Found this model very cheap and could not resist starting it.
Have seen a picture of Warspite just ashore and then nearly fully stripped down in Prussia Cove , Cornwall 1947 - decided it would make a good model part stripped down - (sorry Haddock its another wreck.)
The funnel has been made with some outer plates removed and showing girders.

Still finishing other models so this will be a slow make.

You don't say whose the donor kit is, not that it matters. I suppose when you've finished with the angle grinder and your teeth, there won't be much left of it.

You are correct again Haddock, the teeth are going to work on the old Airfix 1/600 scale model of HMS Warspite.

The search light platforms added to funnel now for the raillings.Some inner detail in the aft accomodation - some thinning to do on the bulkheads and it should look the part.

The main acomodation under way and the hull and deck fastened.
The ship is over at an angle - down by the bow and leaning over towards the port side -- so out with the grinder/saw/teeth and some of the hull removed.

I can admit to cutting my waterline to match that easily, however it would not be by choice only poor workmanship.
Yours is perfection young man, have a house point!

I know I said it would be a slow make, but its not been a good day today so have spent it modelling,
Turret "B" and "C" have gun tubs with the guns removed so have drilled them out and replaced with brass tube. The crane has also been hollowed out and some railings added.

The gun tubs have now had floors fitted. Rocks made from plaster of paris and added to the base and first coat of dark grey on.

Its easy to be fast Haddock when you are just hacking bits off the ship and not being very careful about it -- instead of fastening bits in the correct place.
The rocks have a bit of shading on them and a second coat of paint to the sea as a base.

Well back again - holidays and illness take up more time than looking for bits the "carpet monster" has eaten.
Removed pipes from the engineroom, made to pile up on deck and be in some of the lighters taking them ashore. As they are large size I will paint them dark green for the ships main sea water cooling pipes.

Glad your feeling a bit better. 'Warspite' looked nice even in its distressed state at the meeting on Wednesday.

Decided not to put brass rails on the tug -- they look the wrong size. So cut a bit of brass shim and will use this instead.

Decided the small scale ships and lighters needed more so have started to make a couple of ocean going tugs to vary the size of the ships around HMS Warspite.
I was just thinking again -- I must stop doing this -- but if a warship has been paid off and is on the way to the breakers is she still a HMS , or does that go when she is paid off ??????????????

HMS Warspite taped up ready for camouflage paint. Crane now has opperating wires fitted and the ocean going tug is well under way.

The main cranes fitted and started on the small deck cranes to put things into the lighters and also to remove the propeller.

Cut plate made to make the deck look busy. Cranes are now fitted and in operation.

It's all coming together now. all those bits and pieces, the tugs, the deck cranes all are beginning to tell the tale.

More work on the small ships around HMS Warspite. Its amazing how you can look at something and miss problems but then you see the photo and it jumps out at you -- look at the bridge just behind the yellow funnel !!!!

Back to my first love - ships - before you lot drop me in it with "she who must be obayed".
Small boats and lighters fitted in place, the next job is add more acrylic paste so that they are in the water not floating above it.

More paste added and some white caps. The first photo shows half the paste added along the ships side to make it part of the water not floating above it.

Some bits and bobs into the lighters and the propellers loaded into the small boat.

A coat of Gloss Gel added to the sea and left to dry - but the section between the ship and the rocks was too thick and has cracked as it dried - a bit of touching up is now needed.
