper will you be hanging, a nice floral number, or a more zany physcodelic affair?
I'm sure it will look great whatever you decide...!

That's a good idea thank you Zak -
Yes I am available for decorating in Feb Kevin - but what do you wish to be damaged, broken or just plain made into about 10,000 bits - hohoho - even "she who must be obeyed" doesn.t let me decorate.
Title: Re: 1968 Vietnam scene

Windows cut out of the wallpaper and some flooring added to the upper floor.

A start made on some corrugated iron to go outside the building - holes drilled and then some work with the drill and a file to make it look old and distressed  ( just like me - hohoho )
Title: Re: 1968 Vietnam scene
Post by: MSea on January 05, 2020, 01:25:25 PM
Problem - the acrylic is 0.5mm size and it will not go through the machine to make the corrugations. So another made from 0.3mm acrylic and this seems to work - will see what it looks like when painted.
This machine is another Christmas pressy from a couple of years ago for "she who must be obeyed" and is not now used, so has been acquired for my modelling - hohoho

Sorry Kevin you will have to wait a bit longer.
First job was to drill out and make some ladders, next job was to add some flagstones outside the building and also dig out the foindations for the wall.

Table finished and painted red - then "she who must be obeyed" thought it would look better in gloss black.
If she is happy then so am I -- and its only a table in the back of the house, that I expect 90% of our members will not even see.

You can do it Chris - seen lots of Vietnam dioramas with Helicopters. Remember one with it landing on one of the river gunboats and several with them crashed into a paddy field.

I've just caught up with this thread and yet again am impressed with how the scenarios you come up with. Being innocent I thought the figure was leaning back to check the wallpaper.
Oh and if we meet up again this year you can call me Meyer!!!

No it got packed away when I was going to have new flooring and furniture for my model room - so lots of things got put in boxes in the garage so they didn't get damaged.
Strange that you mentioned it, as I was putting down underlay in the garage over the last 2 days and saw this model (well the box at least) and thought must finish this one soon - so you never know .

I like Platoon.  It comes very close to getting the platoon politics just about right.
Would like to hear your Vietnam stories in person one day.

Yes I thought so too. Some good scenes in it though.
Both Platoon and Full Metal Jacket were good. Hamburger Hill was a bit different.
When We Were Soldiers Once and Young was also a good film. The book was very good.

My room is on hold at the moment as IKEA has not got the furniture i need.  So when I was sorting out some trays of part finished figures decided to get the model out of the garage and get on with it. Next job work on the jeep, driver and gunner - then the other figures in the jeep.

Cracking is the correct word Bob - just for a change it was not me damaging my models - "she who must be obeyed" was putting some stuff away in my room and knocked the whole model onto the floor.
Machine gun smashed off the jeep, drivers seat out and also the wheels and springs under the jeep damaged - ohh well its only the thing I would do, so its out with the fixing glue and put it all together again.
