Title: Fujimi RH-53D Sea Stallion
Post by: chriswil42 on October 09, 2020, 04:02:44 PM
This model when it came out in the mid 1970s cost £12.  I was at college at the time when a  week's lodgings was £10, so I didn't buy it. Luckily back in 2009 I was able to buy it second hand at a show for £12; didn't think twice.
Anyway now about to begin building it. The parts are all very clean so should be a joy to build.

My lodgings - in London, were £6.00 per week, full board as well, cooked breakfast and superb evening meal.
That was the very early 1970's though.
You could get 4 gallons of petrol for £1.00. I had a minivan and could get From London - Bath for a couple of quid.
Too much , time to do some more modelling.

As we're reminising, my first wage in the 70s was £8. After stoppages and tax I took £5 home, £1 board, £1 savings and drunk all weekend on the rest. Which explains a lot now!!!
This is going to be a beast of a machine when completed, looking forward to seeing it completed.

Couldn’t tell you what my first wage was, but it was NAAFI in Germany, anyway always fancied these helicopters from  Fujimi, looking forward to this build.

Main fuselage halves with the windows in. The mouldings are very good - almost a shame to build and paint them.

Cockpit assembly completed. There are a pair of figures for pilots but they are a tight fit so I may leave them out.
There were some gaps apparent when the engine nacelles were assembled which needed filling.

Main fuselage assembled. Main wheel sponsons assembled.
Rotor hub fits well together with pretty good detail.

Build complete. Mouldings good with a small amount of flash. Some filling required on the top and bottom fuselage joins and engine nacelles. Now to get ready for painting. It went together pretty well.

Finished. A good kit; fit in some places were not perfect but it's quite an old kit.
Finished using Mr Hobby paints.
