Title: Fred Flintstones B29 bomber
Post by: MSea on July 10, 2019, 10:22:06 PM
Its all Neil's fault again.  Just been given this box of part made bits with lots of parts missing -- and the comment of YOU are weird so you will do something strange with this lot.
So its now going to be converted into a stone age plane with several odd things on it such as movable weights on each wing to make the plane turn and catapults for armament and any other strange things that come out of my head, so be warned.
Now have can I get a Fred Flintstone in 1/48 scale to fly the plane ????????

Did you hear the naughty nautical language,  tried to coax the 2 half's of the body back together and then that lovely sound "CRACK" as she broke on the starboard side aft of the gun turret. At least it will all be covered with cardboard strips and tissue paper in the end, so no permanent damage done.
When it is solid will "hack" out the pilots and the gunners areas, and replace with open seating.

Decided to start at the other end - tail plane cut off and will be replaced on a pivot so it can be rope operated from inside the aft end of the plane. Next some sanding -big scale - to remove bits not wanted on the body of the plane.

Bomb bay doors fitted after a fashion and a smigin of household filler added. When dry will sand down the body and fill again.

Hi Msea,

Now for the 'NORMAL' modeller this looks like a really weird project, but for you...….
This will raise a few eyebrows and a laugh no doubt.
Now, I just want to know when the model is finished, will you bring it along wearing a Fred Flintstone outfit complete with inflated club....?

Trial run for the card frames -- decided that if it was stuck down with PVA you had to keep going back to press the card down onto the plastic. So stuck with a couple of small dobs of "tacky wax" and then some PVA run along the edges, seems to work OK.

Lots of small sections of tissue fastened to the wing and when dry will try to paint them all different colours to represent animal skins fastened together.

It just got worse -- its now in glorious technicolor, just the stitching marks to add when it is dry.

Wheel wells opened out with the side sections removed. The wheel supports now made in mahogany and the wheels from a section of broom handle. First thought was to make the wheels in hard sponge rubber but then realized, with the weight of the plane it would just squash them, so wood  and some paste to make them look like stone.

Tail plane now operates on pivot - some cleaning up to do and operation ropes to fit when the skins are added to the surface.

The plastic modern props removed from the hub and wood ones made. Small holes drilled in one end for the brass connecting rods and the other end rounded.
Each of the 4 engines are 100 HP - before Haddock tells me that no internal combustion engines in the stone age - they are 100 hamster power - each engine has 100 hamsters working like heck in hamster wheels fastened to the props

Props finished just a little cleaning up to do and some colour on the prop hub.

Most of the frames added to the port wing top.

Finished the frames on the port wing and tissue paper added.
When dry will get this painted to look like skins, might add some green for dinosaur skins on this one, now what colour are they, will have to ask Neil he was around when they roamed the earth so he should know - hohoho

Hi Msea,
Looking very prehistoric, I know that will be like no other B-29 like it.
Question is did they call it a B-29, I understand Neanderthal man , made sounds more like grunts than speech, (and No, I wasn't around at the time) could it be a Urrgh-po-whee yaar.
Or is that 'Klingon'

How about Bfornine - as it was the first and before the others?

Its good to get back to just modelling and general insults - instead of sorting out problems.
Just remembered I have to put the weight and running bar on top of the wing before painting it.

The wing now looks like the inside of my head.

Now Zak will say both the inside of my head and the photo is empty - its not just forgot to add the photo -- think its time for a coffffeeeeee

Should be out by now but still waiting for somebody to get ready - so bit more colour on the bottom of the plane.
Talking to Haddock this morning he threatened me with WORSE than a Chinese Burn if I did a stone age battleship - so how about USS Fort Drum the American rock in the mouth of Manila Bay that they converted with concrete into a battleship - thinking about it I will still get worse than a Chinese Burn so will put that one on hold for a week or two - hohoho

At last the recycled Zulu soldiers have found the correct area to be in !!!!
They have also brought a friend, who is now in 3 sections and had big lumps cut out of arms and legs to help bending into the new correct position.

3 sections now fastened together -- from a running figure now he can be sat down, when a bit more is removed from his back end and the left arm bent in to operate the plane controls

Another poor Zulu soldier converted ( or as Zak would say mutilated ) -- both arms and his right leg changed so he can now stand on the wing and move the rock to control the planes direction. Next job to dress him in skins and fur.

Hi Msea,
Would you like me to adorn the bright yellow all in one job, just like 'Anneka Rice' for the event..?
Note, I now need a much larger, more generous size to accommodate my power pack (read Tummy)
